  1. I thoroughly enjoy this thread. More for the torture of logic and reasoning than anything else 🤣
  2. Welcome aboard! We hope you have a nice time too. 👍
  3. I understand completely what you mean about funerals. I work from home, can flex my time, and live close to the church, so I am first call for sound and livestream duties for mid-week funerals. Too many last year and it does get draining, I certainly couldn't play repeatedly at them. I'm now less burned out than I was. We have stable tech across the board, almost enough trained people to run it, and the band I do FOH sound for wants me to play bass. I can hand FOH duties to the person who first taught me the ropes and actually play regularly. Last week I was actually happy with my playing on 4/5 songs!
  4. Want to confuse your bowels, or possibly sent a cheap guitar through the post? Use these:
  5. Before you went all posh and moved up the M42? 😉
  6. Fairport UnPegged were both interesting and superb, as was the support. It would be good to compare notes with @Stub Mandrel who saw the full band last Friday, but I don't want to clutter up this thread. Is there a "concert reviews " thread? If not then I'll start one.
  7. A hat and/or a gilet. I've had cold hands and Reynard's since my teens and get stiff hands or white fingers at the slightest trigger. While gloves and hand warmers work well, I found that by far the best thing is to keep the rest of me warm. If the body is warm then it doesn't pull the circulation from the extremities to try to reduce heat loss.
  8. Good news: Fairport Convention, in about 15 minutes, as I'm in the bar during the interval before their set. BAD NEWS! Before the show the band said that Dave Pegg tested positive for Covid this morning, so is not playing. So they've had to work out a new set of old songs they can play without him.
  9. I see what you mean, it's "nearly but not quite..." Maybe if the body was as-is, but the neck was the colour of the lighter wood on the body and slightly reliced. That would maybe tie it together better?
  10. Following with interest!
  11. Welcome aboard!
  12. Welcome aboard! Pro drummer?
  13. Welcome aboard! Lots of TC users. Rummage around the Amps and Cabs forum and see who you meet.
  14. Welcome aboard! Lots of things you can't learn on TalkBass. Self-deprecating humour and irony being at least two! Cool avatar, do you play from a wheelchair?
  15. Welcome aboard!
  16. Clearly he's too intelligent. As all bassists are 😉
  17. That "rules exist because of breaking them" doesn't actually follow. For example I can build a machine, lets say a spacecraft or submarine, and have a rule that says "Do NOT do X then Y or you will cause an explosion and die horribly ". The rule exists to prevent the behaviour, but was not instituted as a result of someone breaking the rule. It was instituted as a result of a third party understanding the consequences.
  18. I'm clearly tired out this weekend - I thought an Orpington BR6 was a type of bass I'd struggle even more to play a Shirley B90. The Yamaha, however, looks very nice indeed - GLTWS!
  19. Someone traded it for a shinier thread.
  20. Really, really like this! What does it play like?
  21. But is it any good for metal?
  22. Never seen them. I don't consider myself a big folk fan, but I'm looking forward to Tuesday. If only because it's the first live gig in 30 months!
  23. I remembered yesterday getting a flyer in about November, and then forgetting all about it. Just checked out their current album "Shuffle and Go" on Spotify. Like that a lot. FC's website apologises that, due to Covid, they won't be joining the audience in the bar afterwards as usual. And asks that you bring cash if you want to buy the CD as there will be an Honesty Box on the merch stand!
  24. Just bought tickets to see Fairport Convention at my local 300 seater venue on Tuesday. 👍 Then possibly Nick Mason and co in April and definitely Joe Satriani in May.
  25. It's in the signal chain. You're nicked.
