  1. Welcome aboard Never too late to start, or nothing left to learn.
  2. Hi Andy, Welcome aboard . Good to see you at the bash yesterday, glad you could make it. That Marcus Miller was very nice indeed. Do let us know when you've figured out what all the knobs do 😁
  3. Aarrghhh!! I forgot to try Owen's Sadowski. Oh well. Saves me gassing for it.
  4. I only took one photograph: 17.5" scale! It sounded great, but I couldn't play it, my fingers were bumping into each other 😅 An unexpected highlight was @dave moffat's bass uke. That I could play, but not as well as @verb, who played it like an acoustic guitar for a quick rendition of "Smells like Teen Spirit". The five string Mayones sounded great, and I resisted asking @owen if any of his basses were up for sale. Good to meet up with people and just natter too.
  5. It sounded fabulous at the bash. I can't remember who was playing it, probably @owen, but it is a beautiful solo instrument. You could play anything on it. Except "Mustang Sally", obviously.
  6. I don't have cakes, but I have chocolates as raffle prizes, @nickmew's Phil Jones Double 4 shoebox amp, and a luggage scale for weighing basses.
  7. The four string came out of the case this morning for the first time since February when I bought the five. (I'm going up to the midlands bass bash so I thought I had better check it was still working) Things I noted in ascending order of importance: The 4 is much lighter than the 5; the Rotosounds, which I didn't like when I put them on at Christmas, I now really like the sound of and might put them on the 5 when I next change those strings; I need to check the action on the 5, as I've been clanking the frets recently, but I didn't at all on the 4. And finally - I have no idea how to play any open strings any more, so if you want something in a key lower than G then I'm stuffed! 😄
  8. I get what you mean "it looks like an old bass", something about it to my eyes says "Expensive late '70's custom shop". Which is a Good Thing 🙂 And it sounds superb! 🎶
  9. I wouldn't be allowed to - my daughter works for Cadbury's and McVities are a competitor. However I'll see what she can get from the staff shop for raffle prizes. If we're having a raffle?
  10. You mean the information we need is at the start of the thread, so everyone can easily find it? What is this new fangled madness?? Thanks both, see you there 😁
  11. @jebroad- what's the arrival and departure time?
  12. I had pencilled this in, now ruling it out as September is getting busy. See some of you at the Milan* bash on the 4th 👍
  13. Nothing from me I'm afraid. Have you checked the marketplace here? I guess an inexpensive P would be the place to start as a general church bass. Or almost any Yamaha at all.
  14. ... a van to cart them all about in? Still need to establish if I can get two basses and an amp in my car.
  15. Thanks for that - infinitely better than "F---orget you". Now I'm off down a rabbit hole of "Live From Daryl's House" episodes. He's played with some great and varied musicians! Live From Daryl's House with Daryl Hall :: Show Archive | Live From Daryl's House (livefromdarylshouse.com)
  16. Son is going to a wedding, so he's not coming with me.
  17. I specified and configured the sound desk, set up all the livestream equipment, and am loosely speaking in charge of the tech. So it's all my fault anyway 🙂
  18. Micky Mouse and Co. employ some Very Expensive Lawyers...
  19. Very nice, both of them. But I have just put down the deposit on a car, can't justify another bass too.
