we use soundrop, costs about £1 a track (or did last time we used it) and they put it on most if not all the streaming sites, get a statement every month giving details of how many streams and where the songs have been streamed, when the amount reaches $20 we get a payment, which takes an age, especially now spotify don't pay anything till a 1000 streams in a 12 month period is reached

this^ we have just had a request for I Wanna Be Sedated for one of our gigs, they don't come any simpler than that but it's a great song and good fun to play IMO. It's one those where you think why is this simple song so good, I remember a quote by Gary Moore when talking about great guitar riffs, "A great guitar riff is one that is so simple you think to yourself why didn't I think of that?"
-
yes you're probably right, I like listening to songs by artists where the bass is more prominent, Stranglers, Jam even the Beatles on some of their tracks, especially the remixed versions, even Status Quo up to but not including Rocking All Over the World, the bass drove the songs along instead of just adding low end

Anyone else doing the Black Sabbath live stream?

so he could have been saying "Where's my fcuking cake" 😂 -
seems to be the modern way, bass is there to add bottom end, nobody knows what a bass does until it's not there
-
unless you can tell a difference from hearing gig or recording does it matter? amused me that the Rod Stewart bassist used 3 basses at Glastonbury and you could hardly hear him, never mind tell any difference between them I used a different bass at one of our gigs, I said to my partner afterwards how it sounded, she replied "It sounded like a bass!" 😂

just watched the Sabbath set on youtube, wasn't embarrassing at all, Ossie's voice is still sounds the same, amazingly, you could tell he really wanted to stand up but the old legs wouldn't let him, rest of the band were spot on, a great way to go out. Any lip readers out there? be interested to know what Ossie said when the rest of the band exited the stage and left him there -
I see there's a predictable storm about Gary Glitter getting a royalty payment for Hello, but it does seem the obvious song to start with, but as Glitter is bankrupt maybe his victims (creditors) will get it? edit, anyway he's still in jail so won't do him much good, Mike Leander will be pleased though

Remastered doesn't mean its any better
PaulWarning replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
Remixes can make a big difference, remasters not so much, most remixers/remasters I've heard involve the bass being boosted, no bad thing IMO -
just listened to John Fogerty on the iPlayer, the sound was so much better than when I listened to him live, the bass was up in the mix, and we got the full set, wish he hadn't done quite so much talking though, he might have had time to do Bad Moon Rising then

should have bought Ronnie Wood on to play bass on Maggie May, it's a great bass line on the recording
-
well Fender recommend 2.4mm at the 17th fret, so not a million miles away, it all depends on your style of play and how much fret rattle you can put up with, I'm a fairly heavy handed pick player so I set mine up round about the Fender specs. Basses do have a higher action than guitars, longer neck and thicker strings are the reason for this I suspect. There are plenty of tutorials on youtube on how to set up a bass

I've pondered packing it all in, but then I'd miss the gigs, I won't miss is the band hassles, loading my car up, all the setting up and breaking down, I don't look forward to gigs like I used too, but once I'm up there playing I still enjoy it, I'm lucky in that I don't have any health problems I suppose when I do that'll be the time to give it all up
-
unless there is a way to read the minds of disorganised (or just don't care) bands members I don't think there is
-
we use a band google calendar, gigs and unavailability goes on it, it works fairly well, mostly.
-
it's a bit late in the day for us to do that, unfortunately, but there's local young band, sounds like the Jam, Sharp Class, who plan go out as a covers band called Sounds of the Suburbs, last I heard anyway
-
it's certainly a young man's game, there's a lot of truth in the saying "if you've not made it by the time you are 30 you're not going too" Our latest guitarist is 22, brings the average age of the band down to slightly under 50 🤣. it's hard work gigging all over the country, I guess that's why there's personnel changes invovled with some bands, I don't think Headsticks have had that problem have they?
-
surprised that you're not getting playlisting or airplay, I last saw you at at last years Bearded Theory, you had a decent crowd, I guess the fact I see you get on at smaller festivals has skewed my judgement, just looked at your plays on Spotify, and yes they're not that great. You do do a lot of gigs around the country which is good for album sales, Verbal Warning have been stained by doing mostly covers gigs locally, we struggle to get any originals gigs these days, one comment for a local promoter when we asked about a support slot for a punk gig (999) he was putting on "Why would people pay to see you when they can see you for free in the local pub?" There are some local originals bands around but they struggle to get any gigs at all, a conundrum for sure
-
I suspect we're talking about bands that are a lot less successful than Headsticks 😊
-
We're thinking about releasing an EP of 4 new songs, our singer is keen because he's an avid collector, we may sell a few at gigs and if we keep costs down may get our money back but I can't remember the last time I bought an album, I listen to most of my music via my phone these days, usually bluetoothed in the car. Most people I know don't buy physical albums any more, they use streaming services, which is really bad news for small artists but it's the way it is, I can't really complain because that's what I do.

as a resident of Nottingham I feel duty bound to say that Robin Hood is more likely to be true than Nessie, or blowing speakers by turning an amp up to distortion levels by the 'sounds' of it. But hiding in the Major Oak or robbing from the rich to give to the poor probably as big a myth as the other two
-
aren't you more likely to damage a speaker by using and underpowered amp then running it at full power? asking for a friend

they'll be more knowledgeable people than me along soon, but wattage is not a good way to know how loud something will go, I did used a Trace Elf 1 x 8 combo once, and that wasn't loud enough, but others have said the Elf's are with the right cab
