Don't play many multiband bills but when I do they sometimes want everybody to use the same amp for this reason I use an Zoom B1on pedal to get 'my sound' saves an awful lot of hassle, it can always go before any DI box that's being used

I use a Trace Elliot head, SMX GP12, with a light weight cab, best of both worlds

if you're after songs where you can hear the bass line so you can figure it out, try raising the song a whole octave with audacity or something similar makes the bass stand out, Blink 182 stuff is not very challenging, the Ramones even less so, but great fun, Hey Ho Let's Go

[/quote]the only time our drummer plays is at rehearsals and gigs (that's why we practice so often tbh) he could play quieter but it wouldn't have so much fun for him and we're all in it to enjoy ourselves aren't we? pass the earplugs please :-)

I use a Zoom B1on, it has unlimited settings, I have it set just below the level where break up occurs all the time (just before it gets spikey), then use the heavy OD/distortion for Ace of Spades type sound, all for around £45

scooped sound is lovely when playing on your own but live with the rest of the band it's a no no, I've got a Trace GP12 and I turn all the sliders down below 100Hz, and don't use the TE shape button, what you hear and what the crowd hears are 2 different things, generally you need to think you're not 'bassy' enough but you probably are especially if there's a bit of a crowd in, I've found that bass is particularly affected by bodies in the room

if there was a formula everybody would be writing hits, but, some sort of hook, singalong lyrics, and a bit of familiarity and quite a lot of repetition all help.

never quit a band, mind you I've only ever been in one (with various members), but the best reason and only reason is, if it's not fun anymore (unless you do it for a living), but I will say this, if you feel like quitting give it a couple of days to calm down before announcing it

songs where the bass line is the song and not just filling in gaps around the chords, Peaches and Sunshine of your Love spring to mind and Warhead as previously mentioned

[/quote]it does appear that way until your brain gets used to them, it took me a year and it's no good just wearing them just some of the time either, if it's the NHS ones they can set them so you can switch off the rear mic, didn't make much difference for me but might be worth a try
