1.
Said bloke I work with has his bid in - I reckon a bargain will be gotten.
I'd be tempted if it was a black one, got a soft spot for maple fingerboards, don't like sunburst finish though
2. just a few hours left, is someone going to get a bargain if it is genuine?
3. yep, I afraid it's the fashion at the moment (hopefully it'll change) loads of bass drum, which should provide the really low end, which means there's no room for the bass so it gets EQ'd to where the bass drum should be IMO, the best way to hear drums is with no micing up at all and this is how it should sound when you've got to amplify it, PA's are supposed to just make everything louder not alter the characteristics of the instruments
4.
They always annoyed me for some reason, due no doubt to a stupid sneering teenage disdain on my part for things that other people liked, but I taped this off John Peel and always thought it was flippin' ace, the lyrics and energy and everything. https://www.youtube....h?v=kIaHNUfajcQ
I could never get into the Smiths, not heard that track before, you're right it's very good, maybe I should give them another go, I do like some of Morrisey's solo stuff, always thought was singing more on that and not just wailing
5.
At the very least you can treat it as a free rehearsal, and it will be something to tell your grandchildren. Often the "challenging" gigs are the ones that you remember when you've racked up several hundreds over the years
free rehearsals? we've had quite a few of those over the years, and it's true about remembering the bad ones, a few years ago we were booked for a originals gig on a Monday night, well there was my partner there and a barman, and being the mugs we are my partner shouted more at the end of the gig as a joke, so we did another one, we still tell the story on a regular basis
6. I think we'd have probably stayed and done the gig, having already been there, especially as it was only your 4th gig, at the very least you should have all gone or all stayed, and seeing as some (most?) of the band stayed I think perhaps you should have as well, but then again I wasn't there so it's difficult to make a judgement tbh
7. I've found that it's very easy for something to sound better when boosting EQ simply because it's louder, louder nearly always sounds better that's another reason why it's better to cut the frequencies you don't want rather than boost the ones you do. So for instance if you're after a scooped sound just cut the centre frequencies more and leave the others flat
8. I'm afraid some people are just crap at business, communication is the key in everything, I always reply to any messages I get it's just common courtesy, I recently needed a plumber so looked in the local free paper and rang a plumber twice got the answering machine and left messages to ring me back as I'd a plumbing job for him and heard nothing at all, some people just shouldn't be in business at all they've not got the necessary skills
9. I had a Squire VM Jazz and got more clank from that than I do with my MIA P with the same set up and the same strings, don't no why, made no sense to me, anyway I got rid of it in the end
10. They may rerecord some of them but the originals can go on to be big hits, so they can rerecord any of my songs any time they want, for free
11.
Except that most songs for ads are re-recordings with sound-alike musicians so the only ones benefiting are the song writers. More reason than ever to concentrate on your songwriting skills.
working on a new CD as we speak, we like to have a foot in both camps
12. the way it's going TV ads will be the only way bands make money from recordings, at least the ad is worth watching with a decent backing track, which I is the idea, when the band are discussing new songs to cover, one will get the thumbs up because "Yeah Joe Public will know that one it was used in and advert".Anything that exposes the public to different music is good isn't it? I can do Blitzkrieg Bop at open mic now
13. bullying is not the way to get the best out of people, you just make the terrified of making a mistake, which will probably lead to them making more mistakes, ( I know, my first job had a bullying boss fortunately he dropped dead with a heart attack) what a thoroughly nasty man, Rich and my old boss
14.
It does concern me how music is generally listened to these days from a bass perspective. Cheap TV speakers, mobiles, tablets and laptops. None of which bring out any bass. My nephew who loves listening to music plays it all through his tablet in his bedroom. He's totally oblivious to the lack of bass.
on the plus side, that's why live music sounds so much better
15. the mix on most modern recordings (and a lot of older ones) is drum heavy bass light, I was listening to Status Quo's Quo album the other day, now that's a bass players mix, funny thing is when they do a 'digital remaster' they bring the bass up, the Beatles and the Clash are 2 examples I've come across
16.
In my rock covers band, I use a pick if the original song was played with a pick. I try to keep the sound close to the original as I can. However, the last gig I played, I forgot my picks and played the whole set fingerstyle. TBH, nobody noticed.
about the only time I've noticed a big difference between pick and fingers was when the bassist was using a Rick, fingers it sounded ok tbh, then he played a couple of songs with a pick, clank clank clank, but then again Macca played one with a pick and he sounded ok
17. don't know really, lots of the best bassists use picks, Macca, Carol Kaye, J J Burnel to name but 3, but most bassists seem to use finger style maybe that's it, I've always used a pick because most punk players seem to use a pick. I started as a guitarist, that's got something to do with it, although perversely I have learned finger picking on acoustic, though still have no wish to do so on a bass. To answer your question I think most bass players are cool with whichever way you play and a lot can do both
18. there's a thread going at the moment about the Behringer BDI21, it's a very cheap option
19.
. I'm not bothered about the sound at home. I'm practising so the important bit is getting the fingers and brain around the new part and not what it sounds like.
this, when I practice at home I plug into my laptop and use headphones and play along to tracks, if needed I use audacity to slow stuff down, change key, and work things out
20.
Is the overall opinion tipping towards "disappointing" rather than "positive"?
it's a good pedal for £20, adds a bit of overdrive which I like, and works as a DI box if you think you'll need it, but I'll keep using my Zoom B1on which does the same thing and a lot more besides, but I'll be keeping it, you never know when it'll come in handy, so a positive I suppose
21.
I mean it! The examples in the instructions are for the guitar version.
there you go courtesy of tauzero https://media.music-group.com/media/PLM/data/docs/P0294/BDI21_P0294_M_EN.pdf the instructions in the box are a complete f*** up
22. to be fair bass overdrive circuits do get fuzzy when turned up, I've got a Rumble 500 with an overdrive section, that sounds bloody awful IMO anyway
23. no, that's what a volume control is for, I sometimes use mine at low volumes it sounds fine, it's not like you've got valves to overdrive is it? IMO the only reason to get a 100 is size (not weight, but the 500 can be a bit bulky) and price, if nether one is a particular problem I say go for the 500
24.
Mine arrived today. I'm a bit worried I've got a duff one as the drive knob does very little - it seems to act as a volume control until the very last turn of the knob when a heavy (and quite unpleasant) farty overdrive kicks in. Surely this isn't normal?
mines the same now you mention it
25.
The printed sheet that comes with the pedal has the sample settings for the lead guitar version, but the online PDF on the Beringer website has the bass settings.
right, that clears that up then, thanks, bit naff though, how much effort is required to enclose the right instruction sheet?
