  1. @jebroad- what's the arrival and departure time?
  2. I had pencilled this in, now ruling it out as September is getting busy. See some of you at the Milan* bash on the 4th 👍
  3. I'll see if I can pick one up on the way.
  4. Maybe?
  5. Nothing from me I'm afraid. Have you checked the marketplace here? I guess an inexpensive P would be the place to start as a general church bass. Or almost any Yamaha at all.
  6. ... a van to cart them all about in? Still need to establish if I can get two basses and an amp in my car.
  7. Thanks for that - infinitely better than "F---orget you". Now I'm off down a rabbit hole of "Live From Daryl's House" episodes. He's played with some great and varied musicians! Live From Daryl's House with Daryl Hall :: Show Archive | Live From Daryl's House (livefromdarylshouse.com)
  8. Son is going to a wedding, so he's not coming with me.
  9. I specified and configured the sound desk, set up all the livestream equipment, and am loosely speaking in charge of the tech. So it's all my fault anyway 🙂
  10. Micky Mouse and Co. employ some Very Expensive Lawyers...
  11. That looks fab! Definitely has stage presence 👌
  12. Very nice, both of them. But I have just put down the deposit on a car, can't justify another bass too.
  13. Sandberg California 5? Yes please 🙃
  14. Played in church for the first time since the weekend before lockdown. No drummer today, only piano, bass and guitar, so just keeping the pulse simple and steady. Good to hear the congregation singing too.
  15. Welcome back
  16. Only three weeks to go!! @jebroad - are we all set??
  17. Welcomed aboard StudyBass.com is definitely worth a look, free and very well structured. Scottsbasslessons.com likewise, but he's a bit marmite.
  18. Welcome aboard! Normally we advise Newbies to stay away from the marketplace so they don't just buy stuff. In your case however, sell away and feed everyone else's GAS 🙃
  19. Welcome aboard! A decent instrument indeed! Lots of people recommend TalkingBass, and for good reason. Can I also suggest StudyBass.com, and Scotts Bass Lessons. The former is free, VERY well structured, and is excellent for a complete newbie, as I was three years ago. It covers essentials like not injuring yourself, setting up, then gets going. Scott Devine is marmite, but his paid stuff is about £90 for the year and I find it excellent. Best of all, find a tutor and/or people to play with 😁
  20. 552, a factor of 100 too many. I've got a practice chanter in the office- I'll take up the bagpipes instead.
  21. Welcome aboard! Do let us know how you get on.
  22. Dave will. So will the other bass player called Dave. But you're right - nobody else will.
  23. I'm playing on the 18th, and will play the 5 string I bought in February. It will probably look pretentious given the likely simplicity of my lines, but the key message of this thread has been to stick with it until it's entirely natural so that's my plan. And I also find that I now want to learn piano. Who knew that the progression of strings would be 4-5-88?
  24. Sometimes a lot better. I listened to the Hillsong originals of a couple of songs we do and thought "what dirges!'
