  1. Played in church for the first time since the weekend before lockdown. No drummer today, only piano, bass and guitar, so just keeping the pulse simple and steady. Good to hear the congregation singing too.
  2. Only three weeks to go!! @jebroad - are we all set??
  3. Welcomed aboard StudyBass.com is definitely worth a look, free and very well structured. Scottsbasslessons.com likewise, but he's a bit marmite.
  4. Welcome aboard! Normally we advise Newbies to stay away from the marketplace so they don't just buy stuff. In your case however, sell away and feed everyone else's GAS 🙃
  5. Welcome aboard! A decent instrument indeed! Lots of people recommend TalkingBass, and for good reason. Can I also suggest StudyBass.com, and Scotts Bass Lessons. The former is free, VERY well structured, and is excellent for a complete newbie, as I was three years ago. It covers essentials like not injuring yourself, setting up, then gets going. Scott Devine is marmite, but his paid stuff is about £90 for the year and I find it excellent. Best of all, find a tutor and/or people to play with 😁
  6. 552, a factor of 100 too many. I've got a practice chanter in the office- I'll take up the bagpipes instead.
  7. Welcome aboard! Do let us know how you get on.
  8. Dave will. So will the other bass player called Dave. But you're right - nobody else will.
  9. I'm playing on the 18th, and will play the 5 string I bought in February. It will probably look pretentious given the likely simplicity of my lines, but the key message of this thread has been to stick with it until it's entirely natural so that's my plan. And I also find that I now want to learn piano. Who knew that the progression of strings would be 4-5-88?
  10. Sometimes a lot better. I listened to the Hillsong originals of a couple of songs we do and thought "what dirges!'
  11. The band I usually do sound for is playing on the 15th August as a full band and the BL asked if I want to play. The guy he asked to do FOH has been away from the desk for a few years as he has a young family, but is absolutely superb. Better start practicing! 😇
  12. Welcome aboard! Nice playing too!

    Hello

    Welcome aboard!
  14. I agree with you completely that "It must be 109" makes most sense, but I have three independent sources from The Internet which state "I must be 109". And when has The Internet ever been wrong???
  15. According to three Internet sources the original line is I must be a hundred and nine I think because the line above is Help me I'm flaming the lyricist chose to keep the focus on the singer, rather than back to the temperature. Or all the sources are equally wrong and just copied the same mistake.😉
  16. I feel my temperature rising Help me, I'm flaming I must be forty-three or more Burning, burning, burning And nothing can cool me I just might turn into smoke Or burn the floor The scan is easy, it's the last rhyme that's harder!
  17. Brawley Artemis 5, much too good for me. New Bass Day post from earlier in the year is here: That's horrendous. The company HQ is in the SF Bay area, and they were all saying how hot it was. Glad it's cooled down.
  18. I have one of those, with frets. Hope to resume practicing now things have calmed down. 😉
  19. If Mr. F. had though the same way we might all be still playing the Bull Fiddle! Thankfully he didn't 😄
  20. Welcome aboard Is there still a heatwave in the Nothwest US?
