  1. Welcome aboard! Give up on trying to find the bass, just join in the chat and play what ya got. Though of course if everyone did that there wouldn't be much to talk about! Happy hunting.
  2. Thats the sort of missionary zeal we need! Tell them that the strings are named Evangelists Also Do Good, that faith without action is meaningless, so they had better start Doing Good!
  3. I definitely agree with the second part, and have concluded that God has a lower opinion of my musical abilities than my technical ones, hence back behind the desks where I do have some talent 😁. I don't think the rota idea would work for us, as far as I know we've always had separate bands, and each has a quite different style. People swap and dep in and out as needed, but basically the style stays the same, reflecting the band leaders' musical leaning. We used to rotate sound engineers separately to the bands, which I preferred, but now the sound guy is effectively part of the band as well. It makes for a high quality and tight band. Rotating everyone would be more interesting, and allow more people to be part of the worship.
  4. A complete topic derail on the "Is Smoke on the Water Heavy Metal?", topic lead to a discussion on Birmingham girls' schools, which allowed us to get vaguely back on topic via the NWHM band Girlschool. Who are still going and released this in 2015. Not the best track on the album, but the one to make you smile!
  5. Just listening to their 2015 album on Spotify. Not going to set the world on fire, but a very listenable album. And reflective of my slightly cross mood as I realise that I can't replace the toilet fill valve because my crank spanner won't fit. Which beggars the very off-topic question, and terrible HM album title, "So How The Hell Did I Fit It Originally?"
  6. So bringing things back on track, were this lot heavy metal? And are they still going?
  7. I sometimes wish I had, I may never get back to either FOH sound or playing bass. 😁 The lead singer in the band I occasionally played with took up bass during lockdown, so I've lost that gig as she's married to the band leader and they practice together. I wouldn't mind, except she's an absolutely awesome singer, but not even up to my low standard on bass. I'm sure she will get there though. (But secretly hope not.... )
  8. It's optimised for speech clarity. YT is better in that respect. There are settings to improve music over zoom, I think I have posted them here, or somewhere on BC, before. I'll have a hunt.
  9. Yes, definitely went to KECH. Have a collection of ties and disreputable friends to prove it. I'd never heard of Hillcrest until you mentioned it though.
  10. Qu32 here, having seen @owen's setup and a few others. Great desk, but IEMs use up a lot of those mixes and groups! I use HD280 pro phones for live work because they shut everything else out really well and have an almost ruler flat frequency response. Which is actually really odd when you first hear it!
  11. I wouldn't know about that, and I'm sure it was just a scandalous rumour!
  12. Originally known as "We've got a fuzzbox and we're gonna use it", if I remember correctly. Formed at KECH Girls' school, or "Next door" as it was known to those of us at the boys' school. Next question: how many of you lot of Brummies, Black Country Lads, Posh Silhillians, New Romantics, metal freaks, ELO freaks (eh?) and so on are heading up to the Midlands Bass Bash?
  13. Trying to get the broadcast sound as good as the live sound is very hard work. Ideally you have a completely independent mix to the PA mix. A good second option is to have the entire band on IEM using electric instruments DI'd so that there is no stage spill, then you mix for the broadcast and the PA is just a big amp. The hardest version is band on stage with a mix of electric and acoustic instruments and foldback. Then you naturally have to mix for the congregation and balance that with the stage. What goes into the PA isn't anything like what people hear and isn't great for YT. I've done a couple of services with a trio of acoustic guitar, piano, and a real beginner on bass ( one note per bar). Very easy. Next one I am on is a full band plus cahon, flute, and couple more vocalists, half on wedges half on IEM. I will probably try two separate mixes. I will probaby mess up.
  14. One of my school friends had a really thick brummie accent. French lessons were great. He had the language and grammar down perfectly, and spoke pretty well. But every so often his natural accent would break though. Bonn jewa!
  15. Well I was trying to find a venue for the Dudes to play near here, but some bugger went and bit the head off a bat in Wuhan and messed up the world BLOODY OZZY OSBORNE FANS!!!
  16. You know how some forums keep religiously to the topic in hand? Basschat isn't one of them....
  17. @bnt, sorry you can't make it. 🙁Thanks for updating the list.
  18. Looks fantastic, the photo makes it look slightly menacing with the hot valves lurking in their cage and the red light like the Terminator's eye. As for names, JapanAmp?
  19. https://youtu.be/Y_X9AyP0d_w Video may not have embedded, so added link.
  20. Is Mr. G a known Dead Head? I bet he grows magnolias.
  21. Enjoy the gigs, and best wishes for the gigs and the wedding. Will you be playing Smoke on The Water at the reception ?😉
