Welcome aboard! A few Brummies on the forum, so you're in good company. I'm over the border in Solihull. Check out the marketplace for practice amps etc. And if you're free next weekend there's the Midlands Bass Bash up in Nottingham, come up and say Hi.
-
Evening All, Hope your Monday was tolerable, only FIVE sleeps to the bash In advance of the event, some admin and the like. LOCATION Date: Saturday 22 April 2023. Time: 10:00 - 16:00 Not compulsory to arrive on time or stay to the end. Location: Radford Care, Prospect Street, Radford, Nottingham, NG7 5QE, Radford Website: https://www.radfordcaregroup.org.uk/prospect-street/ Google Maps@: Radford Care Group Parking: It looks like there are about 14 parking spaces, but as it's only us then we can block each other in if necessary. There is parking opposite in the retail park, how restricted that is I have no idea. If we need that then load in and then move the car. ENTRY Entry Fee: Β£10 on the door. Cash only, sorry folks. We'll have a register on the door of names so we can keep track. This is partly in case someone's 100kW valve amp overheats and we have to evacuate in the event of a fire, partly because we all have our precious gear there, and partly so we know how much to give to charity at the end Raffle: Β£1 / ticket. Bashes all work on the "If your ticket is called, pick a prize from the table", as it's just simpler. Charity: Any profits on the day to Nordorf Robbins Music Therapy. We've done this for the last couple of Midlands Bashes: Nordorf Robbins CUNNING PLAN Outline plan for the the day (timing and so on all subject to change, but it's always good to have a plan to start with) 10:00 - 12:30: Rock up, set up, talk about basses, play basses, drink tea, etc etc. 12:30 - 13:00: @Andyjr1515 bass setup lesson for those interested, otherwise continue as above 13:00 - 13:45: Lunch - AMPS OFF. There are some nice rigs coming along, so we may have to watch the noise, but past experience is that it all works out OK - nobody needs to prove their manhood at a bass bash. Amps Off for lunch is an idea I pinched from other bashes. 13:45 - 15:00: Talk about basses, play basses, drink tea, etc etc. 15:00 - 15:15: Photo call and Raffle draw 15:15 onwards: as you were with basses, tea, etc etc 16:00: Everyone clear off, but help clearing up would be good. THINGS TO REMEMBER NOT TO FORGET: You. (Anything else is secondary to be honest) Sense of humour, curiosity, clean hands and good manners. Which of course all bass players have anyway, but I thought I ought to mention them. Extension leads. Or Frank will be cross Basses & amps. Or we'll have to talk about kebabs all day. If your amp has a headphone socket then headphones are a good thing to remember as well. And that's it! If there's anything I've missed then @petecarlton or @Frank Blank will undoubtedly point it out. Look forward to seeing you all there on Saturday. Rich

Note to those who haven't met @Frank Blank: he's actually a lovely chap and nowhere near as scary as his reputation and posts suggest.

Truly terrible covers of the good and the great
Richard R replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
I slightly revise my opinion of the band, having read the comments on YT. They were 14 at the time, and frankly at that age just to get up and have a go takes some balls. Now I agree, it's still comically bad, and they hadn't really learned to play, but everyone has to start somewhere. I wonder how many of them are still in bands? Or are captains of industry? Or members here....? -
We definitely need a photo of all the basses lined up in height order like the usual suspects. π€

Truly terrible covers of the good and the great

That's atrocious! I note that there is nobody near the stage, very wise, and I suspect the photographer was behind sandbags 200m away using an ultra long lens. And earplugs. -
A 39.5" Shuker and a Zon Hyperbass?? AWESOME!! I shall try to get some orange smarties too.

The same effect can be achieved with a vasectomy, stops them breeding more guitarists.

Korg nanoPAD2 MIDI controller. From Korg's description: "Sixteen velocity-sensitive pads provide excellent response, delivering drum parts that are full of life. Four switchable scenes deliver 64 different pad assignments. The X-Y pad can control multiple Synthesiser parameters. Use the new "Touch Scale" function to intuitively play phrases on the X-Y touchpad. Simply select one of sixteen different scales, specify the root key and note range to match your song." All works perfectly, but has pink ink marks on some of the pads. These come from marking the pads with their function when the controller was used to select cameras in a livestream setup. The marks might come off, but I've been reluctant to use solvent as the pads are a soft plastic, and the marks don't affect the use. Β£25 +postage. Open to offers.

Westfield "Small Body" bass *open to offers* - *SOLD*

It's a Westfield, and as you can see from the 3rd photograph has a rather small body, hence the title. Very similar to a Thumb, but they couldn't call it that. A nice sounding bass (especially with the flats), and easy to play. Personally I would lower the action a bit, but others may want it left as it is. Normal 34" neck, nut width E-G 30mm, bridge E-G 60mm. Controls are passive VVT, pickups are humbuckers as far as I know. Weight is 3.5kg (7.8 lbs) on my travel scale. Strung with newish Adagio flatwounds. There's a mark on the neck, shown in the photograph, and one or two dinks in the body that are impossible to photograph. I'm selling this on behalf of my son. This was his first bass, bought 2nd hand from PMT in about 2010 when he would have been 14. He learned to play on it, and has played it for years in church until a few weeks ago. He's now playing a rather nice active bass, and has decided this needs a new home. A good bass for a youngster to learn on. Collection in person from Solihull, West Midlands, or somewhere not too far away. I could post it, at buyer's expense, but having never posted a bass I would be a bit nervous!
