  1. Hi there. Love North Wales, but live in the Midlands. There are a few folks from North Wales on this forum, but I'll let them introduce themselves.
  2. So in summary to the OP's question: Some consider it essential and can already do so. Some consider it desirable and can do so. Some consider it desirable and would like to be able to it. There are probably enough of these for the OP to make money from videos showing how to do it. Or at least having fun making the video Some consider it desirable, but have found it impossible. There may be medical reasons for this. Some consider it unnecessary and/or really don't want to do it, but wouldn't stop anyone else doing it The DUP don't think anyone should ever do it. What was the question again?
  3. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 On Saturday I drove to Luton from the Midlands with the rest of our sound crew. The youngest was 40 last week, the rest are over 50 and one insisted we stop on the way for a comfort break. We were going to look at a digital desk mind. I scribble all over the order of service, but it's not exactly standardised.
  4. My main band job is actually FOH sound engineer. Mute buttons or faders down will end any song, no problem. I have yet to see any form of standard notation for FOH. "Piano up a bit in this section", "Nice bass riff in two bars time, duck the keyboards " That sort of thing.
  5. I suggested a 28 piece bass orchestra to accompany the wedding. We could use my church halls in Shirley, Solihull, but while there is lots of space and it's not easy for a lot of people loading in and out at the same time, and the best parking for over 3 hours is a short walk away.
  6. "Good Bassists Do F*** All" This works for me. But as my bass teacher said when he had stopped laughing, it may not be suitable to tell an eleven year old girl whose mother is paying for the lessons. Definitely a good idea to have such a course.
  7. Well get on with it man! I can't make the SE bash next weekend and this event is the only light on an otherwise bleak and inhospitable horizon. Though that is the bank holiday weekend, so a week either side would be better. 😉
  8. Welcome aboard. First date in your diary, next year's Midlands Bass Bash! Talk rubbish, play basses, eat cake, and be amazed at what some people can build.
  9. Welcome aboard. Beware the marketplace here.... 😉
  10. I'd forgotten those! I had a 4" and a 10", but the 10" got so stiff it was unusable so I only have the 4" now. Last used on the canal towpath in Brum. * adjustable spanners.
  11. Helloooo! So now you can regail us with bass player jokes in retaliation for all the drummer jokes on this forum. 😉 Lots of helpful people here, just don't ask me as I've not been playing long and have no idea what I am doing.
  12. Welcome to the forums. Lovely basses those. I went a while back with a friend who was intending to buy an Ibanez 400 series during lunchtime at work but "accidentally" picked up a 1400 identical to yours. I practically had to prise it out of his fingers as were were getting very late and then his hand went straight to his credit card! To be fair though, he hasn't stopped grinning since. 😁
  13. Lots of church bassist here, but Basschat is an even broader church. Welcome aboard 👍
  14. I saw this, thought they were jump leads and wondered where the -ve connection was going. It's been a long week...
  15. I'm in Solihull, I'll keep an ear out.
  16. I can't get to any of these, but coming across this post has reminded me to sign up for your mailing list! 👍
  17. Whatever you get, these are how to keep them bright: https://uk.farnell.com/techspray/1610-50pk/wipe-isopropyl-alcohol-ipa-pack/dp/2501334 Really clean strings, squeaky clean if you wanted. Easier than the meths in a tube approach as you can just clean the strings in situ, and easier to leave in a gig bag than lighter fluid. Slip a piece of plastic under the strings to protect the fretboard if you want to.
  18. Provided said fridge contains shami kebab diablo, beer milkshake and lager, I don't have a problem with that. Now run down to G deck Kryten, we're out of poppadums.
  19. I idly googled spokeshaves. I know judging a tool supplier by their name is like judging a book by it's cover, but surely few people will buy Mingz tools. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B078LDXG7P/ref=sspa_mw_detail_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1 But I guess if the blade is sharp and holds position that's what matters?
  20. It was my son's wedding on Saturday. Fantastic day, and the band at the reception were cracking and had almost everyone on the dancefloor. They played Proud Mary, and as you said, everyone seemed to go mad for it. It's a perfectly good CCR song, if you like CCR, but playing it at 900 bpm as a hardcore dance track just wrecks it. Bemused of Solihull
  21. Don’t Fear the Reaper? God, I LOVE that song! Lots of people do, and I understand why, it just annoys me. I quite like Walk of Life, which seems to be a minority opinion too. But then I haven't heard many cover versions 😁
