1.

well judging by the number of threads and the length of them the Beatles may not have been the best, most innovative, influential, etc etc, band in the world ever but I don't think anybody can argue that they are the most talked about band on Basschat
2. once saw a programme about bands breaking up and one guy said something like "the reason bands break up is because nobody ever says what's really pissing them off early enough and it just festers till there's a big argument and it results in a break up" in my limited experience that is true, so I resolved to tell people as politely as possible when something is annoying me with my new band, it's worked so far
3. probably the easiest member to replace in any band is the rhythm guitarist, 10 a penny
4. yep, my rumble is the same, I always have my input gain turned all the way up (passive bass), it's a mild input gain which really is the way it should be, they're meant to level out signals from the bass not act as a volume control
5. all I can say is, be thankful you're cack handed like me
6. I learnt by playing along to records I really like, just start off playing the root (fortunately I like the Ramones, all root note stuff) I find playing bass on it's own is not the most rewarding thing in the world, don't try and get too technical to start with, just enjoy it
7.
The Beatles were a very popular group. Lots and lots of people still like them. There is a place that those people can go where there is lots of stuff about that group that they can see. That's a good thing. Those places employ quite a lot of people. That's also a good thing. Just because they go and see the place dedicated to the old band doesn't mean that they only listen to old music. (I like the old band and I still like new music) The Beatles were an important band who changed the Art form that we are all a part of. Liverpool should be proud of that. Musicians from Liverpool have moved on, but the Beatles are still an influence and will always be important. (If you like Shakespeare, you go to Stratford-Upon-Avon. No one complains that Stratford-Upon-Avon should "get over" Shakespeare, because he is important). You don't have to like The Beatles, but they were important. And lots of people still like them. I like them. That's why some people go to Liverpool. You don't have to go, if you don't want to. And I think that's OK.
I think that would be a great end of this thread, hopefully. Mods, get the lock in, quick
8. I'm from Nottingham and we still capitalise on Robin Hood, on that basis Liverpool have got another thousand years of tourist gold ahead of them
9.
That's what tell the tourists...the Beatles probably had a pint most of the old pubs at some point. Next time try Ye Crack In The Wall where Lennon used to drink... says my mum. Or try the Philharmonic pub... according to local legend Hitler used to drink there.
the picture on the wall of the Beatles drinking there has wallpaper in the background, when they were doing a refit of the pub they found the same wallpaper under some cladding, which is now behind perpex just above where I'm sitting, I'm sure they did drink in other pubs but how many pictures are there of them doing it? well I was convinced
10. bit sad I know, but my favourite bit of my Liverpool trip was having a pint in the Grapes at the same table as the Beatles had
11. yeah for sure Liverpool has more to offer than the Beatles, and when I went I did other stuff but I'd have never gone in the first place without the draw of the Beatles, but, then again I'm of that generation, I believe there's an American guy who comments on here who is of a similar age
12.
Why don´t you just ship it to him? I´m sure it will only cost 10 pounds.., If you´re interested, I´d be more than happy to participate in the shipping costs in order to help a fellow bass player get a bass!
I'm afraid my generosity only extends to handing it over on my door step
13. I've been to Liverpool to do the Beatles thing, had a really enjoyable weekend, visiting all the Beatle related sites, didn't spend a lot either, stopped at the Travel Lodge :-)
14.
Zero. There's no option for zero. Hopefully it won't be zero for ever but I had to sell my last bass during the summer to pay the rent. Still got a bass cube 30 under the stairs. I stalk the classifieds looking for something like a natural westone thunder around £100, (so if you've got one languishing under the bed.... nudge, wink, nudge, hint, etc).
silly me, what a pratt I am, assuming that anybody who used this site had a least one bass, shame you live in Plymouth, I've got an Encore bass you could have for nothing, because that's what it is worth (as mentioned earlier I found it leaning against a dustbin)
15. bloody hell, I've got a TE 300 watt combo, but I think they forgot the anti gravity treatment for it, I've only used it once at a gig before deciding my back couldn't take the punishment, just got hold of a TE 1x 15 300 watt cab, I'm going to have to renew my search for a TE head after reading this thread, you bastards
16.
Anyone played one of these with an extension cab other than a fender one? Tempted by the SWR 18" on sale here, placed under one of the rumbles.
I use a TE 1 x 15 (weighs 26kg so not too bad, and TE handles are excellent) under the Rumble 500, exactly the same width so looks neat, and more rock and roll than an angled stand I was using, I've only used it once, it did give a lot more headroom, I've never run out of volume without the ext cab but have been close. (our drummers a bit of an animal). I too have a 300 watt Trace Elliot combo and the Rumble is not as loud as that (Trace Elliot watts are twice as loud as anybody else's), but it's just too bloody heavy to cart around
17. I've just realised I'm up to 4 now I've bought a Squier VM Jazz, mind you 2 of them I only keep because they're not worth selling, a battered Hondo and an Encore that I found leaning against a dustbin
18. I'm surprised any music shops are left open who don't do internet sales, people use the internet because it's cheaper (and more convenient a lot of the time) so they cut costs be employing spotty faced youths on the minimum wage who don't know what they're talking about, being a lefty I can't remember the last time I went into a music shop, oh yeah I can, wanted a combo stand, neither one had what I wanted so I got one from Amazon. Whenever I even look into the window of one all I see are cheap starter guitars and basses but am still amazed at how much money is tied up in stock (I assume they have to pay for it when it's delivered and not when they sell it) I used to run a newsagent they're all closing down as well, and pubs, if there's insufficient demand, it means they're not wanted and they'll close down,
19. 11800 with headphones, doesn't mean a thing, my hearing is shagged have to have hearing aids but my drop off is around the 3-4k hz, in fact the tone disappeared at these frequencies then came back again, hearing damage is not just about high fequencies, the test twincam mentioned is a far better test for hearing test for damage
20. I had a stingray, then bought a P, sold the stingray kept the P, just couldn't get the sound I wanted out of a Ray, that's just my experience anyway. Saw a rock covers band in the local pub the other week, he was playing a Ray, it sound absolutely awful, God knows what his settings were but all I could hear was clang clang clang with a bit of rumble thrown in, I felt like telling him, but just left he'd probably just think I was an interfering twat and ignore me, maybe it's what he wanted to sound like, takes all sorts, completely ruined Radar Love for me
21. has it? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TENNESSEE-15-STRING-EXTENDED-RANGE-BASS-/291674941903?
22.
MMM we'll see but maybe this is just about it for the Mighty Quo. I've had the pleasure of meeting both Rhino Edwards (finger player, therefore poncy) , the new bassist who joined 30 years ago, and also Alan Lancaster ( pick player, therefore proper) the original bassist
head nail hit, they were never the same with Rhino on bass, a fine player I believe, but just not right for Quo, although Quid Pro Quo and Heavy Traffic were good albums
23.
Was lucky enough to see them last February at a private 70th birthday party as a surprise for a friend of my Dad's. Apparently the birthday boy's wife paid just short of £300k for 45 mins. Worth every penny though. Bloody brilliant
£300,000 for a 45 minute set, no wonder they can afford to retire
24. one of my favourite lines, is "Before Punk all we had was Status Quo" when talking to younger mates who are slagging them off because all they know about is there god awful covers albums and that bloody awful record, (the start of their decline) 'rocking all over the world', not quiet true but you should know what I mean, their albums up to Rocking all over the world just rocked. Saw their original line up tour a couple of years ago, brilliant, shame they fell out with Alan Lancaster (one of the bassist who made me want to play bass) but I suspect he could see the way it was going
25. it says he's had 6 inquiries, is that people already telling him the obvious?
