It’s very hard to describe, but I think/feel the difference is kinda like this:-
a valve amp is still “active” even no nothing is actually playing through it. It’s charged, all ready moving, just waiting for a signal to work upon, and when a signal is passed through it works upon it in a positive/negative wave, replicating the motion of the strings etc.
class d feels like it only reacts to the positive “push” of the strings, making it feel like half the dynamics and depth feel missing somehow.
it measures perceptibly as just as loud, but kind feels half there..what do u guys think?

Quite simply, I believe that class d is good for reinforcing tone (p.a application), but not for creating your tone in the first place.
Its all in the response and feel which creates the tone initially, ( valves etc) then hoofing it through a big PA system which will highly likely be class d, and simply making your tone louder with minimal colouration -
Dear God that's fit!!!!

I'm the exact opposite. love svts, but really cannot get on with the permenant distortion present in an ampeg svt 8x10 (the speaker baskets are stamped not cast meaning they are not stiff, so actually bend a little, but give you "that" sound.)
I do love an Ampeg fridge for rock/blues, but for high volume clean stuff, its a no from me

i've really enjoyed reading the comments here so far, to clarify, i prefer the weight not for tone, but i move, a lot.
i also use the weight of the bass/neck for string bends/neck bends and slides etc, so a 70's p or j works well.
one of these new fangled hollow basses might pop a nut!!!!

I get calluses on the regular. Particularly on the right hand. Could sand bricks smooth with them!

Is that the 6 ohm 6x10?

running an amp with another manufacturers speaker is fine, as long as you consider wattage/impedence factors carefully... the electricity does not care... your ears do..

Let's do that;)

I’ve played through most heads, of all classes, and own various ss, d and valve amps. For me, dynamic feel and a response making me feel attached is worth more than tone when playing. It gives better expression, ability to ride bends and sustain, and makes me feel more connected. Good Tone comes from this
