1. I've found a 6.3mm to mini jack will do the trick, obviously it depends on your sound card my onboard realtek one does the trick, it has a microphone boost setting,(which I didn't use on this recording) I use a Shure SM 58, here's something I've quickly knocked up using two mono 6.3mm jacks into a stereo mini jack plugged into the mic socket of my computer with no effects added at all, just a bass and mic plugged straight in. I should add, bass was recorded on the left channel and vocal on the right at the same time, then saved as a mono channel
2.
I don't know why the sound man had a problem with your DI signal unless he was trying to put it into a mic-level input.
that thought occured to me as well
3. back to the line out being only post everything, I've used it twice with a full PA first time, at a local venue with an in house PA, it was unusable, signal too high (according to the sound man) second time at Strummercamp this weekend no problems at all sound guy said everything was good, that was with gain at 12 o clock and master at 3 o clock, so go figure
4.
Its a broad church this bass playing, so long as you're making music and enjoying it all is good.
couldn't agree more, that was my point really, it's hard forcing yourself to play something you're not enjoying just so you can say you can do it, and if you don't enjoy that style of music you're probably not going to need it (unless you're a professional musician). I have the same problem with learning finger style, the majority of the music I enjoy is played with a pick, so I find it hard to motivate myself, I think "what's the point I'm hardly ever going to need it"
5.
Hope she enjoys this.
smug bastard, I'll never learn double thumbing, why? because I don't want to
6. just watched it after reading this thread, we're all different aren't we? was completely underwhelmed by Lianne La Havas, Hot Sardines just a novelty act, would have been ok on Britain's Got Talent, thought Paul Weller was the best thing on there, (couldn't stand his Style Council era) so I guess they're catering for all tastes then
7.
It's great to get confirmation from the guys that you're doing something right. Some bands do that, but some like several of mine never say a word.
when was the last time that any of us told a guitarist that they sounded amazing
8.
...you obviously didn't vote for greenburst then.
is that really greenburst? it's more like just green with black bits in it, looks really nice though
9.
Can I add a point of - Even worse than sunburst.... is sunburst with tortoiseshell pickguard? absolutely HATE tortoiseshell pickguards.....
yep, horrible, tortoiseshell on white looks really nice but that's about it
10. in the band I play in if somebody really hates a song they'll say "I'm not playing that" and it doesn't get played, simple
11.
Are they any good for metal?
good for punk ask the Real McKenzies. my GAS stopped when I finally took the plunge and bought a MIA P, and a Marshall MB4210, Oh hang on I've just sold that (got fed up with lugging it around)for a lightweight Fender Rumble, here we go again
12.
Being a lefty most times its only sunburst basses available, especially Fender, moan moan moan
the only cack handed MIA P Bass available when I bought mine (and still is AFAIA) is (thank God) black with a white scratch plate, would have preferred white but at least it wasn't sunburst. edit, just looked you can get sunburst as well for another £60, I wouldn't even be tempted if it was £60 cheaper
13.
Whoa... take those blinkers off!! Playing new and different stuff is a very good thing. Over the years I have played thousands of numbers that I wouldn't have normally listened to. That experience has enabled me to appreciate more music in general and many singers, songwriters and bands in particular. It's all been good, even if I never listened to that artist again. When most people join a band they're into a world of give-and-take, and as soon as that band starts gigging seriously they're into whole new level of compromises. If you are only prepared to play songs you like or listen to (which I'm assuming is the same thing), the only way I can see anyone doing that is to play on their own.
or get in a band with like minded players, which I am, for instance I have no interest in doing Level 42 covers
14. as a post script, I sold my combo and with the original box it weighed in at 37Kg, I used Parcel Monkey, and as Planer said they are just an online comparison site for other couriers, It got sent by DX and it arrived safe and sound in Wales a day later than the next day delivery stated, cost me £20 (including VAT and insurance) so a good result in the end
15. looking at some of the songs mentioned here, some of you guys must be in pretty strange covers bands. I don't think I could ever play in a function band, I'd have to play songs I wouldn't normally listen too, which is a good yardstick to use I reckon, we once played a wedding gig where we were asked to play stand by me, but at least it has a great bassline
16. I prefer using a little bit of distortion which acts as a compressor
17.
I've recently realised that the number of songs I hate and hate to play, massively outnumber the songs I like and am allowed to play. So now I just don't bother
guess you're in the wrong covers band then
18. We tried Alice for a while, didn't have the audience reaction we'd expected so dropped it, Nellie the Elephant still in there, which always goes down a storm, but as someone else said, if the audience like it, it's good enough for me
19. cheers Norris, that's great, just what I suspected bass is very low at 80Hz, thats bass drum territory, low mid is more like bass boost/cut
20.
I'll have a look at my manual tomorrow and let you know. I've got to dash out straight after work in my "weekend warrior" guise
ok cheers, I've been on the Fender site and the Rumble V3 series is not listed yet, as far as I can see
21. anybody know where I download a user manual? I'd like to know what frequencies the tone controls effect, the bass control seems very deep, turn that full up makes my speakers rattle and distort. I should add I've done a google search and got nowhere
22. bit early for me haven't decided if I need one yet, one thing confuses me, the Rumble 500 combo weighs 16kg, how come the same thing without the amp section weighs 20kg?
23. I used my rumble at a gig for the first time at the weekend, after a bit of fiddling with the tone controls it sounded good, one thing confused me though, I've been using Marshall MB4210 before with a Carlsbro Bass Beasty used as a 1 x 15 extension cab ( the amp section doesn't work anymore) to good effect, it increased volume and bottom end, but with the Rumble it had hardly any effect at all, maybe a touch more bottom end but no perceivable increase in volume, any ideas why this should be? I was thinking of getting a matching 2 x10 rumble cab for it, but now I'm not so sure. I did change the 15 inch speaker in the Beasty for an 8ohm one I had btw
24. I use something like these, cut them to shape and cover with lacquer to stop catching them with your thumb http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Luminescent-Glow-in-the-Dark-Vinyl-Light-Switch-Stickers-16-Pack-/131304609549?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e925d570d
25. I thought youtube had some sort of system that allowed copyright holders to to object with a blue mark (I think) a copyright violation, 3 'blue marks' and your account is suspended
