I would really like them if it wasn't for that twatt!
Didn't he pick Cynthia to start with though?
yeah, that was his good taste period, Yoko was his twat period, personally I blame the drugs, apparently LSD has all sorts of long term disillusion effects, perhaps they ought to use him as an example of what drugs can do to you, "look who you could wake up with, every morning for the rest of your life if you overdo it" -
just bought a Trace Elliot with built in 'dual band compression' it certainly makes it louder but I can do that with the volume control so I'm not sure about it. But I also always use a little bit of overdrive which, I believe is a sort of compression

another Beatle was a bit of a twat as well, Lennon, I mean all the women in the world to choose from and he picks Yoko Ono, I rest my case M'Lord, on the whole, still much prefer his songs to Macca's though, so I can't say it put me off liking the Beatles, though his solo stuff is decidedly mixed -
Intonation - why are strings different lengths
PaulWarning replied to Dropzone's topic in General Discussion
On an acoustic stringed instrument the bridge is the mechanism by which the vibrations of the string are transferred to the soundboard and thereby amplified. Unfortunately the more adjustment you build into the bridge the less efficient it becomes as more of this transfer is lost.
right, that makes sense -
That's explained in the article linked above. The thicker the string core the more compensation is necessary. The plain B is thicker than the core of the wound G, so more compensation. Or something like that anyway.
right, but what I don't get is that only some acoustics have this type of bridge, and would it be so difficult to have adjustable saddles on an acoustic? -
What does it take for a pro musician to get work these days

I would imagine it's not what you know but who you know, word of mouth must be huge in the recording industry -
(I restrung my electro-acoustic bass, so now the intonation with the fixed bridge is terrible, but hey, my ears are not that good)
I've got the same trouble with mine as well, I have to have the B string slightly flat open to get the fretted notes right. Not bass related but intonation related, why do some acoustics have that saddle where the B string is further back than the others? -
When I was working at A Very Big Record Shop in Brum, Simple Minds did an in store for us, plugging their live double album. This was at the height of their pomp and every time I saw Jim Kerr on TV, my opinion of him dropped to an almost subterranean level. The band arrived and were whisked to the managers office for champagne and nibbles...Mr Kerr however, joined us in the staff room and had a cup of tea. No star trip, no ego. A lovely affable chap. I may never be a huge fan (although their first two or three records are ace), but my preconceptions were totally depth charged by 10 minutes in the man's company.
I think a lot of 'stars' just get totally pissed of with doing the round of interviews to plug a new record or whatever answering the same questions over and over is it any wonder they start to look bored and therefore up their own arses? -
I just do open and 12th fret. Some people like to do 5th and 17th frets but I haven't got all day.
surely if the open and 12th fret are right then if any of the others aren't it's a case of the frets not being right, as I've said before it really doesn't matter that much on a bass (unless you're playing chords) nobody's going to notice, I was once chatting to a double bass player and asking him how he managed without frets, his reply was "As long as you're somewhere near it doesn't really matter" -
Lot of money. Would being l/h make it more expensive? I once had a tidy '63 Watkins Rapier guitar which I got £250 for - that seemed to be a pretty good price. Jon.
bloody hell I've got a l/h Wilson Rapier, thought it was worth about 50 quid
-
I've got a left handed Wilkins/Wilson guitar, very very average, that's got a zero fret too, a good idea can't understand why more manufacturers don't use it
fortunately I don't like the Lost Prophets anyway, I really don't think I could forgive that, still like listening to the occasional Gary Glitter song though -

they've probably written 4 great songs, that's 3 more than a lot of bands, as for having them all in a set, it depends what audience you're aiming at, we've had up to 8 Clash songs in our set (of about 40 songs), nobody ever said that's too many songs form one artist -
when I watch something like this I realise why Punk Rock was invented
-
just watched an old Law and Order episode where a club went up in smoke with multiple death's because of over done band pyrotechnics, spooky huh?Although there's always a disclaimer at the beginning of every episode a lot of them are loosely based on true life events
I always have a few spares on the mic stand, but not excessive numbers... On a slightly related note, watched this video recently: http://www.musicrada...-his-rig-625040 If me eyes do not deceive me, those are Dunlop 0.6 and 0.73 picks that he holds at the end. Are these really considered heavy...?
I wouldn't have said so, I use .60mm for acoustic guitar but a 1mm for bass
-
I'm off to see the Bootleg Beatles with my partner in December, I've seen them before several times in the past but never with a left handed Macca
-
I've just bought Trace Elliot 300 watt combo off ebay for £130 the price on here was £180, also the comment "it's to heavy to deliver" is bollocks, I sold a Marshall MB4210 on ebay and got it delivered for £15, if you want the best price you've got to be prepared to put a bit of effort in and be willing to deliver it, if not except a lower price. Oh yeah, I know selling on Ebay is more expensive but it only costs when you sell it not before and you've got a lot bigger market
I occasionally use a pick and usually those 1mm black nylon Dunlops and they are hard to find when lost. My guitraist son uses the 0.94mm bright green ones which are much easier to find.
thanks for the tip, found some glow in the dark ones I found when looking for the green ones, should be easy to find when I drop one on that floral carpet pubs are so fond of using
-
Dunlop do good nylon picks.
yep, I use the black 1mm ones, never worn one out yet, keep losing the little buggers though
I remember seeing Anthrax years ago and the guitarist came back on at end of gig and emptied a bucket full of picks into audience. Bit daft really!
unless, your guitarist suggests you get a load of picks made with your band name on only to find out they break after half a song, we gave them away
