🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I still consider myself a beginner as I played about 4 times in church and then covid hit and work went through the roof. I potter and practice a bit, enjoy myself and slowly get better. And I'm not worried about the test result, more hilariously embarrassed 😉 I couldn't hear enough of de riddim at de start to tap me foot before de damn beeps started! (With apologies for the dreadful attempt to sound like Sgt. Hooper from Death In Paradise and any accidental offence)

Well... sh*t! I didn't actually expect to be that bad! Mistuning perception is fair enough, melody I know I hesitated and picked the wrong one at least twice when I should have gone with my first thought. However I found it impossible to match the beat. There wasn't even one bar of the music to hear before the incredibly loud beeps came in and completely drowned out the reference music. I literally had to guess - but I thought my guessing was better than that. Maybe because I put my age as 53 they assume my HF hearing is shot and upped the beep volume? Maybe if I had put my age as 16 the high pitched beeps would have been at a more sensible volume? Maybe I just should give up playing a rhythmic instrument?

I've not done it yet, too late in the evening to start. However on reading the blurb is does say that the average is derived from those who take the test. Since this is a self-selecting group, who are more likely to be interested in music than the entire general population, then an average score is probably still better than a true average of everyone. And that m'lud is how I will justify my low score on beat matching!

Welcomed aboard! If the BC collective wisdom can't identify an instrument, then it's probably not actually a bass guitar.
-
Thanks both. So a "plausible" idea, but not as good as the established methods. Fair enough!!

Couldn't you do something a bit simpler with two drills rather than one at a carefully managed shallow angle? The first is straight though the body, starting from where the strap button will go, running under the bridge and to the pickup cavity, the second is vertically, or angled, down from the bridge to meet that hole. The first hole will be hidden by the strap button. It's still a long thin hole, but doesn't need to be so carefully angled.

Almost what?

Well played, sir!

That was my thought too, it's the only straight line I can see. I have cheated and looked back through the thread for a pic from the back, and on one image there appears to be a vertical line running just in front of the pickups on one. But it could equally be an image artefact. I give up. 🤷♂️

Amateur bass player Martin, I get in touch from Germany!
Richard R replied to inthefields's topic in Introductions
Welcome aboard. Never too old to rock and roll. Or funk, or, jazz, or pop, or..... -
You're in! Too late to back out now 😄 A backrest has got to be allowed. A comfort strap would be, and avoiding injury is absolutely more important than staying in a forum competition. Welcome to the forums by the way

😥 On the Sandberg, or on anything?
-
Looks good to me! You may think it's not worthy of the thread, but remember two things: It's more than most bass players have ever done. Including me I should add. Everyone starts somewhere. There was (probably) a time when @Andyjr1515 didn't know one end or a chisel from another. 😉

I can't add anything, just posting so that fabulous picture appears more than once. Really good decision to go with the pickguard.

Sadly that sums up most of the bass lines I can imagine as well 😥

SOLD: NS Bolin Amber Piezo 5 string: Reduced Price : £700
Richard R replied to Mikey D's topic in Basses For Sale
I keep coming back to this, trying to work out how to justify buying it. I don't play 5 string, don't need a piezo bass, but really like the design! 🙂 What's the width at the nut and bridge, and how deep is the neck? I've trawled the internet but can't find any actual dimensions or information on this. -
Please allow us cack-handed buffoons a go too!

Welcome aboard! BC should keep you entertained until you can gig again. Stay away from the market place 😄

Welcome aboard! Lots of love for Ibanez in these forums. I do like the headless in your first pic.

The electronics for this are phenomenal! This a a bass which will freak out FOH engineers as it has it's own PSU, freak out airlines with the Lithium batteries, freak out the drummer who is the only other person to see the back of the neck, and hopefully freak out the audience with the sound. This has got to appear at Bass Bashes up and down the land when we are allowed them again. Or we will find out where you live and descend en masse.
-
One for playing on stage - with a certain sweet-smelling fug wafting in from the audience. Mellow-out guys, don't be cruel dudes 🌻

Following with interest, mainly to hear what it sounds like when finished. Tinkering and messing with stuff is good. 👍

"I'm delighted to inform you Mr. BassTool that you have passed your tractor driving test on the 13th attempt. You picked up a minor failing due to occasionally missing one of the three cross-linked reverse gears. Otherwise well done."

Welcome aboard! Do head on over to the build diaries and post there if you have pics of the work in progress. Always good to see a new instrument come into the world. Unless maybe it's a trebble recorder... 😬
