after about 15 years of use, and well over 500 gigs, we've just managed to blow one of the bass drivers in the Titans, just wondering on the likelihood of the other one going, it's a bit tricky deciding whether we're putting too much power through them as they're rated at 400 watts RMS and the Yamaha is rated at 350 watts at 8ohms and 500 at 4 ohms but doesn't give any info on whether these are RMS figures. We daisy chain the front of house speakers so the amp is giving out potentially 500 watts (4 ohms) but with 2 speakers I'm assuming that they get 250 watts each so we shouldn't be overloading them, correct? If we're not overloading them what else causes bass drivers to go? The PA is used for Vocals and bit of bass drum

Talking of Paul Simon, Mrs Robinson made no sense till I found out it was written about Mrs Roosevelt, the President's wife, they needed a song for the Graduate, so he just changed the name without changing the lyrics, idle sod -
Zoom B1on user, I have a B1 four but prefer the B1on, only use various distortion and eq

Truly terrible covers of the good and the great

there you go, opinions, love the version and the bass line, it's almost playing the lead, we play it regularly, always goes down well -
Did someone really pay £600 for a Squier Affinity?

what's the point of that, am I missing something? -

I always think it's wise to start these sort of comments with IMO, a smiley helps as well -

yep, to be a worthwhile cover it should be radically different from the original, otherwise what's the point? -

I think we've had a "Worst cover version ever" thread as well, can't be arsed to look for it though, I seem to remember Mr Cocker getting a mention -

Very much a matter of opinion, I like Joe Cocker's version, one of the few Beatle covers I prefer to the original. Can't stand Stevie Wonder's version of We Can Work It out, but then again I don't like most of what he's done. Now where is that tin hat? -
this is true, I wouldn't be without my hearing aids, as an experiment the other day I used my Fender V2 (2 x 8) to play music through via my Hi Fi, while I won't be replacing my normal speakers with it the tweeter made a big difference then, but I can't tell any difference when playing my bass though it, (even with my hearing aids in 😄)
-
I've got a couple of Fender V2 cabs with a similar set up, I have the tweeter off but tbh it's makes bugger all difference whether they're on or off, a tweeter on a bass cab seems like a waste of time to me ymmv

Dreaded string buzz-re-fret or fret dress?
PaulWarning replied to bassjim's topic in General Discussion
forgive my ignorance in these matters, but aren't worn frets obvious when the end of finger nail is dragged across them? New stings always buzz more, I use DR neon's and after a few hours there's very noticeable wear at the place where they hit the frets -
depends what sort of band you are, IMO it's no good trying to please everybody, people get bored with the stuff they don't like, focusing (more or less) on one genre and you'll attract that sort of crowd, for instance Ska is very popular. I'm in a punk band, but we do stray into heavy rock (whole lotta Rosie) and the novelty songs are popular, Jilted John and Nellie the Elephant, basically people love to sing a long and dance, I'm talking about pub gigs btw

Parcelforce now off my christmas card list
PaulWarning replied to Yan_Huriey's topic in General Discussion
I hadn't heard of them, so thanks for the heads up, but if you're selling a £200 Bass, it's a big chunk to pay out for delivery, and the buyer isn't the one taking the risk, still, it's good to know -

I've never come across a courier that will insure instruments that aren't in a hard case if they'll insure them at all. It must be unusual for this type of thing to happen otherwise the online sellers of guitars and basses wouldn't send them in a carboard box, which they do, all the time. I suppose it's up to the individuals attitude to risk as to whether send guitars and basses this way, I've sent a few and got away with it, if I hadn't I'd have taken the hit, I knew it was a possibility -
there's a few threads on this subject, here's one

they're better now they've got the original bassist back, bass players do make a difference 🙂, saw them at Stone Valley last year, Jake doesn't look good tbh, and those shirts don't help 😂
-
if you're an anomaly , I'm at too 😂
-
that certainly used to be the case, but less and less people even have a CD player these days, in my (very limited) experience, there has been a marked decline in people buying CD's after a gig in the last couple of years. The band were discussing online this morning about writing some new original material, I pointed out (me being the misery guts of the band) that were unlikely to recoup the cost of recording and production because of poor CD sales, everybody went very quiet
-
yes, we're finding that as well, they keep coming back for T shirts, they got a finite life, not so CD's or other forms of music carriers
-
I'm reasonably friendly with an originals band, who make a thing out of collectable vinyl, singles in different colours, that sort of thing, they travel all over the place doing gigs and admit they don't really recover costs, they view it as a promo tool
-
we obtained some download codes via Bandcamp, you get about 100 free(might be more can't remember), NOBODY asked for one with the CD's we sold. But you are right CD sales have fallen through the floor, vinyl is cost prohibitive for smaller runs, and if our experience is anything to go by, popularity is exaggerated, don't get me started on streaming, we get about 500 streams a month for which get about £1.50. All in all it's very difficult to make a case for recording and releasing music, unless you're happy to make a loss on it
