1. not sure it's better than Chucks version, how could it be? but it's a different twist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyytlU-uS7k
 2.
I know everyone and their granny has probably made better combos. but i still particularly fancy a TE, its just that i dont know what was available ( GP7 GP11 GP12 etc )
wouldn't have said that, they're very good combos it's just the weight of them, I started with a combo but now have 2 TE heads, one is a series six and the other a GP12 SMX which I prefer, so I'd look out for one of those, God knows what it will weigh though Edit, apparently they're 104 pounds, hope your back is in good nick https://www.talkbass.com/threads/fs-ft-trace-elliot-gp12smx-410-combo-kc-local-only.953381/
 3.
Hey, I have no solo pretensions and I doubt many have but look on the gear threads of this forum and tell me people are not particular about there sound. I am and I am also not interested in recording so the dual rig thing is bogus. Its the blend of instruments that make a sound and If we all used the same tone it would all pretty much sound the same. Sometimes its peoples differences that make it interesting. Everything from Glen Cornick, JJ Burnel to Chris Squire. Imagine if there sound guys had simply dialed there unique sounds out and made them generic bass tones live, cos it was easier. The OP is all about "Improving live tone".
problem is all those guys have their own sound engineers who know what they should sound like, the rest of us have to use an in house sound man who has no idea (and probably doesn't care) what we want to sound like
 4. never used an Ampeg TBH, wouldn't have thought Trace's could be described as modern and clean though, certainly not compared to class D amps anyway, but if the Ampeg is a valve amp it's not really a fair comparison, not sure which Trace you've got the GP is the preamp and the number of EQ sliders usually follows that (GP7, GP12 etc) the 150 is normally the power amp rating and has AH before it, as I said before try the gain at full that might distort the sound, does on mine. As for the send and return I never use them, can't see the point just use my FX pedal in line with my Bass lead
 5.
I have just got hold of one of these pedals second hand but am not happy with the overdrive sound. When I turn up the drive control the sound cracks up and there is a loud HF whistle. Maybe my pedal isn't working right. Should the overdrive sound smooth? If so I may try getting another one thanks
the overdrive is a bit on and off, after about 3 o clock it suddenly starts getting all 'spikey', I use a Zoom B1on for this reason a lot more controllable and not much more money, haven't noticed the HF whistle though
 6.
So what is appropriate for a band paying pubs? I appreciate a function band will have a more defined/coordinated look, but wouldn't stage gear seem a bit OTT for playing the Dog and Duck?
depends what you mean by stage gear, look at my avatar, that's what I wear every gig, the rest of the band look like this all the successful bands in my area have a 'look' to go with the type of music they play and stick roughly to a certain genre, (Mod, Ska, (very popular is Ska) Heavy Rock etc) remember you can't please all the people all the time, so just try and please some of the people all the time
 7. an ultra Spinal Tap moment a TE amp that goes to 12!, I presume you're talking 10 o clock and 12 o clock here, I've got 2 Trace amps and use another at the rehearsal room and never had this problem but I do tend to have the gain high (passive P bass), full on at rehearsals, might be worth a try
 8. cut the low frequencies, I've found I have to cut 60Hz to cut boom (Trace GP12 and P bass) then boost low mids (100 - 200 Hz) a touch if necessary, but yeah go wireless or a long lead, get 30 feet away from your cab and the tone can alter quite dramatically depending on the room, obviously this is if you're not going through a PA, if I am I go post EQ from my amp, at least I have some control over what's happening FOH, my partner knows what I should sound like and lets me know if things aren't right
 9.
The website is good, it's got all the right content. The gigs page with one gig might be counter productive. I don't think the image of the band works. I realise a lot of covers bands just wear random t-shirts and jeans/shorts but if you're struggling to get gigs, sharpening up the image would probably help. I watched the video for "are you gonna go my way" because it's the only one of the 3 I can stand (sorry). At the very start, the singer introduces the song, but doesn't seem very confident. After it's kicked in, everything seems good, but the sound quality is not great. It sounds like one side of a stereo mic was pushed against a cushion or something? So I would sharpen up the image, get an unpaid gig somewhere (anywhere), get a mate with a go pro to film it, and give the front man some coke.
yep, I hate it when a band looks like they've just walked off the street. Jeans and T shirts is a poor effort IMO of course, especially from a front man
 10. IMO, and I've only got a Squire VM Jazz compared to a MIA P, the Jazz sounds great on it's own but in a rock band situation because it's a lot more scooped sound it doesn't cut through, the P has loads of grunt around 200Hz, which the Jazz just doesn't seem to have, unless I put the pick ups in series mode
 11. the way I got my Jazz to 'cut through' was to fit a push/pull volume control so I could make the pick ups in series, makes the lower mids more pronounced, a lot like my P bass, which I guess is not quite the idea, but does solve the problem of the Jazz not being heard in the mix
 12.
I was there both nights in Birmingham and I thought they were awesome. Considering Ozzy is barely comprehensible at the best of times it's pretty amazing he actually got through most of the set but I think I'd have to agree that he's probably on his last legs with his performances. Had a blast both nights though, so money well spent for me!
actually there was an interview with Oz before the final show and he was very comprehensible, he's been clean for 5 years (fags, booze and drugs) a million miles away for the shambling wreck he was in the Osbournes
 13.
I don't, I go and see tribute bands instead!
I'm with you on that one, but most folk seem perfectly happy to pay inflated ticket prices to see their heroes on video screens in aircraft hanger type venues
 14. done, but we have the power to stop them, just don't use them, as with inflated ticket prices, supply and demand is what it's all about
 15.
Setlist for final show is on the NME site - http://www.nme.com/n...m-watch-1967589 I've always had time for the Ozzy and RJD albums, some great stuff. I'd have found the tracks chosen a bit disappointing - for a final show. A bit like after all those years of playing, it comes across like admitting that it all comes down to the first 3 albums (with a couple of exceptions) - which I don't believe it does. Wouldn't expect Ozzy to sing Ronnie's tracks, but even for their original albums, it's all a bit obvious. .....and then there's the Bill Ward thing.......
damned if they do damned if they don't, when you've released as much stuff as they have there's no way you'll keep everybody happy, but I'm guessing that set list would please more people than it disappoints
 16. as said before you need somebody whose good at and enjoys talking to people, our singer (no surprise there) is very good at talking (usually about himself) but he knows loads of people and goes round pubs chatting to landlords and stuff and loves going to gigs, in fact I originally asked him to join the band, not because he was a decent singer (I didn't know at the time) but I knew he'd get us gigs.I occasionally have a go but I'm not a natural salesman and soon get disheartened.
 17. no problem it was a good night, we'll do it again sometime
 18.
Cheers. The interwebz don't reveal too much about either gear-wise (mics in particular). JT Soar looks fairly basic, but this could be entirely wrong. First Love a little less so and his CV looks pretty good too. 'Creative live recording' sounds about right to me. I'll talk it over. Any idea what kind of ballpark rates we'd be talking. Don't want to waste the guy's time after all.
Random charge £175 a day, but you can negotiate with him, depending on how many days you're booking, he's a nice guy as well (and his name is Guy)
 19. cynically old me, I wonder what she's expecting off you? if she says nothing and you get her nothing you could be in big trouble and if you spend the same as her what's the point? I know I know pragmatism to a fault, sorry for being such a miserable bastard
 20.
You can still vote for the 3 you hate the least! BTW, I hardly put any work in to mine, so slag away, I really don't mind this time!
ok I've found the 3 to vote for, I don't hate them, it just stuff that doesn't interest me, having said that, I'm not keen on open myself up for public ridicule, so fair play to them
 21. it's difficult, basschaters don't like to slag off someone else's hard work, so if you can't say something nice say nothing at all, none of them are my cup of tea, sorry
 22. we used Random (http://www.random-recordings.co.uk/) for our last album, Verbal Warning - Red Star Radio, it's on spotify if you want to have a listen, which by consensus turned out well, in fact we're booked in to record our next album there in a few weeks, very reasonable pricing as well, the one criticism I have is that it does seem to take him a long time to do the mixes, he also makes a decent fist of the final mastering as well which keeps costs down, I would imagine BigRedX will be along shortly, he's had more experience than I have of recording studios
 23.
Blitzkrieg Bop - it's a tough one to f**k up
yeah we start with that, message on intent being a Punk, mostly covers band, although different members at different times (me included) have been known to forget the stop towards the end
 24.
Cheers. I have issues with Facebook scripts and can't watch them in real time due to my script blocker. Have you a download site that does not pester please?
try here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjmPz2u6XVKsFdC8QJMCyxg
 25.
Yes. It isn't something I'm comfortable with yet. I would have loved to have played some of the songs that I've practised as play alongs, just to bring them to life. Out of my list of 21 songs, none of them were familiar enough to the singer/guitarist for him to feel comfortable so I tried to brace his songs as best I could with very rudimentary lines. Lots of bum notes, odd moments of blind panic, that sort of thing. The "audience" was a party of three; two women celebrating their friend's 72nd birthday with shots! At one point the old girl was doing the Can-can from her seat. I am so grateful that she wasn't facing the stage. For me the "discomfort", for want of a better word, is exactly why I'm doing it. At 54, if I don't take my axe out the bedroom now, I ain't never gonna get no wood chopped.
If you want to check out our FB page https://www.facebook.com/PaulandWendyWarning77/ there's 3 videos of us 'performing' at open mics, if it's your thing we could perhaps have a go at meeting up at an open mic, no Thin Lizzy I'm afraid
