Looks good. Do you put clear plastic or clingfilm over the light each time to stop it getting covered in paint?

Rob Fleet - Adam Clayton-esque P Bass Build - Purple Flake!

Sparkly! 🤩 -
If I understand correctly, the routed shape of the pickguard lifts away from the body as a separate piece. But it appears to match exactly to the surrounding wood of the bass body, implying it was cut from that wood. Assuming the cut didn't go all the way through the body, then the only way I could do this would be to assemble the top, cut the cover, glue the top to the rest of the body, route the cavity and when all is done put the cover on. Is that how it's done?

Great news, and a great bass. You can change the thread title to *FOUND!* 😁

OK, I give up. How did you do that pickguard??

Buying others a gift is definitely allowed. Happy Birthday @Mrbigstuff's relative.

Trying to find that Catch-o-matic I came across this post on a Guild forum refering to a crash-o-maric. I couldn't work out what the guy was talking about or asking, until the reply came with the pictures. https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index.php?threads/the-infamous-crash-o-matic-stand.150985/

An little bit extra to shield as well.

I would say out on T2, but I think not on T1. The pedals are in the signal chain, but not the board or the PSU.

That's horrible! As if someone thought : "How can I make something that's a bit like a child's drawing of her father's Ovation Magnum I?"

Looking promising I'll be there. Brawley 5 string neck-thru, Brawley 4 string with flats. Ashdown ABM300/10 series 1 combo (maybe the 15" extension cab but that would be stupidly loud 😉). Raffle prizes.

Nice colour. How did you prep the surface?

What a great story! Thank you for sharing, and for returning an instrument back to life. -
2025 SE Bass Basheroonie! Sunday 9/11/25 *CONFIRMED*

I was going to @Happy Jack, but as you can tell from the description these are very specialist speaker cables. 200m of cable, 4 square feet in section with gilded banana headsweet HDMI and USB connectors and weighing only 50g would be quite something! -

I'll see if I can clear the 9th. -
Tim Minchin in Birmingham last Wednesday. Hysterically funny one song, tear-jerkingly beautiful the next, f-ing sweary in all the introductions, and man what a talent! Great backing band of clearly top-notch musicians having a blast. Absolutely recommended if there are tickets near you!

If you're playing old hymns then they're written for an organ, so long low notes are just fine. Weird problem with my IEMs today, just making farty flappy noises anything lower than the open D. Swapped the IEM amp and phones but same problem. I gave up and just listed to the room, as it sounded great out front.

Maybe lock this thread as the other has superceded it?

I found that learning and practicing scales and forcing myself initially to always play E and A on the 5th fret made it easy, easier than 4 to be honest as you can use the same chord shapes across the fretboard rather than going up and down. The lower notes are useful if you have a decent PA and the sound engineer rolls off the low end for everyone else. Finishing a song on on a rumbling low C or D is always good.

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?

I could probably clamp a couple to my back using the strap for the bass. I wonder where the ones we had for camping are?
