Re-fret for an early '70s Rickenbacker

Yes, and I suspect Noiseworks' standard list price wouldn't cover this one. The question is more about should it be done? -
Re-fret for an early '70s Rickenbacker

Bloody predictive text!!!! -
A friend of mine owns an early '70s 4000s Rickenbacker which apart from being the best Ric I have ever played, and being worth more than a few bob, is of significant sentimental value to her. She was recently advised at a local guitar shop that it needed a re-fret, and was quoted I think £400. Now I wouldn't trust that particular shop with a vintage guitar, but before I suggest elsewhere I thought I would ask here on the pros and cons of even doing the work. As you can see, the frets are indeed very worn - should they be replaced? Noiseworks in Coventry, who do all the Bass Direct setup have a re-fret price listed around £200, and I think I would trust them more than the other place.

3/3 was a typo! I quite often download the sheet music for songs as well as the chord charts so I can get the timing right. Usually it's just the chord charts aren't accurate, not that the time sig is odd.

This has got me thinking, could one write a song where the time signatures were different per verse, and reflected the theological subject of that verse? 1/1 - one God 2/4 - a march to victory 3/4 - the Trinity (not 3/3) as I had typed 4/4 - the gospel writers 5/4- five gifts in Ephesians 6/8 - six days to create the world 7/8 - the Sabath, or holiness 9/8 - apocalypse (with a nod to Genesis fans) Of course even if one could do this, I don't necessarily think one should...

That looks great! The thinnest of black plastic veneer on the headstock would complete the look. I confidently expect it to sound good too 👍

I have a nightmare song as the first one for Sunday - Rend Collective's "You are my vision". This is a bastardised version of "Be thou my vision", and it's in 4/4. After 50+ years of singing this as a hymn in 3/4 it is doing my nut! Basically I'm OK provided I don't listen to the words - as soon as I do that I start playing waltz time... We're also doing "How deep the fathers love", by Stuart Townend. That's in 5/4 except for a few bars in 3/4, and is trivial by comparison. Fortunately we have a fab drummer! 😄

Thou shalt not murder. See also Thou shalt not envy thy neighbour's pedalboard, nor his fretless bass. 😁

This is the last one, as I really do need to practice for Sunday 😁 We need a list of who's going and on what day, similar to the attendees for a Bash

Especially for @Jackroadkill:

Quick starter ideas for badges, let me know what you think. I've got some ideas for (slightly corny) slogans as well. These will print fine at the right size for a typical lanyard, so I'll create a PDF with all the final variants on and upload it. @ped - I may have asked this before. Is the BassChat logo in a particular font?

What are you listening to right now?

A nice antidote to dealing with frustrating device driver issues this morning. 😎 -
I don't know which day I'll be going, and probably won't until Friday evening. I've got things on both mornings. If I remember I'll wear my Bass Bash t-shirt, which would cover up the nipple clamps. We could make up some BassChat badges in standard ID size. I have a slowish day today, I'll see what I can design and post a couple of ideas here.

Walshy's died and you're appearing on Strictly??? 😭

I have borrowed an early 1970s Rickenbacker 4000s. It is fabulous, sounds absolutely huge and is light years better than any other Rick I have ever played. This has cured any GAS I had for owning a Rick, because I know the owner would never part with this one and I can't imagine finding another that's this good.

They won't allow fat basslines anyway. (I'll get my coat)

I really enjoyed reading that - and what an excellent finished bass.
-
Brilliant - I'm stealing that! 😁

^^^^ Amen to that!

There are a lot of us here who play primarily (or exclusively) in church and it's a tremendous privilege to lead worship, and we do like to celebrate that. If you've read a bit of this thread you'll appreciate that quite often it's also a place to let off steam or ask for advice on "situations." Cahon and organ? I would have done the same as you and just enjoyed singing 😁
