1. Whats the reason for the single cut bass? Does it add to the tone, playability, stabilty or is it just aesthetics?

Acoustic basses

Its been interesting reading so thanks for all the posts. I'll have a look round and see what grabs me. Couple of q's Is there anything I should look out for as being problematic on Electro/Acoustic basses? What sort of action can I expect to get compared to a solid wood bass?

Acoustic basses

as it would only be for home use (probably) is there anything reasonable for less than £1000?
4. Been thinking about getting an acoustic bass (not an upright). What would you recommend? Any decent 5 string acoustics out there? Cheers Wazz
5.
So a typical 4 piece rock covers band makes £300-£400 for a gig in a random bar? Where is this random bar? I want to play there, cos I don't see any bar bands earning that money anywhere in the south east!!
The O'Neills chain pay £300 for a gig
6. I got fender jazz V american deluxe and I think its superb. great sound, playability and build quality. It sounds like a jazz should because it is a jazz. If you want a jazz is it the sound you want or the shape?
7. The venue is Newport sports center with 700 - 1000 strong audience. Either a full PA and light rig or about 3k of active speakers to suppliment our own 1.9k mackie speakers.
8. thanks for the info. I have emailed them for a quote. cheers w
9. I am being asked to quote for a gig in Newport, South Wales. Does anyone know of a PA and lighting Hire company in South Wales they can recommend? Cheers Wazz
10.
"Give us a go on dem drums mate" - Gets right up our drummers nose!!!
This one always comes from the wealthy, posh audiences at weddings who dont seem to think the rules apply to them when drunk. I alway respond with "we are not insured for you to perform or be onstage" should anyone ask to play. Kind of works
11. To quote G-bitch from the stolen thread..."Also, forget Musicguard - they're a friggin' rip off and you'll only get shafted on the small print after they tell you over the phone that everythings fine" appreciate more details on this G-bitch.
12.
My girlfriend has a policy with Endsleigh for her sax and wireless microphone setup. We recently added my basses to the policy and it was no bother, I didn't get any questions asked about my custom build either. Best to go into a branch though, they are utter rubbish on the phone. Rubbish as in "she'll be a minute" == "hang up the phone"
Does it include 'in locked unattended vehicle' cover?
13. I've been meaning to take out a full musical gear insurance policy for ages and a comment in another thread reminded me again. What are your experiences of insurance companies and policies Cheers Wazz
14. the bass not the carpet!
15. looks cool
16. or maybe they all just stopped in their tracks on noticing a horrendous c*ckup, highlighted by a grimace.
17. It does look like a meeting of the 'statues' club rather than a dancing audience.
18.
Ah sounds like you need some TSGs (Totty Sensitive Glasses) They go totally black when there's a distraction on the dancefloor during gigs.
And where can I get such lifesaving specs? Of course its worse when said totty is the bride then again, it could be the brides mother.
19. I dont mind the mistakes cos thats live music. Its when my concentration/attention goes elsewhere (on the dancefloor) and I forget what section of what song that I get slightly humbled! Not good when you are supposed to be the MD! Must try harder next time...
20. Hit&Run, I have emailed you a simplified tab of cuddly toy. I hope it makes sense to you and points you in the right direction. wazz

Stingray GAS!
Been there and done that - great stuff wazz - very professional.
Nice of you to say so. I think to my ears the east has less low bottom end than the ray preamp but it has plenty of bottom end at the right frequencies. It seems to tighten up the sound a lot. I'm yet to hear it with new strings on which I imagine would bring out the mids a lot too. What I liked was that John supplied me with a complete unit to drop in so I could put the Ray preamp back in if I wanted to with minimum soldering and no drilling.

Stingray GAS!
Oy wazz - I've been thinking about dropping one of John's preamps into my Ray - especially as it only costs £125 with the mid-sweep. D'ya reckon it's worth doing? How does it sound?
Sounds good. If you want to hear it listen to bad girls or boogie oogie oogie at www.beatparty.co.uk. They are recorded with the east fitted ray.

Stingray GAS!
Fancy selling?
Wil, I happily got divorced but I could never part with "the wife". I get bad looks from the guitar rack everytime I go out to gig with the mistress now!

Stingray GAS!

I have a 2 band black 87 Ray with a maple fretboard. I wanted the mid pot so I changed the electronics for a J-retro unit supplied as a direct replacement. Sounds cool and looks great. After playing it for 16 years or so I find it too heavy now for 2 hours of gigging on a regular basis. Its semi retired now in favour of the Fender Jazz V
25. I'd throw norman watt roy into the mix. He is definately enthusiastic about what he plays
