I don’t think you’re being greedy at all, if it’s something you enjoy doing then why not get what you want.   For years I couldn’t afford nice basses and now I can so I buy buy buy 🙂

I could definitely get on board with that mindset!

If you really want to be talked out of getting another bass, then spend some time on this thread:

However, if you actually don't want to be persuaded to make do and mend, this is the thread for you 😉

I've been on the second thread a few times the last couple of days... I think that tells its own story!

  3. Well that's how I've been feeling about it to be honest. I know that I want to give one a go and being a big fan of Bernard Edwards I'll definitely enjoy playing it!

I love the black/black/maple combo and honestly don't know why I've not tried one before now.

Plus if I ever rejoined an indie covers band it would fit the sound and look. Win win!

  4. So here's the state of play...

I'm a strictly "at home" player since I left my covers band  and the kids came along.

My lefty herd was thinned down to the bare bones, but since the start of the year it's grown a bit!

    1. Maruszczyk Jake P/JJ 32"

    2. Hofner Ignition w/ flats

    3. Harley Benton B550

I'd always thought the first 2 would cover me in any scenario. I got the 5er to expand my playing as it's my first but I'd never be in a band where it would get much use.

I've never had a Stingray but I really really want one. There are lefty SUB 4s kicking around for not too much

Am I just being greedy having a load of instruments sat around only getting minimal play or should I scratch that itch???

    Got a SUB last night😁

Couldn't justify paying 200 quid more for 24 CA when it's my first MM.

    Love the black/maple flea vibes.

I'll let you guys know how I get on.

I really want one but if a courier knocks on the door with another bass sized package, Mrs Rasher will highly likely batter me with it 🙈

Please let us know how you find it!

If you're ever around Hertfordshire/ the bits of Essex I often play in you're more than welcome to have a go on my US Stingray. Best neck I've ever played, the fingerboard as well just makes life easy and THAT pickup just wallops out big big bass. Perfect for covers band gigging. In the shop I actually preferred the sound of the significantly cheaper US Jazz but just felt the overall kick of the Ray was better as a working option.

Cheers that's really kind of you. I have some family in Hemel so if I'm ever in the area I'll give you a shout 👍

I bought 2 jazz basses last year (including that Blonde one) and whilst I love the necks and the way the basses look, I have come to the conclusion they are just not for me. I can't quite explain why.

I had a Stingray for a while and it was my number 1 until I got my Spector.

I still would like a decent P-bass at some point.

I've yet to try a stingray... I suspect it will be one of the SUB range before long. Tempted by the 5 string 🤔

  8. Yeah maybe it's the familiarity.

Whilst learning I had a Squier P Special, so it's the combo of P sound and J neck which feels "right" to me. Unfortunately it's not a combination all that common in the lefty world.

I toyed with the idea of buying a P and J and switching the necks until I baulked at the outlay it'd need

Hardly played bass for the past 4 months so thought about time I made the effort. Took scratch plate off my short scale Elwood for a change. Bit of a clean up. Considering some new strings!

Looks great! How do you find the B string on the 30" scale?

  10. It's sad to read this and I feel as though this is becoming a major PR own-goal for Adrian.

With the quality of so-called budget basses as they are these days, this kind of poor QC at the Maruszczyk end coupled with the frankly bizarre response from the company is unacceptable.

If I was about to put a deposit down right now for a bass I'd be saving for something else. I guess I got lucky with mine.

I have a bit of a thing for 70s and 80s style basses and Japanese made. Shame I had to move on an MIJ bass to get it but it was the most sensible thing to do!

I do love the look of a 70s Fender, they're definitely my favourite era looks-wise.

I can't remember the exact model, but I'd love a lefty version of the bass Duff McKagan plays. Dunno if they were ever made, but I'd imagine they were rare as hen's teeth if so

    Just got a Boss LMB-3

Quite different to the compressors I’m used to using. Does something very nice to the sound though.

I fear a new addiction is beginning.

What other good limiter pedals are there?

Same here, mine arrived Saturday morning.

Despite reading a few "sent it back, it does nothing" threads on other forums I picked one up from the classifieds here.

Really pleased with it, does a good job and can't find any fault with it. Despite only using it at home I'd have no hesitation in using it live.

I know it's fairly functional compared to most other compressors but I think it gets unfairly knocked. Probably because it says "BOSS" on it!

  13. Just completed a transaction for a boss LMB3 with Simon.

Communicative, purchase was a doddle and item was here in a fraction over 24hrs.

Would buy/sell from Simon again without hesitation.
