Something to do with facebook removing as bunch of fake accounts recently I think. Iirc it says something about it if you look at your stats page?
right I've found it, they've removed a load of likes from deactivated accounts, I always thought they were removed at the time the account was deactivated though, they certainly were when our drummer deactivated his, happened straight away
Maybe you had a bad gig...
oh we've had loads of bad gigs without this happening before lol

On my bands facebook page we suddenly lost 14 likes in one day, now I know some people cancel there likes for various reasons but to lose 14 in one day seems a bit much, we can't have upset that many people in one day surely, is it something to do with Facebook?

maybe Fender haven't got a clue how to get JJ's signature sound lol, there's been enough debate on here about it

I think it's been well documented that JJ's sound changed when his green P bass fell in half when he punched it during a gig, it never sounded the same after it was repaired, he said he tried hundreds of other basses and could never find one that sounded like it, although some people on here have got pretty close

So much fun with a little box! (drum machine)
PaulWarning replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
I use Hydrogen, you have to programme it yourself, but once you've figured it out it helps you understand what a drummer does, it's great for demos to show other members what you've got in mind and it's free, converts the drum pattern to wav form so you can load it into audacity or something like that, and record vocals /bass/ guitar and whatever else you want on to it -
I always know if the Excuse is "Oh I haven't had time" what they mean is I'd rather be doing something else, if you really want to do something you make the time
You are the only one registered with PRS, so you have no legal obligation to share. The money went on band expenses, so you have no moral obligation to share it. Yes, he will need to register with PRS and someone needs to fill in the forms if he wants any money. However, as far as PRS are concerned, you are the sole rights holder at the moment, and he can't just register and say he wants a cut - If that were the case, I could just write to them and say I'd like 50% of the Rolling Stones' rights please :-D This is why an agreed band split is vital. Everyone who gets a split needs to register individually and the PRS need to know the percentage split for each song.
ok thanks, at one time I did suggest we draw up some sort of agreement to split royalties, (we'd just made a CD and were all optimistic!) but no one seemed very keen on the idea so I didn't pursue it, To be fair to the guitarist he's not getting arsey about it, he just asked the question
-
Do you have an agreed band split? Who did that £24 get paid to? You? The way I read it, you have taken ownership of the PRS thing on behalf of the band (for that year at least) so as far as PRS are concerned you own all the rights to the songs. That is your money, and you are not obliged to share it. Was there a verbal arrangement where you would act on behalf of the band then share out the money? In which case you have a moral obligation to share it as agreed. Talk to the band about who wants to bother registering with PRS and filling in the forms. Agree a split among those people and then everyone who cares about the money will get a fair share.
I was the one who could be bothered to claim from the PRS, as it was only £24 I kept it to help with postage etc, wasn't worth splitting it TBH. So, if the guitarist wants his royalties he has to get them from the PRS and not us is that right?
-
Really don't understand this - should take ten minutes tops to fill out a PRS form. That's £144. What did you get for the gig? It's not as if there isn't plenty of downtime at a gig. Then again, if the guitarist hasn't registered then he doesn't have any right to suddenly start claiming direct from the band - tell him to take a hike!
£144? don't understand that, I got £24 for the whole years gigs, but I suppose that's my question, can he claim royalties direct from the band?
-
Why not fill the forms in? You may say it is a pittance, but how long does it take? If you don't claim it your share gets divided up by all those who can be bothered to fill the forms in.
I did it for one particular busy gigging year when we played the Bearded Theory festival (our biggest gig) and got £24, it really isn't worth my time TBH, I've told the guitarist and he's never even bothered registering with them
-
the drummer and guitarist are quitting the band I play, no fall out, after 10 years they just don't want to gig 2 or 3 times a month any more, anyway last night the guitarist asked me about royalties on his songs if we carry on playing them with the new members, I said he'd have to take his chances with the PRS system, but seeing as we don't bother filling out the annual form to tell them how often we play them because i's not worth it for the pittance you get he won't get anything, is this correct?
Jim Dunlop nylon (not tortex, too stiff I find) 1mm all the way for me for those I play pick on. Wish they came in other colours than black, easily lost!
^^^^ this, especially the colours comment, the times I've put it down on the top of my black amp and have to take my sunglasses off to find it

as I said in an earlier post, being a singer is mostly about confidence which is why most singers are self centred narcissists. Unfortunately that's what makes them good front men.
-
Get guitar or piano and start composing. Then find people who wants to play music and have fun doing it. IN MY OPINION Pub covers bands are waste of time.
Fixed, a lot of us enjoy playing in pub covers bands

learn to sing yourself, seriously, have lessons if need be, practice at home by recording yourself and singing through headphones, I improved my singing loads by just doing open mics, most of it is just confidence

Regular gigging and its effects on relationships
Yes. But the fact is, you wouldn't have been! The one thing people don't say on their death beds is, 'I wish I hadn't done so much shagging'. Well... unless you're Freddie Mercury, that is.
depends, shagging around usually involves upsetting someone else, most people with any degree of humanity regret that, I had chances to cheat on my ex, I never did and I don't regret it now, mind you I did at the time :-) -
A little off topic. Thing is, for me at least. At 62 I have lost the ability to know if a young woman is giving you the sign that she's interested. When I was a young guy my instincts were a lot sharper. Last weekend at a gig, I helped a young cocktail waitress ( 26 or 27 years old ) lift a case of wine. She made some comment like, "It looks like we work well together" Was I suppose to do something? Blue
I know what you mean, do they fancy you or are they patronising an old man lol, personally I have a rule, if she's younger that my eldest daughter that's too young, A younger woman was coming on to me once (well I think she was), trouble was I'd known her since she was a young girl, I would have felt like a paedophile -
The ultra heavy weight 77-78 precision and marshall Superbass with 4x12 are all thats required.
I was under the impression that JJ's green bass was a 1963 model, not familiar with a the Marshall superbass, I assume it's got a valve overdrive channel which I think was what JJ was doing with a 50 watt sound city guitar amp, anyway there's definitely some sort of distortion going on, not all in the fingers :-)
-
have seen a few bands where the bassist has used markbass gear, always sounded a bit dry for my taste, but that's fine for some styles of music, just not mine
-
thing to remember about JJ's tone is it needs to be high in the mix with a lot of space round it otherwise it just gets lost, because it doesn't punch through, I've tried it, but our guitarist has a gutsy distorted tone and it just didn't work

I packed the band when the kids came along, it's a very difficult time anyway, fast forward 20 years and I started the band up again just as my wife walked out, nothing to do with that but the kids grew up and all of a sudden we'd got nothing in common, I've now got a partner who loves coming to gigs, but 2 of the members have just announced they're leaving after 10 years and I suspect it's something to do with their partners. Basically I can't see how a relationship can survive unless the wife/partner supports what you're doing, especially when there's youngsters involved, she's at home looking after them while you're out having fun, no wonder resentment builds up -
Using an all valve guitar head for bass?
