  1. Welcome aboard! @Smanth is down Brighton way if I remember correctly, and there are definitely a few others.
  2. Did you decide to stain the fretboard, or leave it?
  3. Just read this. Congratulations on polishing all the grain texture out, it looks excellent. But is there a pic of the finished version with cream pickups, and you in a rolled-sleeve baby blue jacket?
  4. Always puts a smile on my face. Though more of a grimace at the moment as the bass line I am trying to learn is fiddly. As in, it's almost the same as the fiddle part would be if we had one!
  5. What make is that? Ah - it's the same people that make the backdrop stand, in the link you posted earlier.
  6. I would like a magic wand to be able to follow/predict/ recognise chord progressions. Which I am crap at as I always use chord charts. Given that, or chord charts in advance, I would give it a go and see what happens. Without that, walk away and not screw up the artist's set.
  7. I can't put both a Like and Sad TLRT on a post.
  8. Roy Wood leaving ELO. He took half the band with him and formed Wizzard, expecting ELO to maybe make an album or two then fold. Jeff Lynne never looked back!
  9. Hi all, I have a V-bass synth and GK-2B split pickup on the way from ebay. I'm assuming it won't come with the spacers, foam pads or double sided tape to fit the pickup. What is the recommended double sided tape that won't trash the finish on a bass? Is the adhesive- free "nano" tape OK? Thanks as ever, Rich
  10. Of course not! That's another problem to solve. (Anything to avoid practicing)
  11. The truss rod does move with a torx head rammed into it, I'll give it a go to see if I can get it to intonate and play about over the summer, but the board is coming off for a proper job. Before I start a new thread to recount my equivalent misadventures with sharp implements, two questions, probably for @Andyjr1515. How many clamps are realistically needed to clamp a bass neck? Is ToneTech the recommended source of truss rods? Cheers, Rich
  12. I'm out. Free on the recycling thread from the most gracious @jonsparrow91. The truss rod nut is very badly mangled, but otherwise in good nick. I have an autumn project in mind and wanted a donor 5 string, so this is it. I will see if I can get some adjustment using a torx key, enough to string it B-G and play it, but the project will need a functional truss rod so I have added "remove fretboard and replace truss rod" to the list. Of course it's not economically viable, but it will be interesting.
  13. Do cellists suffer from Classical GAS?
  14. Welcome aboard! Hope to see you at a Midlands Bass Bash next year. Keep an eye on the events forum.
  15. Could you progress to being a seasoned amateur?
  16. I will try that first, I just have a gut feeling that it's knackered. I'll find out on Saturday.
  17. I suspect that the real world cost of living is having an impact on us all. ☹️ Or to put it another way: GAS PRICE HIKES HIT GAS! "We can barely afford the bass-ics" say UK forum members. "It was buy food or a Fodera, but fortunately I found a can of tuna under the stairs" (more on p34)
