Welcome to Basschat, though shame it's not in more cheerful circumstances. Really sorry to hear about the flood, and hopefully the insurance will cover the damage. The WD in WD40 actually stands for Water Displacement, so using it to drive off moisture and prevent rust is perfectly fine. I've not used it on electronics, but I would. Others with more experience will be along to advise about other gear, or you can repost in Repairs and Technical, where you'll definitely get help. Fingers crossed 🤞.

Likewise. I can't stand Metallica, but at least I got to the end of that and now appreciate there is a song underneath the original racket 🙂. The vocalist was very close to Sinatra, and that's a good thing. Very smooth but with just a hint of menace in the delivery, no more than Frank would have though. The solo guitar in the middle felt out of place - presumably in the original there is a shreddy guitar section which he was copying? Better to have left it out and just served the vocal.

Still want to be involved??? 🙃

"It's a cold night in Berlin". "The Ox las left the room, but his jacket is still here". "Leo got it right first time" <Silence, then the sound of a muffled pistol shot and a body being wedged into a double bass case> "Wrong answer my unfortunate friend"

Welcome aboard

Your just shorting the jack lead, so there is no signal at all to the amp and therefore no chance of stray pickup. Its an input short, not an output. You can buy jacks that do this when the lead is unplugged- the FOH engineers' friend. https://www.neutrik.com/en/neutrik/products/plugs-jacks/plugs/professional-1-4-plugs/silentplug

Just found this: Push-Pull Pots - How They Work, Wiring Mods, and More! (fralinpickups.com) So actually it would be dead easy to both cut the battery +ve feed and short the jack terminals when the pot was pulled out. But as @John Cribbin says - most people would be happy to just leave the lead on the floor 🙂

That S1 is clever - putting that in the list of "things to think about when I build a bass". If I was modifying mine then a push-pull might be the simplest.

On an active bass it's normal to have the active electronics switched on by inserting the jack plug of the lead. Simple cheap and reliable. However it would certainly be more convenient for me for the practice setup if I could leave the lead plugged in and switch the electronics off at the bass, ideally by turning the volume down to zero then click to off. Or have pull-to-off perhaps. Either way it's tidier and quicker to start noodling. I wonder if the switch would need to not only disconnect the active electronics and but also short the jack lead so it didn't act like an aerial, which might get a bit complicated. Any thoughts on whether this is a sensible idea? I assume it's not trivial otherwise some manufacturers would do it.

Welcome aboard! There are a fair few friends from the continent here, Germany and the Netherlands seem well represented.

..... !!!! Words fail me.

Not if you keep eating cake :-) Dave's hoping to come too, but don't let that put you off.

I agree with your comment earlier that it may be weather dependent. It's very clammy here at the moment. Thanks for organising this.👍

Arrived yesterday Seem a little sticky on the paper, but nothing a wash and talc won't resolve. 😉

Come on, you know you want to. There's cake too, remember...

Or one old-skool bass rig. Tie the gazebo to that and the pub will blow away before the band: (image from talkbass.com)

Those "pop up" gazebos are way better than the old style with poles and connectors. Mine's not properly waterproof, but it is now 14 years old. Cool number plate BTW 😎

Welcome aboard! So are you now badass, having completed the course?

Happy to have a DE Bass Bash. However being stopped at customs with multiple guitars and amps and the like may be interesting. A friend if mine was returning to his house in France, where he has residency, and the Douanne were being deliberately obstructive and asking the price of everything he had on him and whether he was importing it or taking it home. They even said they were being picky "because You voted for Brexit!" I would of course expect the Germans to be more civilised than the French, but nevertheless...

I admit it, running the fretboard all the way was a good choice. And curved against the oval pickup looks superb. 👍

Meant to add: playing through an audio interface and headphones is how I played for nearly a year. You hear every single finger squeek and buzz, and it gets a bit dispiriting, so you'll try really hard to get a good technique that eliminates them. Then you buy an amp and it sounds so much better, but the time spent with headphones was worth it 😉

Kid gets a bass at school as his "instrument to learn". Comes home on Monday and Dad says "What did you learn?". Kid replies "I learned about the E string". Comes home on Tuesday and Dad says "What did you learn?". Kid replies "I learned about the A string". Comes home on Wednesday and Dad says "What did you learn?". Kid replies "I learned about the D string". Comes home on Thursday, and Dad has been on Google and so asks "Did you learn about the G string today?" Kid replies "Nope, but I've got a gig tomorrow night"

That's very nice - like the subtle binding. 3mm is fine, much lower and as a beginner you make lots of clanks. Actually I still make lots of clanks after two years, but I don't care. I just play fewer notes and try to look cool 😎
