The bass sale that turned a (massive) corner…
Richard R replied to AndyTravis's topic in Basses For Sale
A little late to the thread but I've chipped in. You realise @AndyTravis that you can now never sell or part with that bass? Future archeologists will be wondering why, in the 21st Century, a man was burried with a Gibson Ripper, and concluding correctly he that must have been a man of great stature in his community. -
What, and spoil a great weekend by giving myself a an even bigger inferiority complex? 😉

The best Formal, and Informal, musical lesson of your life?
Richard R replied to ARGH's topic in General Discussion
The most encouraging thing was a comment made by a friend and great musician at church when I first took a borrowed bass to him and asked if he could show me how to play. "Yep, you're a bass player". He died not long afterwards and I am still trying to live up to that statement seven years later. -

Welcome aboard.

Genius idea as it is, " I bought an Ashdown amp as a present to my beloved Ibanez" is not going to fool anyone! And I don’t actually understand what @OliverBlackman has bought, so on that basis he must be guilty of something 😁

That is lovely!! If it sounds anywhere near as nice as it looks (and I bet it will) that's a keeper.

Church Weekend away this weekend. Our sound man wins the best t-shirt competition by a country mile!

A desktop only web site that doesn't work on a phone. How quaint.

Welcome aboard! Nice collection of basses. Loads of helpful people in the Repairs and Technical thread here can help out with rewiring.

To answer the question @Chienmortbb dare not ask. The Pro had a slightly rubberised outer case. Over time and use I managed to get marks on it that wouldn't come off, so I used the alcohol wipes I use to clean bass strings and wiped the case clean. DO NOT EVER DO THIS! It cleaned the marks, but then softened the stuff they had put on the case and it went really sticky and unpleasant to touch. i couldn't remove it with scraping so I had to dismantle the thing and soak the affected parts in meths*. All ready to go back together now.

I have a Zoom H4n Pro in bits with the outer case parts soaking in methanol to remove some very sticky gunk.

I think I'm with the others in that the 745s just shade the Evox, but it's within the margin of error listening on YT, and I didn't hear anthing that suitable eq for the room wouldn't resolve. The minor problem I had was with the second track. I spent much of it distracted as the intro reminded me of a completely different song which I couldn't quite place. It's just popped into my head - "Hold you back" by Status Quo. (Apologies to anyone who ends up with that earworm all day at work.)

But those of us who missed it can now experience some of the warm thrill of confusion, that space cadet glow. Thanks both.

Thanks Phil, and to those who've commented too. I shall get headphones and a mug of tea later on.

The Bass Show UK - Cranmore Park, Birmingham - March 1st and 2nd
Richard R replied to Goliath_FX's topic in Events
Excellent news! The guitar shows at Cranmore have had a decent amount of bass stuff, so if we can have what was the acoustic hall just for basses that would be good. For this year I created various BC lanyards, though as I had to drop out at the last minute I don't know if anyone wore them. Basschat Lanyards.docx -
Can you post a link?

The Midlands bashes have all been on Saturdays, as have some of the others from memory. I think the SE one in 2023 may have been a Saturday, but I had to cry off. I prefer Saturdays personally. @SimonK - start a new thread with Hampshire Bash 2025 as the title and see what dates work for you and the hall. The SW one is already booked in for next year in October, how about April? I used to have friends in Hedge End.

In my Calendar. I shall book the fortnight before off work and spend it in isolation to avoid catching lurgis, getting hit by a bus, or anything else that would possibly prevent me from getting there. I shall also persuade my better half that we should move to the village so I can walk to the bash in case of roadworks on the M6.
