@Bassassin - have you thought of writing an encyclopedia? Seriously, your posts are a wealth of obscure and fascinating information.

As has been said before, this thread is often an opportunity to let of a bit of steam, we don't necessarily post about the typical services where things go OK. As a contrasting example: Last Saturday almost everyone involved in worship at our church got together for the morning for one of the periodic sessions to reflect on the worship at our church. The theme this time was "excellence". I missed it, being out of the country, but I copy here the short version notes on band prep. This is pretty much what we do anyway. I'm not posting this to say "hey we're great", just to show that it's not all doom and dismay at the coal-face of Church music!

Thanks for posting that. This confirms that I really must not buy a 3D printer, as it would end in divorce! The problems you describe are exactly the sort I like solving, and would happily waste hours doing so.

3D printing sounds expensive. And complicated. However- this is very cool and I'm following it with great interest!

I would have a chat with the minister as well. It may be that worship isn't considered as important in your church compared to teaching, or mission, or helping the poor for example. Different churches are good at different things, or emphasise different things. (One body, many parts sort of thing, but at a bigger scale). The minister may not wave a major wand/ verse of scripture/ ruddy great stick and sort things out, but they may have an insight more personal to your church. (If you're happy for me to do so then I'll share this post with our worship group. They would definitely want to pray for your group).

Welcome aboard! I started aged 51 with a borrowed bass and promptly got hooked. A couple of months later I spent £250 on a second-hand bass (much to my wife's surprise) and here I am another five years on, playing tolerably well and really enjoying myself. Which to my ears sounds fabulous. In one of the videos on SBL he talks about the choice of bass. He really wanted to play fretless, but decided that would just be too much stress to get the intonation right as well as play the music and worry about everything else that had to happen in four days. And another fretted bass had a slightly better tone for what he wanted, but the F felt much better to play this material on. I am so glad I don't have such worries: I only have two basses, they are very different to each other and I can't play either.
