1. no problem it was a good night, we'll do it again sometime
 2.
Cheers. The interwebz don't reveal too much about either gear-wise (mics in particular). JT Soar looks fairly basic, but this could be entirely wrong. First Love a little less so and his CV looks pretty good too. 'Creative live recording' sounds about right to me. I'll talk it over. Any idea what kind of ballpark rates we'd be talking. Don't want to waste the guy's time after all.
Random charge £175 a day, but you can negotiate with him, depending on how many days you're booking, he's a nice guy as well (and his name is Guy)
 3. cynically old me, I wonder what she's expecting off you? if she says nothing and you get her nothing you could be in big trouble and if you spend the same as her what's the point? I know I know pragmatism to a fault, sorry for being such a miserable bastard
 4.
You can still vote for the 3 you hate the least! BTW, I hardly put any work in to mine, so slag away, I really don't mind this time!
ok I've found the 3 to vote for, I don't hate them, it just stuff that doesn't interest me, having said that, I'm not keen on open myself up for public ridicule, so fair play to them
 5. it's difficult, basschaters don't like to slag off someone else's hard work, so if you can't say something nice say nothing at all, none of them are my cup of tea, sorry
 6. we used Random (http://www.random-recordings.co.uk/) for our last album, Verbal Warning - Red Star Radio, it's on spotify if you want to have a listen, which by consensus turned out well, in fact we're booked in to record our next album there in a few weeks, very reasonable pricing as well, the one criticism I have is that it does seem to take him a long time to do the mixes, he also makes a decent fist of the final mastering as well which keeps costs down, I would imagine BigRedX will be along shortly, he's had more experience than I have of recording studios
 7.
Blitzkrieg Bop - it's a tough one to f**k up
yeah we start with that, message on intent being a Punk, mostly covers band, although different members at different times (me included) have been known to forget the stop towards the end
 8.
Cheers. I have issues with Facebook scripts and can't watch them in real time due to my script blocker. Have you a download site that does not pester please?
try here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjmPz2u6XVKsFdC8QJMCyxg
 9.
Yes. It isn't something I'm comfortable with yet. I would have loved to have played some of the songs that I've practised as play alongs, just to bring them to life. Out of my list of 21 songs, none of them were familiar enough to the singer/guitarist for him to feel comfortable so I tried to brace his songs as best I could with very rudimentary lines. Lots of bum notes, odd moments of blind panic, that sort of thing. The "audience" was a party of three; two women celebrating their friend's 72nd birthday with shots! At one point the old girl was doing the Can-can from her seat. I am so grateful that she wasn't facing the stage. For me the "discomfort", for want of a better word, is exactly why I'm doing it. At 54, if I don't take my axe out the bedroom now, I ain't never gonna get no wood chopped.
If you want to check out our FB page https://www.facebook.com/PaulandWendyWarning77/ there's 3 videos of us 'performing' at open mics, if it's your thing we could perhaps have a go at meeting up at an open mic, no Thin Lizzy I'm afraid
 10.
Cheers chaps. It was a quiet night. Only a handful of people there. January bites. Although I had my own kit with me and I had turned up before time, the music had started early and so I didn't feel it wise to set up while the stage was occupied. I got called up to play the "house" bass. It was a Fender P of some description or other and I didn't really have any affinity with it. I stood and played for a bit with the singer-guitarist organiser but we didn't have any common ground on song titles. No matter. The twelve bar blues served well enough. Chatting afterwards we've arranged a few numbers to have in hand for the next time there is a quiet night. It's a weekly thing so in fairness I should attend for at least a few weeks to get an idea of what the "busy" nights are like. More to come. Give it a week or two maybe.
you are a braver man than me, I'm way out of my comfort zone playing stuff on the fly, or 'winging it' they never seem to play songs that I know (how to play, that is), at these sort of Jam sessions the same songs do seem to crop up a lot
 11. DR Neons (green or pink), guage? whatever's cheapest, must admit can't tell the difference, but then I use a pick and it's probably all in the fingers
 12. let me know how it went, been thinking about trying this one out, I play acoustic guitar and my partner limited drums for open mics, got something else on tonight though
 13. depends entirely on what crowd are expecting, we are a punk (covers and originals) so none of the above, about the nearest we get is Ballroom Blitz, the Damned version. Stuff like Pretty Vacant and Ever Fallen in Love always go down well, basically Punk hits
 14. wasn't the SMX just the preamp? then they bolted on different power amps, I've sot a SMX 12 EQ with an AH200 power amp
 15.
Mickey Bradley, bassist from the Undertones, became a local BBC radio presenter. My mum sometimes gave him a lift to work.
yes but he still plays with the Undertones, always a great gig when I see them
 16. yep, keeps happening to me off and on, doesn't seem any pattern to apart from it's always on Basschat
 17.
John Deacon reportedly gave up music altogether after Freddie Mercury died. And what about that guy in The Troggs who went into researching UFOs - or was that just the drugs? Personally, I can understand why people decide on such a big change, especially after being so successful as in Deacon's case. Life is short and it seems a shame to focus just on one thing, unless that's the only interest you have I guess. Nico Rosberg is another example (though not musical obviously) - has achieved what he wanted from one activity and decided to move on to new things.
the guy from the Troggs was Reg Presley had a keen interest in UFO corn circles but carried on performing with the Troggs till shortly before he died, AFAIK, saw them on a few occasions, always good fun, made a shed load of money when Wet Wet Wet had a huge hit with his song Love is All Around
 18. Fergal Sharkey, after leaving the Undertones and a short solo career, didn't leave the music industry, but worked for some Government QUANGO to do with the industry bit never performed again AFAIK
 19.
According to most advice these days one simply can't gig or even jam without at least all of 400+ watts
well I manage quite easily with 200 watts, I'm coming to the conclusion that class D watts aren't as loud as what has gone before, or it could be they lack 'heft' and just don't sound as loud, no doubt someone with a lot more expertise and knowledge won't agree with me, but that's been my (limited) experience
 20.
Lots of people live in small apartments with no storage space, thin walls and have neighbors really close by. Those people tend to live in big cities where they have to use public transport to get to gigs and carry everything by hand, and many of those gigs are in tiny venues where loudness and power are not much of an issue as sound quality. As long as they sound good, they should do well with these.
I would have thought a light weight combo would have been a better bet under those circumstances, no amp to carry or store at all
 21.
I've got no arms so why don't you man up?

I love macho posturing, it always makes me laugh.
sorry lads, thought people would realise my tongue was in my cheek by that point
 22. must admit I don't understand this preoccupation with light weight heads, cabs yes, but heads no, I've got a 200 watt TE SMX head that weights 13Kg, easy one hand lift, even my missus can carry it, come on lads man up
 23. a badly run pub stands out a mile when posters advertising gigs that have gone are still up, amateurs, same with out of date facebook pages, it's not rocket science is it?
 24. sounds like what I've got, it was diagnosed as Arthritis I also have trouble gripping things (like undoing jar lids), doesn't effect my playing too much (I play with a pick) and fortunately hasn't got any worse recently, the specialist said they could never tell how bad it's going to get, might not get any worse, but it's very common in somebody my age (60+), thanks Doc, I just take a couple of paracetamol when it gets worse than usual
 25.
The pedal looks useful, not sure about the head, okay as a home practice amp? Unless that's true TE watts. Bring out the big guns please. I want power. Heavy TE power.
yeah if it's old TE watts it'll be more like anybody else's 500 watts, but a class D? I'd be very (pleasantly) surprised
