  1. Interesting reading this thread. I only play in church, if the bass failed it wouldn't be a huge deal except to me so one bass is fine. In a parallel universe where I was paid to gig then I would have to buy a spare bass and take it along, for all the reasons everyone else says. Low chance of failure, but very high impact, and easy to remediate the risk.
  2. Welcome aboard!
  3. Project now on hold. I was offered 2 face value tickets to see Bruce Springsteen at Villa Park this Friday, so that consumed the budget. 😅
  4. Church Weekends Away are fabulous events. Glad your Church was able to do this, and you enjoyed playing.
  5. That cheesewire strap would probably cut through his neck.
  6. I have been wracking my brains trying to come up with a caption for this but to no avail. It just looks so utterly painful!
  7. Welcome aboard! Not that you need welcoming now, but like hey, better late than never.
  8. I would go with the tan, looks like a saddle against the wood. Over time it should pick up scuffs and scratches and patina. Embossing a motif would be better on the plain leather.
  9. Ladies and gentlemen, the venue and promotors apologise for the sightly late start. This was due to the band ensuring their support act had a proper sound check.
  10. "Mustang Sally! Let it happen bass player!"
  11. Springsteen at Villa Park on Saturday 17th. A friend of mine had spare tickets at face value. 🥳
  12. Thanks for booking us at Billy's 10th birthday party! We're going to finish up with a couple of covers by our favourite artists. First it's "Tie me kangaroo down, sport", then "Do you want to be in my gang?" Get Dancing!
  13. Tickets £2.50! I've just paid £98 to see Clapton from the cheap seats at Resorts World. Last time I saw him was nearly 40 years ago, when the venue was called the NEC Arena and I think the tickets were about £15. He blew the roof off then, but I'm expecting a more sedate gig this time.
  14. You need another bass with a yellow-red fade and no pickguard. Then you could have Slack Cassidy and The Sunburst Kid
  15. Welcome aboard! I started exclusively with headphones for at least 6 months, possibly longer now I think about it. I had a zoom H4n handy recorder and plugged the bass into the mic socket with the gain right down. Playing through headphones you will hear EVERY buzz, squeak, etc and it can be a bit depressing. So an amp instantly makes you sound better! Lots of decent amps with a headphone socket, probably some on here in the marketplace. I bought an EBS session 60 for about £80 from here, perfect.
  16. Welcome aboard! In my opinion the only people who should use picks are navvies. Plectrums however, perfectly acceptable. 😁 See also: sidewalk, faucet, quarter-note, pronouncing Z to rhyme with T, etc etc... <grumbles off to find glasses, hearing aid and a pint of warm ale>
  17. Welcome aboard! Squire Jazz - good bass. Cheap amp - all you need.* Stay away from the marketplace 😅 * other than love, and practice. And the latter is optional.
  18. Thanks everyone. That Vbass forum is really helpful, @NoirBass. I'll read up there before I make a decision. And probably miss out on a good deal while doing so knowing my luck. I'll report back when/if there's any progress.
  19. Given that I'm a complete newbie to this, rather than go straight in with a build getting my head round the synth part seems the best place to start. Does this represent good value? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304798339655?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338365712&toolid=20006&customid=EB129124807&
  20. As always, very impressive!
  21. I can plug a USB hard drive into the TV, so it can locally record whatever is shown. The HDD encryption means it can't be played except on that TV.
  22. Ah yes, sorry! I can just about remember names, but having to remember names and BC names is way beyond my capacity!
  23. Not that I can remember. Are you 6'7"?
