The fusion do look very good, but they're double the current price of the defender. Maybe we should have a "gig bag comparison corner" at the Midlands Bass Bash. @jebroad? 😁

Music created by Artificial Insemination?? That's a load of bull.

What are you listening to right now?
Richard R replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
I think this thread may be derailed, and I (mercifully) have little understanding and no experience of what I think @dave moffat might be referring to.🙂 So as it's my fault we're here, I shall bring the thread back on topic: Backbone, Status Quo's current album. Which is actually a LOT better than you expect it to be. -

That'll be flatworms and roundworms. Apparently, in the fishing community, "Diggin' for bait" actually means what it says, and isn't automatically assumed to be a sexual innuendo from the early days of blues music. Who'd have thought it? -

Jean-Michel Jarre, Equinoxe. The album that first got me into listening to music, hearing my best friend's brother playing it when it first came out. It is unknown if Jarre used roundwound or flatwound mains cables on the bass synths. -
@Andysylvia - I have updated the review with dimensions, and some photographs with the tape measure on the case. Hope this helps.

Amourdillo Bass Defender Semi-rigid Case/Gigbag review
Richard R replied to Richard R's topic in Hardware & Accessories
Updated with some internal measurements and photographs as promised. The internal length, if you keep the bottom padding in place, is about 117 cm. If you were to take that pad out you would have a length of nearly 123cm, at the expense of some protection. Max width about 34cm. The neck rest can be moved, it sticks to the case floor with wide velcro. Maximum distance from the top is 23cm, min is 16. -
Thanks for that. It looks like the width of the body starts back from the metal. Will be ordering a couple 👍

Tips for a consistent sound when going ampless through a PA?
Richard R replied to geoham's topic in General Discussion
p.s. I also had to use just DI and wedges for a couple of services, as the cab was playing up. It's hard to put enough bass in to be heard clearly, and I suspect they aren't voiced for that. If there's a wedge just for you then you could plug a £30 wired iem amp instead and leave the wedge where it is, silent and unused. -
Tips for a consistent sound when going ampless through a PA?

Sound for the monitors will be different to the FOH. In most cases the eq will be the same, as your monitor feeds will be Aux out post eq, but the engineer will have FOH as the priority, and so be eq-ing so that the instruments sit properly in that mix. Your monitor mix will have a subset of the instruments at different volumes, so will sound different. That will be true for wedges or iems coming from the desk. That said, if the band can't hear themselves, the performance suffers, and when I am FOH I find it is worth taking almost half the practice time to get the monitor mixes acceptable. If you're back at the same venue and approach the engineer along the lines of "Everyone liked the FOH mix last time, but we struggled a bit with foldback, can we spend some time on that this time?", you can build up a good relationship pretty fast. I've had the interesting experience of playing in the band for the last month, having been FOH for years. What was a real revelation is that a band really has no idea what is out front at all. I sort of knew that, but only appreciated it properly when I was playing. -
This is an absolute pain. Almost every audio cable I have ever used or made up has the body of the 3.5mm connector just too large to fit into a phone/tablet with a case on. If I am running the PA then I often have to ask folks to take their device out of the case. At some point I need to butcher a pair of earbuds to make an adapter with a narrow body. But then I would worry the wires are too flimsy to withstand stage use.

I meant to post photos with a tape measure! Nag me if I haven't done it in the next couple of days.

Far and away it was the best ending to "Moon River" we have ever done. Glad the bass survived though!

I had a play with the configurator, and you can make a pretty nice looking bass, as well as some wacky options. The headstock shape isn't a problem for me - there are worse and it's definitely distinctive and would stand out on stage. However the white/orange logo on the end really isn't my taste, I'd prefer something more something more subtle-- a black stencil on the bass below would be good. However - they key thing is what they play and sound like. If they play well and sound good then that's the main thing, and hopefully there is a decent target market for bands who want a great sounding bass that does the job they want and that they can customise to suit. Good luck to @BITE Guitars - I wish you every success. 👍

Right. I guess the approximate equivalent on a BG would be how far the body is carved to allow you to reach the upper notes. Though there is no equivalent of resting the thumb against the body as a datum position that I know of. Thanks for replying, I appreciate that. Not sure when the knowledge would ever be useful, but that's the difference between education and training. 🙂

The SE bash suggested including in the equipment listwhat strings are on each bass, since the strings make such a difference to the sound. That way if someone wants to hear what flats/tapeworms etc. sound like they know where to go.

Ever wandered into a conversation by accident and thought "what on earth are they on about?" Since I play one of those "short horizontal toys" as a colleague once described bass guitars, I am a bit bemused. Are you referring to the scale length of the neck, as I would say 34", 35" etc., or the lowest note on the thickest string, or the former, but with some standard using notes as reference? In my world I know how long the neck is, and tune the first string E, or D to suit the song if I need to. I thought double bass was similar tuning EADG, but it seems Eb was a standard length?? Google hasn't helped one jot, so can someone please take pity and explain?

If you are referring to the rather spiffing avatar that someone kindly sent as my secret santa, then I thought it was a giant bloomer.

Doveridge village hall,Sand Lane, Doveridge, DE6 5JQ Taken from the start of the 2019 Bass Bash thread. If the preschool group meets in the hall, that would explain the FB suggestion. Cross posted with "Lightning Thumbs" Teebs.

That would make it a gathering of the under 5's. Which excludes at least a couple of basses I want to have a go on!
-
Oooh - those are nice basses. Spent far too long on the FB page. Repeats: "Must learn to play the one I have, must learn to play the one I have, must learn.. "

Thanks Jamie - excellent venue and thanks for organising it. 100% want to come. 80% sure I can.

Likewise. Rock In Peace, Neil.
