  1. Welcome back! 🥳 Definitely 5 strings is the way to go - and if it isn't then you can carry on making a groovy racket with 4. Who cares as long as you're having fun?🤘
  2. Made me smile too, but it ends too early; we need to hear the band kick in!
  3. Welcome aboard! That would be an exciting souvenir! Maybe post a question on the General Discussion forum saying where in the UK you will be and asking what the best shops near there are? Good luck, and enjoy the holiday in the UK. Apologies in advance for the weather. It will probably rain.
  4. Welcome aboard! I can never read the name Pennsylvania without mentally adding a shout of "6-5000" at then end of it. I'm way too young to have that stuck in my head! What do you play? I'm guessing Stingray?
  5. I have just found this excellent short podcast series on BBC Sounds: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0hr4zmc It's called "Song Exploder", where different musicians take apart one of their best known songs. I'd never heard of most of them, but they're all good. "Go your own way" was interesting - when the rhythm section don't really want to play what the composer wanted. 😛
  6. I think that @binky_bass's point was more that there is probably an assumption that blokes playing punk are a bit thick, plus the word punk being derived from a term for loser anyway, but there are plenty of counter examples. Which I think has been admirably demonstrated. 🤘🎶
  7. That is a most excellent justification.
  8. @Dom444 You beat me to it! Just a tip though, as I can see you're new to the site. Best practice is to post to say you're interested, as you have, and to send the seller a private message as well. Then the seller @Steve1967 gets an email saying there is something he needs to look at, and personal information like phone numbers don't need to appear on a public Web site. The private message button is a little envelope, up near your profile pic if you're using a mobile phone site. Welcome aboard by the way.
  9. Really? It must have leached out of my ears pretty soon afterwards then. Actually completing a PhD meant the ability to finish writing the bloody thesis, despite being out of time and money and desperate to do anything than check results from over three years ago or try to get the references straight. Prior to that it was great fun, but a surprising number of friends didn't manage to complete the write up within the time limit and never got to wear a floppy hat. Dr May took 30 years due to some minor distractions.
  10. The neighbours are going to just love you two! 😜 How easy will it be for him to integrate into the village?
  11. The last one, the chocolate brownie. That would be my call on almost any bass (just preference), but I also think it would be most appropriate here. You're getting an original neck by the original luthier (with stamps and provenance) and this is closest to the original, but clearly an upgrade. As @Grooverjr says, it's the one that would work best with a coloured/ stained body too. Your choice of course, and what a nice problem to have. 😃
  12. Midlands Bashes have been on a Saturday, and hopefully will be again. Assuming I, or someone else, organises the 2025 one.
  13. Welcome aboard!! Never to late to start, and excellent brain exercise as well as huge fun. I started in my 50s, wish I had done so years ago.
  14. https://www.bing.com/images/create/a-big-white-mug-of-hot-tea2c-with-a-picture-of-a-ba/1-664a371b1bea4ebaafb3a76a7400dba7?id=7sDQ3Wi%2fvQT8yUbMavcQ6A%3d%3d&view=detailv2&idpp=genimg&idpclose=1&thId=OIG1.FJaGl_rT_oTwtCR6jcZD&frame=sydedg&FORM=SYDBIC&PC=EMMX01 Dall-e 3 is pretty impressive @ossyrocks
  15. Clearly a fabulous bash, and I hope to be at the next one. @Richard R: Brawley 5 string, HB 5 string with Roland Hex pickup and VBass synth, EBS 60 amp.Cake, raffle prizes. 😊
  16. Enjoy the day guys, and post loads of pictures!
  17. Well that would certainly be more glamourous than my choices of badly playing bass and failing to grow onions. What do you do for a living, and how quickly can I retrain?
  18. Eric Clapton, with support from the excellent Andy Fairweatherlow and the Low Riders, tonight. 😎
