on the subject of flattened notes, I know my theory is sadly lacking but the note that makes a chord a 7th is not in the major scale, something about dominant scale, it always strikes me as odd, but it sounds ok, almost like well it doesn't follow the rules so we'll make up a new one up

[/quote]I've got 2 GP12's heads one an SMX and the a series 6, the SMX has more bells and whistles but they sound pretty similar, I got them for under £200 each and they're both in excellent condition, I've also had a 7215 SMC GP7 combo, which I sold because of the weight, they all sound pretty much the same tbh just look out for a good condition one, shouldn't have to pay more than £200 I'd say, have a look on ebay, they're usually collection only so you have to wait for one nearby but they are cheaper that way -

I've got a couple of Trace heads (no they're not for sale)they're rated at 200 and 250 watts and they're both as loud as my 500 watt Rumble V3, I use them with Fender V2 cabs, I've had a combo but they are heavy, a head with lightweight cab is a nice compromise IMO -

did a gig at the weekend with full PA, with the XLR plug into the back the EQ (and the preshape but I don't use that) section refused to switch on, still didn't when I uplugged the XLR after the gig but just tried it at home and it works fine, I know this can be an issue with SMX's but I was wondering if it could have been caused by the XLR feed to the mixing desk

I normally don't bother the odd spelling error but it's really starting to piss me off, it's the Jean Genie, not Gene Genie or G G, if you can't spell it right it's not a good start, and if G A G doesn't sound right it's probably because you've got so used to playing it wrong, or, your guitarist isn't playing it right, ok rant over

don't know about anybody else but I prefer to pay for my beer in cash, I can tell how much I've spent a lot easier (and whether I've been fiddled) I think it depends on what type of pub it is, generally the older the customers the more cash is used, indeed some pubs I go in don't even take cards or if they do you've got spend over a tenner, a separate issue, the big bad banks have made a brilliant job of making themselves indispensable don't you think?

[/quote]never understood why landlords pay a band 'off the books' after all it's tax deductable for them, on the other hand if you don't sign a receipt for the money it's a gig done for free as far as some bands are concerned. Of course if it's your main source of income you have to justify your life style as opposed to your declared income, a lot of tax avoiders get caught out like that

[/quote]Playing devils advocate, if all the small time tax dodgers were added up it would probably be far bigger tax loss than what the likes of Starbucks and Amazon cost the exchequer, you're talking billions of pounds, that's why the Government hates cash, but it'll be a long time before people start paying the window cleaner in anything other than cash. Slightly different point, some pubs want to pay in cash because it costs them to bank money (not as much as paying by card costs them though), they like to get rid of it, hence cashback

happens all the time, but I'm surprised the Killers don't have there own sound guy, I've heard support acts sound crap and the main act is good, either by design or incompetence, I've told this story before I was at a smallish festival a couple of years ago and all weekend the trebley kick was dominating the sound, the bass a dull thud with no definition, The Ruts DC came on great sound everything spot on, I was so intrigued I messaged the Ruts bassist Seg Jennings and asked him, his reply was they'd got their own sound engineer, so in that case it was incompetence because they weren't even the headliners. At the Butlins punk weekend last year In from the Jams sound was superb, next band on the Sex Pistdolls was so bad people were walking out saying how crap they were, again all bass drum, so like you say it's not the PA it's sound engineers

just bought these Fender V2 cabs off ebay after a heads up on here, £100 for both, used them for a gig at the weekend, nice clear punchy tone, clearer and punchier than the Fender V3 I've been using, and so light even my partner carried them in from the car, the 2 x 8 is 11.3 Kg and the 1 x 12 is 10.3Kg, the only downside is they're not very sensitive my Trace Elliot 250 watt amp was at 3 o clock instead of the normal 12 o clock
