No... a baking song, for all you Master Bakers out there (worth a listen):

Well that's cheered me up 😁, having just got in from a rehearsal where frankly I was so out of time I would have been kicked out of the reception class end of term performance 🙁

    Hello,

I just got here. What did I miss ? :D

Lots of rubbish talked as if the entire forum were down the pub, lots of really good helpful advice delivered with a side order of sarcasm, plenty of pictures of bass guitars,  and a whole new way to spend time and possibly money.

    Welcome aboard!

  3. I showed this to a couple of mates for a laugh. Which they all duly did, until one of them suggested we get a posse together and each put in for a £50 share., so  we can each use it on occasional gigs. A bit like owning a racehorse, and probably as heavy.

    What have I started??

  4. There's a cats thread?? How does that work? "Weight 4kg, furry neck, fights like buggery if you try to put a strap on it but has a tonal range from purrr to screech?"

Welcome to the forums - but don't get distracted from actually practicing. Like I am at the moment. 😉

I'd say that you zeroe'd the gain whilst using the ipad/tablet control.

Very possibly, but I have no idea 😉

One if the deciding factors on this desk vs the X32 was the ease of transition,  especially for occasional users of which there are many in a church environment.  But of course those of us for whom it's our main job have lots more to play with. I love it already 👍

  6. I love reading this thread, but don't post because I don't gig. However I did spend Friday installing a new sound desk at church, and this morning was its first outing so here, by way of a change, is a gentle  story from the man in black at the back 🙂

Going from an analogue to a digital desk is a bit like 4 string to 5 string I'm told. You can do all the same stuff and more, but you have to change your muscle memory. Apart from turning the gain on the preacher to zero (no idea how, took a while to track down while he used another mic),  the to-be-expected EQ-ing the wrong channel, and grabbing the kick-drum fader instead of the clarinet (twice! d-oh!!) it was OK. The best comment was from one chap who used to mix a lot. "Well it's no worse than you usually sound and I wouldn't have known any difference if I didn't know it was a new desk". I think it was meant as a compliment!

  7. So in summary to the OP's question:

    • Some consider it essential and can already do so.
    • Some consider it desirable and can do so.
    • Some consider it desirable and would like to be able to it. There are probably enough of these for the OP to make money from videos showing how to do it. Or at least having fun making the video
    • Some consider it desirable, but have found it impossible. There may be medical reasons for this.
    • Some consider it unnecessary and/or really don't want to do it, but wouldn't stop anyone else doing it
    • The DUP don't think anyone should ever do it.

    What was the question again?

..you youngsters probably have it all stored in a digital desk now....

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 On Saturday I drove to Luton from the Midlands with the rest of our sound crew. The youngest was 40 last week, the rest are over 50 and one insisted we stop on the way for a comfort break. We were going to look at a digital desk mind.

I scribble all over the order of service, but it's not exactly standardised.

The main challenge for ANY song is not how to play it, it's  agreeing how to end it!

My main band job is actually FOH sound engineer. Mute buttons or faders down will end any song, no problem.

I have yet to see any form of standard notation for FOH. "Piano up a bit in this section", "Nice bass riff in two bars time, duck the keyboards " That sort of thing.

Do you need us to come up there and sort it ahhhhhtttt?

I suggested a 28 piece bass orchestra to accompany the wedding.

We could use my church halls in Shirley,  Solihull, but while there is lots of space and  it's not easy for a lot of people loading in and out at the same time, and the best parking for over 3 hours is a short walk away.

Bass clef is still a mystery to me ( I can never remember the stave).

    "Good Bassists Do F*** All"

This works for me. But as my bass teacher said when he had stopped laughing,  it may not be suitable to tell an eleven year old girl whose mother is paying for the lessons.

Definitely a good idea to have such a course.

  12. Well get on with it man! I can't make the SE bash next weekend and this event is the only light on an otherwise bleak and inhospitable horizon.

Though that is the bank holiday weekend,  so a week either side would be better. 😉
