Dee Dee was a fan of the Bay City Rollers...
you saw the Rollers documentary as well then, I'm not sure about the link with the Ramones TBH, but at least we got to see a Ramones clip

simple but very effective How Long by Ace

I'll add Segs from the Ruts, how he plays all downstrokes on Babylons Burning I really don't know. Oh yeah and he can do finger style as well

Recording band rehearsals with a portable recorder
PaulWarning replied to Wilco's topic in General Discussion
I know the quality might not be there but I just took my laptop along to rehearsals last week, recorded them using audacity and the laptops microphone did the job -
lets face it, us lot on here are going to enjoy any bass intro, UK Subs, Warhead. Does anybody know of a BAD bass intro?
-
nearly forgot, love playing this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-KTsXHXMkJA
I agree, that's why I'm using Barefaced Super Compacts these days. Only 21lbs each.
yeah, I've got a Fender Rumble 500 and keep toying with the idea of an extension cab at 20 KG it's still quite bulky though, no doubt I'll crack when I see a second hand one
-
I've got 2 112's and I generally use both but where only one cab is needed I still set up both cabs and just plug in the top one. Call me old fashioned but IMO a stack looks much better than a lonely cab on a stand!
couldn't agree more, it's humping them about that's the problem
-
punk seems to like bass intros, the Damned's Love Song is another one, oh yeah and Neat Neat Neat, let's be honest sometimes it's the only time you can hear the bass
-
not sure if that's a comment at my post JTUK, but just because I can't hear the guitar that distinctly doesn't mean the rest of the room can't, I like to hear what I'm playing clearly, if you can't is all to easy to fool yourself that you're playing well when you're not, TBH all I need to hear clearly is me and the drums, we lay the foundation. I've got a wireless set up and go to the back of the room at sound check to make sure everybody is heard as they should be
-
Another thing to try is a stand that angles the cab back a bit.
I've got one of those, it does make a difference, I can hardly hear the guitarist

Strange things I've heard on the radio to do with mixes
PaulWarning replied to MarkG3's topic in General Discussion
don't really agree with DAB radio sounding terrible, in the car anyway, the bass on Gold radio sounds amazing sometimes and you don't get the high fizz that is sometimes prevalent on FM, sometimes it's so bad I have to turn my hearing aids off -
-1. +1.
there you go then
We could have 1" speakers. If you put loads of 1" speakers in a 1 x 15 sized box it would work fine justb like a 1 x 15, but its much cheaper and simpler to just put a single 15" in there.
right, ok I get that and I understand about 2 x 10" nearly being the same area as a 1 x 15" ("1 x12" being more I think) and all things being equal like speaker throw being long enough a 2 x 10" or 12" will give as much grunt, but it's a lot easier (and cheaper) to get grunt out a 15" speaker than 2 x 10" speakers because the loudest frequency the speaker gives out will be lower in a 15" speaker, or of course, I could be talking a load of bollocks
-
must admit I don't get this speaker size doesn't effect depth argument, if that was the case we could all have 1" speakers couldn't we? I've always found a 15" has more grunt than a 10", limited experience granted
-
I've got a TE SMC 400 watt combo, love the sound but not the weight, I've also got a Fender rumble 500, when I ask which one sounds best I just get a bored look and a shrug of the shoulders, so I use the Fender

14 tips on how to be a succesful covers band
PaulWarning replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
There's a really interesting article here about the many reasons why bands and promoters don't get on. Its written by a guy who runs a fairly successful indie label here in Edinburgh: http://songbytoad.co...dont-get-along/ Interesting (if terrifying) reading.
who'd be a promoter eh? I know I wouldn't, it's bad enough being in a band -
14 tips on how to be a succesful covers band
PaulWarning replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
I think some venue owners should read it too.
anybody know if there's a article for venue owners about advertising gigs, some of them can't even be arsed to put up the posters we send them -
I've been doing open mic for a while started out on my own, just acoustic guitar and vocals, then my lady learnt basic drumming just a hi hat, snare and crash cymbal and it's taken it onto another level, so I would say on balance that drums while not being essential are certainly has it's advantages

14 tips on how to be a succesful covers band
PaulWarning replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
Some interesting points, and certainly many most bands i've worked with, or booked often forget, mainly they're there to sell drinks side of it.. .. It's obviously written from a US based rock bar type point of view.. (I've probably played 80%of the songs too)
I wait to hear from Blue then :-) -
interesting article http://hubpages.com/...-a-Working-Band I agree with most of it though the band I'm in only do 1 of his top 50 every covers band should know, oops
-
I've been to plenty gigs where the sound was bad and I think it's unfortunate if we brand the band as being poor just because of their sound although it does contribute to ruining your night. Some venues are inherently bad for sound and I've seen me take a rain check on some gigs purely cos I know where it is ( SECC, you know I'm talking about you)
I would have thought that main headliners would have there own sound man, I heard some shocking sound at Rock City and also some excellent sound, so it's not always the venue ( though sometimes is), if the band has a rubbish sound man that's their fault
-
I think I was at a gig in that tour Notts forest ground
that would be Nottingham Forest, it's Notts County, really gets under any Forest fans skin that does

Opening chords that send shivers down your spine
PaulWarning replied to colgraff's topic in General Discussion
Beatles - And Your Bird Can Sing. Not fussed about the song but the intro is sublime.
one of my favourite Beatle songs, and John Peels apparently -
Opening chords that send shivers down your spine
PaulWarning replied to colgraff's topic in General Discussion
an opening chord that does it, and probably the first time such an intro was used, though no doubt someone will be along very soon to prove me wrong, again, A Hard Days Night,
