Welcome to Basschat. Where thread derailment is prized almost above the ability to play the ruddy instrument!! Lots of useful and helpful folks here, just be ready to switch directon faster than a jazz rock fusion band in show-off mode 🙂
  3. That is just jaw dropping!! Very clever and very stylish with it, the James Bond of basses.
  4. I'm looking forward to seeing pics of the final guitar, and video of you playing it. Not because I don't believe you, but because I do 🙂. And videos of the Bass of Navarone - Great Name!!
  5. So a bass for Mr Tickle 😉
  6. Slow is fine, its 1000% better than "one day I will...", which is where most of us stay at. 🙂 What scale are these? The photos make them look enormous, but you mentioned 40" earlier in the thread.
  7. Hello and welcome aboard. Post the question on then Bass guitars thread and I am sure someone will pop out who knows about Tokai basses. All I know is that they are by reputation rather good 👍
  8. Welcome aboard! Lots of Midlanders here. Are you still restricted as to where you can go, or are you not in that area of Leicester? Stay safe, and Keep away from Basses for Sale 😉
  9. I would prefer to meet friends in my garden rather than the pub. Hope you and yours are all OK.
  10. Belated welcome. "There’s not much point trying to name my favourite bass players because the list would have to include literally everybody who has ever authentically attempted to express something with honesty and integrity through the instrument…" That would include me, and trust me - I am not anybody's favourite bass player! If you're near Bradford, are you in the area with local lockdown?
  11. I have fallen about laughing at this thread, absolutely wonderful. If you want to understand why Basschat is such a great place, imagine the flame wars, foul language and trolling that would erupt if you asked this question on that other forum over in the US... 🙂
  12. Taking a brain break from social media for a week or two. A sort of summer holiday, but without Cliff or the bus.

Good man. Genuine question - is BC part of this? I've had similar offloading of social, feels great - but didn't count BC..

      @Drax

That's the sort of question that might take more than a week or two to answer...

I stopped doing chat rooms way back when BlogTV starting squirting their sponsors' commercials into the conversation.  I was already finding the endless trolling tiresome (so I stopped doing it).  Lessons learnt, I never saw a reason to take up the later forms of real-time social media.  BC is the only place I "socialise" online.

  13. Just ordered one of these, to do double duty as a finger drum pad and a DAW controller. Will report back in the reviews section in a week or two when I have had a proper play.
  14. Done.
  15. Worst case scenario: we cancel at short notice and Mike needs us to collectively stump up the deposit for the hall. Not the end of the world, and much better than the avoidable end of a basschatter.
  16. Rock on! Or funk on, or jazz on depends on the band!
  17. Welcome aboard! I'm sure someone here will help out on learning to play slap, probably best to ask on the technique thread. Bad luck to fracture your foot in lockdown, but if you will go skateboarding down the deserted Devon lanes...
  18. Welcome aboard! And welcome back to the UK. Smiling while practicing, what an excellent idea! I shall have to try it in place of the angsty grimace of frustration that usually accompanies my fluffed notes.
  19. The incredible shrinking bass player!
  20. ...!!!!! Words fail. It must be quite a house you are looking to buy.
  21. It's Keef on guitar! I recognise that hanging fag anywhere!
  22. Well he wouldn't want to risk changing something that might affect the tone!
  23. Welcome aboard 🥳. If you mean that the notes are ringing on longer than you want then yes, it's all about muting. Muting and controlling the length of the note is a very key skill. At least living in N Wales you have plenty of time to practice when the rain sets in 😉 As suggested above, a good tutor is worth finding, but I got a lot of the basics sorted with help from StudyBass. The free path is good and the lessons short and accurate. Here's the section on fundamental technique. https://www.studybass.com/study-guide/studybass-fundamentals-one/basic-bass-technique/ Have fun, don't feel you have to rush it, and settle in for the long haul.
  24. Apparently women do. I don't understand that, or them for that matter.
  25. You're quite right, we missed that cue completely. Anyone would think we were singers 😥
