  1. i think the preamp was a little hard to tame, what's informally known as being "hot", although this might be subjective. The ones with the large "SUB" logo are the ones in question. The newer models with the Sterling and Stingray decals have an 'improved" preamp
  2. @uk_lefty If you are after a Jaco style thing, I know Vintage do one that's highly thought of, although I expect you're probably already aware of it
  3. I never knew this was a thing? Do they do this with other basses do you know?
  4. This. For a few hundred quid she gets a fantastic sound from hers
  5. Every time I see that Orange Yamaha it's like a kick in the teeth for talking myself out of springing for a lefty BB414 when they were around. Stupidly I got it into my head they were a bit too "80s" looking. Rare as hen's teeth now and not heard a bad word about them. Gutted is not the word.
  6. That's a pity. I'm hellbent on getting my first stingray but can't afford a proper one. I read the preamp issues of the previous models had been sorted so I assumed that the new range would be an improvement
  7. Same here. I'd be terrified of wrecking it.
  8. I'd be afraid to take it out of the case!!
  9. If you want the classic Hofner thump you need flatwounds. Pyramid do a Hofner specific set which nail it. It does say short scale on the packaging but they will fit on the Hofner no problem
  10. Oof! That's quite steep isn't it
  11. The actors in "Control" apparently had to learn to play instruments for the film... I thought they didn't do a bad job myself
  12. I have the same configuration in my Jake 4 but they are the stock Maruszczyk set. I need to tinker with the P pickup I think as it's a bit quieter when compared to the bridge stacked J which is really forward. Was just curious to know whether you had the same pickups as me 👍
  13. What pickups do you have in your Jake?
  14. I don't know if he'd sell them direct, but the "stock" Maruszczyk JJ pickup is a monster!
  15. So it turns out the cheaper of the two is the older model with the large SUB logo and more unwieldy preamp (supposedly - I've never played one!) Be easier to just include a stock photo of the previous model - save a daft old sod like me from getting confused! Now where did I leave my slippers.....?
  16. Ahh I see that now, it's got the selector switch on it. Weird
  17. Anybody out there know what the differences are between these two? The descriptions seem identical. I think there used to be a 22 fret version but they're both 21 fret. My little pea brain can't see what it is! https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/170208307497008--music-man-sterling-ray4-black-lh-mn https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/190610344764008--music-man-sterling-sub-series-ray4-left-handed-black
  18. There's an ex-demo one of these just appeared on Ebay... its got keen interest but the current bid is at £102. Crazy money!!
  19. Its one of the reasons I moved mine on. Absolutely loved the sound and the tonal options but my God my hands hated that neck. It was like a log with strings on
  20. Wow. That is appalling.
  21. Fender have never made what I have: Left handed P Bass Chambered body 32" scale Blocked and bound Jazz width neck A colour other than sunburst Put all those things together, it just doesn't exist left handed. You're lucky you could get 2 of those options on any left handed Fender made anywhere in the world including Japan. I've looked!
