  1. Cut the MOP inlays so that they are the same shape but smaller, so you don't remove the ends when you radius the fretboard?
  2. I agree we would be much better with something where we could post a link and have people join, rather than needing to have a specific account in advance. Zoom have improved their client, password required by default and a few things, but they still use sub-standard encryption, route traffic through China for no good reason, and ship data to FB without being upfront about it. Hangouts looks better, need to look further into it. There are a couple of lesser-known options too. For typical consumer offering you have to accept that a "free" service is often paid for with your personal information, and that's acceptable of you know up front and are happy with the trade off. Likewise companies shouldn't claim a service is enterprise grade end-to-end encrypted when it isn't. Zoom rolled their own encryption algorithm so low bandwidth performance was better. A schoolboy error because it was demonstrably rubbish. (I probably come across as wearing a tinfoil hat and sandals when it comes to security. That isn't entirely the case - my sandals broke on holiday last year.) Will set up another test after Easter, then a VBash in May I hope.
  3. Welcome aboard! At this point I would normally point you to the Midlands Bass Bash thread in the Events section and demand that you attend, but it's postponed for now. However if you do pop over and follow the thread you will see that we have had a first test run of a Virtual Bass Bash, and will be testing another platform "real soon now"
  4. Welcome aboard! I like the blue on on the sofa 😁
  5. You might have named them Slimer and Homer, I stick with my choices as I have never yet watched an episode of the Simpsons all the way through.
  6. I've watched these for a while, but not posted. The EVO basses look great, and the bright colours absolutely suit them. I would have named the green and yellow ones Kermit and Beaker if they were mine 🙃 The key question- are there any sound clips?
  7. Seconded. I could not justify buying this, much as I want to, but I love the design thought that has gone into it and the sound it makes. Bump up, and GLWTS!
  8. You mean there are radio stations other than Radio 4??
  9. That is a limitation of both Skype and Teams. To be honest though, I spend half my working day on video conferences, and usually you only look at the current speaker anyway. You just have to assume that people are concentrating and not scratching their bits under the desk.
  10. Thanks Nick. Very comprehensive, if a little complicated for my bands. For lo-fi fun Acapella is a phone app that lets people record independently and the the app stitches them together and produces a video. But you wouldn't release the results commercially. 🤣
  11. Take a look at an app called Acapella. The first band member records the lead part as a video on their phone, then the others play along individually and record their parts in the app. When tbeybare done the app stitches it together, you can apply a bit of basic eq and pan, and then download and share the video. It's not a Trevor Horn mix, but OK for what it is, fun for practicing, and you can keep posting for your followers.
  12. Well that was entertaining. A few technical issues, but the basic principle of meeting over VC is sound, and people seem to want to do it again. Tech Notes: - Teams only lets you see four people on screen. Not a major problem, Skype does the same, but requires a bit of management of the meeting Users should change their name as displayed in their profile settings, otherwise it picks up the first part of their email address. Having a Microsoft account is a prerequisite. Again not a major problem but it wasn't made clear Cameras vary in quality, but all are better than mine. My phone was better than my PC, and actually wasn't a bad experience to join on Audio was OK, and it is possible to DI a bass into the audio. Everyone has to explicitly hang up to end the meeting. Tech Question: Do we want to try this over Skype as an alternative? Other Notes: Only @nickmew had wine, which made the rest of us terribly jealous @jebroad's mini bass is even smaller in real life than it appears in photographs. Tom's african build 2 is going to be fab! Fan frets are clearly in this year I'm happy to organise another one, with an open invitation to all members. In which case I think we would have a more specific agenda. I'm happy to have another test run with Skype if we think more people will readilly have that and therefore the startup time is reduced. (Zoom isn't an option if I'm organising, it's invasive and insecure) Honest comments please:
  13. Yep! Everyone has to explicitly hang up, or the meeting continues. Apparently the feature for the organiser to kill it is due out real soon.
  14. @Andyjr1515 - you still seem to be in the meeting. Can you hang up?
  15. You should just be able to sign in to MS teams with the email you gave me, because you are part of my organisation.
  16. Open and log into Teams, and I'll include you on the meeting
  17. OK all. So if you open teams and join with the account we set up then you'll be in. I will then call everyone using Teams abut 8pm, but if you're not running the app you won't get the call. So, to make a terrible analogy, you have to walk in the door of the hall, and then I'll call us to order on VC. 🙂 @Oldman, I'm not sure what TeamViewer is, is it another name for the Teams App? If so then you should be able to see and post to the "General" chat now
  18. Definitely ON! @Len_derby, you do need a Microsoft account, but you can set one up with any email address. If you use the one you sent all will be good. I will be in from about 7:50 Rich
