How to repair a corner crack on a fender hardcase?
PaulWarning replied to nash's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've noticed a small one in mine too, I had success using Araldite on a Stingray case -
I think a lot of people think the song is called Gordon is a Moron
this is true, philistines -
I bought a second Trace Elliot because I'd forgotten why I'd sold the first one. I have now learnt my lesson, so won't be getting a third one until I've bought another Precision, somewhere round when hell freezes over.
my ideal combination, and one I use all the time, funny old world, don't you think?
Ramones. Although the song was actually called R.A.M.O.N.E.S. Bit of an odd one as it was actually a cover of a Motorhead song from the '1916' album which Lemmy wrote in tribute to the band which they then started performing themselves towards the end of their career. Edit: and here it is, with a guest appearance from the man himself.
marvellous, it's a lot more common than you would imagine, Pennywise -
I'm pretty sure if you are running a GK NEO can of a standard head you will need the 4 wire lead. I tried a standard 2 wire speakon into my neo from a markbass head and got nothing. After a brief panic attack, a 1/4 Jack lead solved the problem!
and 4 wire speakon plugs won't even go into a 2 wire speakon socket, as I found out when replacing the sockets in a PA speaker

and I've just reread my x factor comment, it did come across a bit stronger than I intended. -
never fancied old basses just because they're old, I think why should they be better than something that's had years of development, same with classic cars, poor heater no air con, power steering etc etc, but I've recently got into Trace Elliot amps for some reason they just sound better than my Fender Rumble, to me anyway, and they certainly look better
Never got to see The Clash, and in my early years as a devoted Pistols fan never wanted to. Only learned to appreciate them a few years after they`d split. Some great songs, but some pretty awful ones too. But imo that`s not an issue, I don`t have to listen to the awful ones, and love the great ones.
this is also my situation, I did get to see Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros at Rock City though and they did a few Clash songs London Calling and Safe European Home to name but two, I liked all the first album most of the second and some of London Calling which is more than an awful lot more than a lot of bands I've checked out. If you don't like the Clash that's fair enough, we all have our own tastes, but I wouldn't go on a thread about Funk and Dance slagging off that music because it's not my thing, as someone on here said "there's no bad music just music I like and music I don't" -
I have had 2 v m j 's and they were both heavy, the natural finish was over 10lb the sunburst one was lighter but was at least 9lb they both sounded great though ... The natural had a maple body but the sunburst was something else although i'm not sure what
having looked at some specs it does indeed look like the Sunburst ones are basswood and natural are maple, the only two they do in cack handed, (I think) don't like sunburst myself but if you want a light one that seems to be the road to go down
One of the most overrated bands of all time IMO. Two or three good tunes, but Joe Strummer can't sing to save himself. Tuneless caterwauling.
the same could be said of a lot of people, Paul Weller anybody? if you want to listen to people with good singing voices and no character stick to X factor -
I've got my hands on a very nice Squier VM Jazz (lefty) I'm after something that sounds like a Fender Modern Jazz which aren't available in a cack handed version, I started a thread about them http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 Anybody had any experience of Seymour Duncan Apollo pickups that are stacked humbuckers for a Jazz, would I need 2 or just the bridge pickup? are they similar as a normal humbucker?
I used to be the Technical Manager there and left about 13 years ago. Before that I was the Centre Stage engineer. One of the reasons I left was that they were becoming obsessed with SPL levels and Noise in the Workplace regs - trying to apply regs designed for machine shops into a live music environment. Their options were to give FOH staff (bar staff etc) hearing protection, or turn it down - they were trying for the latter when I left. I once walked into the Reds venue to find a colleague trying to mix to an SPL meter that a manager had shoved in his hand and threatened to discipline him with if he didn't keep levels to 90dBSPL. I had to show him that if he shut the PA off, the level was still over 90dB, because the guitarist had his amp cranked on stage, pointing straight at him. Add to this, Butlins has usually been a bit of a training school, not just for Redcoats, but for engineers, techs etc too, especially due to the location and low wages. You would get some talented, eager to learn young people there, but you would also get some rubbish ones too. Also, as sound is subjective, you, and many bands may think your sound is good, but you also get a lot of critics. Add into the mix bands showing up being way too loud on stage, asking for stupid monitoring, then it can also cause massive variances. I would add that in all my years of doing it, I was never aware of any bands being intentionally given bad sound because of bill rating, although I did hear a few stories of guys doing it because the bands had been hostile to them. I never did this, because it wasn't in my interest to ever give punters a bad gig, although I have been known to cause feedback through a monitor in a soundcheck because the prima donna singer was claiming his mic wasn't on...."sounds like it is working to me..." I have had headliners refuse to have their backline moved before even though the venue stage was not big enough to have two on it in a "don't they know who we are" kind of way - we also ignored them and moved it when they weren't looking! As I've said many times before, there can be a raft of reasons why it can be one gig sounding totally different from the next, and it is not always the sound person's fault. However, they could just be nasty or s**t.
cheers for that, good to get an insiders point of view, I know a sound engineer who does the' turn up the monitor trick' for guitarists who won't turn down their stack
Some great advice on here thanks. I've had various wattage rigs over the years and always thought my old 350w Trace felt just as powerful as my SVT4 so the post about wattage makes sense. I'm currently in a transition of changing my setup so this is greatly appreciated, ta
Everybody knows Trace Elliot watts are twice as loud as anybody else's, my TE 250watt head is louder than my Fender Rumble 500watt
-
depends on ohms and stuff like that, I presume with 2 cabs you're running at 4 ohms, I'd settle for a 500 watt head at 4 ohms, plenty loud enough for a medium size venue and you'd still be ok to use just your 500 watt cab if you wanted, basically if it's starting sound distorted you speakers will probably blow, well that's my opinion anyway, unlikely though with that amount of power on tap

Ah, the law of diminishing returns, there's a lot of self delusion going on, if you've paid a lot more for it it must be better, I've been as guilty as anyone, who wants to admit, especially to ourselves that we've wasted our money? one of the benefits of having less than perfect hearing is that I no longer suffer from it
Yes great basslines - I recall sitting in A level histoiry writing out the track list in our essay folders with my best buddy after we'd heard stuff on John Peel the night before - What's the opinion on whether Simenon played all of those lines - I heard and read bits and bobs over the years that Mick Jones played them - or at least some
I read somewhere that Norman Watts played on some of them -
*1980 in America.
yeah but it's a good story and as a sweeping generalisation, you might say it goes to show good music stopped at the end of the 70's -
I've just bought a lefty second hand and it's 10 Ibs, that's me weighing myself first then again while holding it, heavier than my P, just, fortunately it doesn't bother me, they do very a lot though I've had one before, and this one is a different beast, far better neck and seems heavier as far as I can remember, I think this one is an older model than my previous one

As the natural ones have the grain on show they tend to be a heavier wood than the painted ones which I think are/were basswood? I had a natural one which was over 10 pounds I seem to remember.
both mine were natural finish so this could be correct

took me a while to appreciate it, still prefer the first two Clash albums to be honest, a little bit too eclectic for me, but a cracking record and bands do get criticised for not progressing, voted the best album of the 80's by Rolling Stone despite the fact it was released in 1979 lol -
The PA at Skegness was changed a few years ago. The sound directly in front of the stage is usually very good. At the same time, the sound at the sides of the stage near the bar is absolutely terrible, whether its bands or pre recorded music. We've been 10 years on the bounce for the weekends to watch and the last few years has been a real change. I'm guessing, but I bet its so the staff can hear the bar orders better at the bar.
while where you are standing has a big effect in the example I gave about In from the Jam and then the Sex Pissed Dolls I was in exactly the same position, the sound couldn't have been more different
-
Was that the one in Skegness at start of October, Paul? If so we played there on the Friday (we were on the Introducing Stage, and won the competition entry to the Main Stage next year).
yes, I don't remember seeing you, but I could have done, the sound on the introductory stage was very mixed as well, first day my mate went up to the fat controller (you had to be there) and asked him if he thought the guitar was loud enough, he said yes but turned it up anyway, again overly loud bass drum and muddy sound but some bands were better than others, guess it's down to how well you play as well, we've booked again for next year and applied to play as well, a bit of interest after seeing our vids but not heard anything further, fingers crossed
-
went to the Butlins Punk weekend this year and the difference between the main acts and supports was startling, in from the Jam had a suburb sound next band on was the Sex Pissed Dolls, bloody awful overly loud bass drum and muddy loads of echo/reverb, felt sorry for them people were walking out saying how crap they were, I put it down to the main acts had their own sound men, the rest were using Butlins in house sound guys who clearly didn't know what they were doing
