  1. An excellent video, thanks. I'll definitely be trying this, but my singing is notoriously inaccurate. I'm not tone deaf, I can hear it's not right, I just don't have consistent control. So either my singing will improve or my playing will get worse, wish me luck. 🫰
  2. The Grateful Dudes, at the Hare and Hounds in Birmingham. Really looking forward to this!
  3. I had never actually heard this song before. Maybe best enjoyed while playing it live to a room full of happy punters, rather than listening to at home on headphones.
  4. Merci pour vos messages. J’ai oublié la plupart de la Français que j’ai appris il y a 40 ans. Maintenant, je dois l’utiliser à nouveau, ce qui est une bonne chose. (Corrected with MS Translator!)
  5. I shall come as a leaf-peeper.
  6. We really should have recorded a video of the setup demonstration @Andyjr1515 gave at the last bass bash!
  7. Dumb question time: What's the difference between lacquer and varnish? I have varnished tables, floors, etc, in the past and not had to wait weeks for things to harden. Or maybe I should have?
  8. Welcome aboard! UK Brummie here, but I have been to Virgennes in Vermont on business many years ago. Vermont is definitely on my list of states to revisit as a tourist.
  9. Welcome aboard! Maybe a careful choice of fretless bass, strings and amplification could get you at least close to the sound you want without knackering your hands playing DB/EUB?Probably worth asking on the DB/EUB thread. And if the Bass Bash Cymru in South Wales happens then definitely get along and meet people. 👍
  10. Signing out for a while, on a  social media and screen break.

  11. Out of time for sound clips. There are some sample demos on the Roland site https://www.roland.com/uk/products/v-bass/
  12. Having played around with it last night, the biggest problem is neck dive on the bass. There isn't space for the hex pickup on my #1 bass, so I can't fit it there. I'll have to try another strap. That aside: matching the volume on the different patches will take some time, and understanding the whole interaction between parameters is very confusing. And the first patch I tried to make won't allow me to mix in the native bass sound. Hours of fun to be had 🤣
  13. The only song of hers I know is the obvious one. Having read her obituary on the BBC news I realise I probably should have paid more attention to her work.
  14. I'll try to record some this week. If not then it will be in a couple of weeks time as I know I won't have time next week.
  15. Project back in action as I sold a couple of bits of kit and so was able to purchase that V-bass and GK2-B that was on e-Bay. Coupled with a bass that was free on the recycling thread I now have this setup, for essentially zero cost: @Franticsmurf - it arrived complete, extremely well packed, and it all works 🙂 The floor unit is big - 48cmx30cm and built like a tank! There are some decent sounds in there, as well as some terrible noises. The "MG-Bass" sound is rather nice, as is the "Fretless 8 string" emulation. I'm not sure if it's an accurate emulation of a fretless 8-string (or even if such a thing exists) but it sounds nice. I'm starting to experiment a bit with editing, but mainly just trying to play cleanly so the more synth-y sounds work OK. @ped - I saw that you sold a V-bass previously and in the advert it said you had set up custom patches. Is there any sort of desktop editor for the V-Bass, or did that only come in with the VB-99? I've not found any patch libraries either, I suspect that is just the age of the unit. @NoirBass - I've joined the V-guitar forum, though most people there seem to have moved to the later VB-99. Thanks to everyone for all the advice - really appreciated. If anyone is interested then let me know on here and I'll post a few clips of the more interesting sounds.
  16. The real reason I was intending to go out this year Roland V-bass and pickup. 😁 The truss rod nut on the free bass responded to a high quality Allen key of the right size with a ball end, so the hex pickup installed on there with tape for now. The V-bass has some excellent emulations of different basses, but I need to play a lot cleaner than I do.
  17. Clamps? Were there no inner tubes long enough?
  18. Pinching that! We have a tangle of four at church.
  19. The BC profanity filter strikes again! "It's the Buzz, pink torpedo!", coming soon to a t-shirt near you.
  20. This is excellent. I have (for no reason I could fathom) kept several old bike inner tubes. Now I know why I have them - they are providential provision for when the fretboard comes off my project guitar in the autumn! 😅
  21. All the best for the house move 👍
  22. Welcome aboard! @Smanth is down Brighton way if I remember correctly, and there are definitely a few others.
  23. Test Welcome!
  24. Did you decide to stain the fretboard, or leave it?
