1. trouble is 99% of musicians don't use them till the damage is done, I've a big hole around 3-4K Hz, as well as tinnitus in one ear, the audiologist reckoned it was the lower frequencies that do the damage I use the music safe ones, I've told our younger than me guitarist and singer to wear ear plugs before the damage occurs, do they listen, do they f**k
2. I do 1 or 2 open mics a week, but I take along my acoustic guitar and sing, I very rarely see a bass player, but there again I don't do Jam nights (which are totally different from open mics, IMO) they always seem to degenerate into an orgy of blues guitar playing, with the bass player doing endless 12 bar turnarounds, not my cup of tea at all.
3.
They are fabulous little things aren,t they. 6 squid off fleabag-bargain and a DI box as well
£6? somebody better tell this bloke, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BEHRINGER-BDI21-Bass-Amp-Modeler-Preamp-DI-Box-/181183164721?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a2f5bb131
4.
Not only did the singer come in early for the second verse in the recording studio, they left it in the finished version, which is still class
works thought doesn't it? I've always thought he meant to do it, In the band I play in we had a similar thing on a track we did, we did a long outro with the intention on fading it out, so we didn't know when to stop, after about 2 minutes the drummer decided to finish it by doing a out of time roll and crashes on the cymbals, sounded like a drum kit falling down the stairs it sound so good we left it in!
5. you do know you'll probably change your mind in a few months don't you?
6. just bought an acoustic guitar of ebay, UPS picked it up from the sellers place (Whitley Bay) on Monday at 12.15 it was delivered to me near Nottingham at 10am the next day and it was still in tune! So it's not all bad news on delivery companies
7. intonation on basses is well overated, or I could just be tone deaf :-)
8. does a right handed (I'm cack handed) encore I found leaning against a dustbin count?
9. sounds like you've been a bit of a pain in the arse to me, perhaps you're taking being Sting a bit too far, a well oiled crowd normally means a good gig, if song selection is right, most gigs are where drink is involved so occasionally a drunk goes over the top, learn to deal with it, it comes with the territory
10.
i know he uses a Shuker
he does now, back then he used, the now famous, hand painted green P bass that he broke in half and never quite managed to get 'that' tone again
11.
Gotta be most of the Bass lines by JJ Burnel on Rattus Norvegicus. Just how did he get that growl from his P bass and still retain the bottom end?
not so sure there was much bottom end, but it's certainly one of the most distinctive bass tones ever, just love it when it comes in on hanging around
12. first time we played a Sunday teatime gig about 5 years ago we'd never heard of them and we thought who's going to be there? but it went well and then it dawned on us, "what else is there to do on a Sunday teatime?". They have become a lot more popular in this area since then, it's got to be better than being dragged round the shops by the other half, any excuse to get out of that.
13. don't think it would be that difficult if you learnt like that, it's not like you're playing chords, once saw a Rolling Stones covers band and both guitarist were playing left handed with right handed guitars and they hadn't changed the strings round, they said they'd learnt like that and some chords were easier
14.
Tell you what guys, not knocking anyone who doesn`t want to do charity gigs, but when you`ve raised money for Great Ormond St Hospital, and actually go there with the items you`ve bought, and see the looks on the kids/nurses faces, well to say it makes you feel you`ve done something worthwhile is a real understatement.
Don't think anyone's got a problem with that at all, I'd do charity gigs if I knew it really was a charity gig, that was going to raise money, the problem is when pubs put on so called charity events that are an excuse to have a bumper bar takings day.
15.
So let me just check this . . . The punters are happy to donate to a charity The band is happy to play for nothing The landlord and greed brewery are happy to make their profit Nope, can't see the problem myself - everyone seems to be happy. Seems that YOU are the one with a problem with it, so why not just stay in bed until someone offers you some money to get up?
the problem is, the landlords are taking advantage of the charity for their own profit, it's no better than someone who goes round with a collecting tin then pockets 90% of the money for themselves
16.
Never a charity bar is there ? A little secret, charity nights are suggested as zero cost events to landlords by greedy breweries. The donations come from punters, the entertainment as in the band work for nothing, the bar till rings all night long.
My thoughts exactly, one of the most abused charities in this regard is help the heroes, a charity day with loads of bands with nothing in common except they'll play for free, most of them because they're crap and wouldn't get paid anyway, and completely disinterested punters who buy a few drinks, let their kids run wild then bugger off. Oh yeah, there's always the raffle where the pub has got a load of local business's to donate items for free, then brag they've donated £200 to the charity
17.
Really should wear the hearing aids more though.
I've just mentioned in another thread about hearing aids, just had my third trip to audiology and they're a lot better now, I forget I've got them in unless there's a lot of background noise http://basschat.co.uk/topic/224195-got-my-hearing-aid/page__pid__2536988#entry2536988
18. my tinitus, just in one ear, gets worse after a gig despite wearing ear plugs, dies down after a few days, but I enjoy the buzz (see what I did there) of a good live gig so I put up with it, but like you it puts me off listening to my HiFi, though in ear headphones seem ok but I have to take out my hearing aids lol
19. considering all the MOR pap that radio2 puts out I'm surprised anybody who likes guitar bassed (see what I did there?) music ever listens to it, I know they have specialist shows but most off the daytime out put is total dross, IMO of course
20. if we were all the same they'd be only one bass manufacturer selling one model of bass, I had a Stingray for a while, much prefer my P, just my opinion that's all.
21. have a f***ing great clock where the band can see it, then tell them they've got till certain time at which point the PA will be turned off, if they mess about getting started that's out of their time not the next bands diplomatically of course
22. we use one at most gigs, we don't tell them we've got one so unless they ask us and tell us not to use it we use it, the drummers OIC (officer in charge) of the smoke machine and he seems to make it a crusade to set off the pubs smoke alarm much to the amusement of the crowd, usually.
23. I've seen the 'English' Hermans Hermits a couple of times, a couple of original members I think, but no Peter Noone, a good evening none the less, and I've seen both Glitter Bands, they do all Gary's stuff and go down a storm
24.
Paranoid - i love black sabbath but that song is just crap but for some reason everyone loves it, soooo dull to play.
try doing the Dickies version twice as fast over in half the time and a lot more fun too
25.
Wow you guys! I've seen a fair few covers that i play in here, and I enjoy playing them all! These boots... its a great tune, although we rock it up a bit - and the guitarist and I exchange sneaked in Led Zeppelin riffs throughout. I never get bored of this song though, simply because the audience are always mad for it. For me though I don't imagine any bass lines are ever boring. Some are simple, yes - but that means I get to have a bit of a dance, relax, recover from hit me with your rhythm stick, look up from the fretboard, listen to the band, have a giggle at random madness in the audience - or on a particularly slow night have a chat with the guitarist. All in all, it's good to remember that whilst you might not like the song, or the line you're playing in it, you are doing something you love in front of people who generally appreciate what you're doing. If you're not, maybe you should go and do something less boring instead! My mum used to say to me "only boring people get bored"
Yep got to agree with you brensabre. The OP asked what was the worst bassline not the simplest, the one I dislike playing is No More Heroes, I love JJ's bass playing Hanging Around, Walk On by the list goes on, but for some reason that one just doesn't do it for me
