1.
How about Bee Gees and late Cliff stuff?
if it's good enough for the Ramones it's good enough for me (Lets Dance and Do You Wanna Dance)
2. just says 'Error This upload failed' and this is next to the attach this file 'Used 30.61MB of your 30MB global upload quota (Max. single file size: 50MB)'
3. had a stingray never really got on with it now got a P I use a Zoom unit to get different sounds for different songs, it's more flexible than an active bass and easier to change the tone, never seen an active yet where you can get a passable Lemmy tone , but each to their own
4. mines a 2008 and I've no complaints, in fact Lozz196 was saying the same thing, in 2013 sorry Lozz http://basschat.co.uk/topic/204419-best-year-of-fender-precision/
5. I've got a and a Zoom B1on I'm pleased with for around £45, I just use it for a overdrive and EQ, but have never had individual pedals so can't compare there's loads more info on it here https://www.zoom-na.com/sites/default/files/products/downloads/pdfs/E_B1on_B1Xon_FX-list_100.pdf
6. join my band, gumtree, bandmix, open mics, jam sessions edit, beat me too it
7. you ought to be cack handed cuts down on decision making no end seriously I had to get a MIA P for this reason and I'm glad I did because I'd have always wondered what they sound like and got one in the end anyway, if that makes sense. You must have had a really crappy MIM one if it sounded thin, being fat with loads of lower mids is what P's do which is why they cut through in a band situation
8. there's watts and then there's watts, my 200 watt Trace Elliot is just as loud if not louder than my 500 watt Fender Rumble, whether it's to do with the Rumble being a class D I haven't got a clue, hell I don't even know how they manage without a bloody great power supply
9.
What a great great idea using the Zoom headphones out. Never thought of that and Ive got IEM's just sitting in my guitar case! Ive got an AC moulded earplug at -15DB but I just dont get on with them and everything sounds muffled to me (although I put them in later in the rehersal rather than at the beginning which may be the problem) so will try the "zoom soloution" - Thanks!
glad I'm not the only one that finds these ear plugs muffle the sound, people say they just cut across the entire frequency range, but not in my experience
10. I've just been messing a round with my recently acquired Squire VM Jazz, trying to get the action the same as my MIA P, I found it difficult to measure the height with a steel rule accurately, even with a magnifying glass so I used a pound coin under the E string at the last fret, they're 3.15mm and found it to be spot on for my playing style (1mm pick)
11. played a gig in the basement at Rock City at the weekend and the sound was suburb for all 5 bands, in fact our fans that were there said it was the best they've ever heard us, restored my faith in sound men it did
12.
Can the band gig without the PA, regardless of whether everything is going through it or not?
can a band gig without a drum kit or a bass amp or a guitar amp? if it's purely the singer using it then yes it's up to the singer to provide it, but I suspect there's not that many bands like that, which complicates things
13.
Erm, excuse me! Unless you are putting everyone thru the pa, surely the pa is the singers responsibility, or at least he should contribute more?
tricky, depends how much the rest of the band uses the PA, we decided to get a PA out of bands funds like I said, but I did draw the line at the singer getting a wireless mic out of band funds!
14. Our case is a bit complicated, the band bought the PA out of band funds then 2 members left, me and the singer agreed a price with them and bought out their share of the PA so me and the singer now own it, we split gig money equally but if anything needs repairing it comes out of band funds, like someone else said, what ever works for your band, oh yeah, the PA is split between the 4 members regarding storage and transportation
15. We do get accused of being too loud sometimes in a small pub, but we don't mic the drums up, so short off sacking the drummer because hits them too hard there's not a lot we can do about it, I'm left shaking my head in disbelief when I see a band micing up the drum kit for a pub gig
16. guitarist or guitar player? usually guitarist, so definitely bass player
17.
I agree with him about jazz. I hate it. I hate rap and hip hop too.
I'm with you timmo, except maybe Take 5 the odd Kenny Ball song and Fight for your right to party, not sure that counts as rap or hip hop, hell I don't even know the difference between rap and hip hop, is there one? Always like Noel's interviews, he doesn't take himself too seriously, and anybody that does takes themselves far too seriously
18. I've got one and the bridge is 'bowed' as you say, I always assumed is was to follow the radius of the neck, you can get new bridges for them, just search for Gibson 3 point bridge, can't say I'm a fan of them because you can't adjust string height individually
19. I started playing again in my early 50's and if someone had told me I'd still be doing it 12 years later I'd have said they were mad, but I still am and intend to carry on for a few more years yet, if you're physically up to it why not? and at my time of life I've got more time, and more money to spend on gear, it's great to be honest. Oh yeah and a partner that gives you support instead of grief helps a lot.
20.
I think that comes under the heading of "accidentally accurate".
lol, that's the trouble with relying on spell checker
21.
The busiest pubs I see routinely are Wetherspoons who not only don't put bands on, they don't even do background muzak. Obviously their strategy is to sell drinks at low prices and it works for them but I think it's also symptomatic that pub culture is generally changeing. There will always be some specific music oriented venues but the days of every street boozer corner having a turn on every Saturday is rapidly becoming a thing of the past. I wouldn't particularly look to the next generation to change that either. Half of them spend more on fancy coffees looking at their phones than they do beer and socialising with real people. But I'm just a middle aged out of touch git.
yep this is true, the cultures changing, a lot of people go to the pub to drink real ale (you can't get that at a supermarket) and have a chat, the story goes that Tim 'Wetherspoons' Martin, got the idea when he was at Nottingham University, he got frustrated because he couldn't find a quiet pub to have a drink of good beer in, so he started Wetherspoons, there's still a market for pubs with music but not on the scale it used to be
22.
There are an increasing number of bands chasing a decreasing audience.
agree with the deceasing audience (and Venues) not sure about the increasing bands though
23. try this link http://www.21frets.com/catalogs/Smx.pdf Trace Elliot hi fi sound? wouldn't have said that, I might about class D amps
24.
Bigot = "a person who is intolerant towards those holding different opinions"
must remember to tell our singer he's a bigot, he thinks that anybody that votes UKIP is a ****
25.
Probably the most worrying question is Why are there so few young bands playing pubs?
because not enough young people go in Pubs? not encouraged are they? a friends 17 year old daughter likes to come and see the band I play in (with her Dad), half the time she can't get in the pub, never mind no under 18's most of them have a no under 21's rule, she is the exception though, most youngsters seem more interested in Video games, and why not? nothing stays the same
