1.
you mean something like? Edit, nearly the same different position G |------------------------------------------------------ D |---------------------------------------------------- A |--7-7-----------8-8--------------- E |----------0575--------0575---33----0575----33-------------------------
having seen a film of Paul playing it I think that's probably the position he plays it in though I'm not sure about the open E and I think the triplet is BAB not ABA, and again 1F and 1G till the guitar solo, and in the slide up from B to E (which you don't show) he doesn't play another E till the solo, just the way I'm hearing it obviously
 2.
Pretty certain it stays high after the slide up. This is supposed to be the isolated track: and here's Paul with what you might call a roadworn bass: A friend of mine owns one of his paintings EDIT: Ahhh you mean the verse not the intro. Yep it's the way you're saying.
don't think that's the actual isolated track I'm pretty sure he doesn't play 2F's and 2G's till the guitar solo.
 3.
I'd imagined it as: G |------------------------------------------------------ D |--------------------10-------------------------------- A |--2-7--10-7-10------2-7--10-7-10--------------- E |-----------------------------------------8-------------
that's the intro/outro the verse is different, the bit that starts "London Calling to the faraway towns"
 4. been playing London Calling for ages now, but I never thought I'd quite nailed it, just had a good listen to the verse using audacity to move it up an octave and slow it down and I reckon it's G |------------------------------------------------------ D |-------------------3----------------------------------- A |--2slide7--202---- 202-------------------- E |-----------------------------3-------------------------- none of the tabs I've seen have it like this, anybody else play it like this?
 5.
Difficult, I've just had a look on their Facebook page and the Troyen thing is gathering momentum. They appear to have had their first rehearsal at the weekend, funny we had no gig weekend gone. God, I'm turning into an old woman. Right, work to do.
Most of the stuff on FB is lies and exaggeration, pinch of salt required, I went on FB after the 'other' band in my case had a gig and they'd posted 'that's the (name of pub) well and truly rocked' there were 8 people there, and that included the band members partners and friends
 6.
No prob Mr james sir. Although the current pub covers band is only weekend warrior stuff, I've just checked our NWB site and we currently have 28 confirmed gigs on the books for the rest of this year. Probably a few more than the originals band will end up getting. So, if a break is taken, that's a good number of cancelled gigs and once you start doing that up here, it can be hard to get back on the circuit. I am starting to feel very guilty about possibly dropping them in it. But I'm still narked
It's good idea to get an agreement between all band members that if one of you decides to leave you honour all the gigs you've agreed too, that way you don't let anybody down and sour future relations with venues. Make sure you're leaving because that's what you want and it's not just to spite the others, as I said earlier I've been in a very similar situation, and felt how you do, but I stuck it out and I'm glad I did, but trust and genuine friendship has gone forever I'm afraid, but we have some great gigs together
 7.
I think Karlifer's posts and the replies show exactly how people can seem hypocritical. We all view things from different perspectives. What is obvious to you isn't always obvious to anyone else. We all lead busy lives. Sometimes I can reply to an email straightaway on the iPhone, other times it needs a carefully considered reply or I need to get more information. Then I can easily forget to reply. It's not necesarily the lack of communication it's the way that the communication is carried out and followed up. Send out an email wait two or three days then either follow it up with another email if non urgent or phone call. Too much communication is also a bad thing because people then just start ignoring stuff or missing stuff.
It's hypocritical when people don't treat you how they expect you to treat them
 8. there's seems a common thread here, communication, I always try and reply to emails unless it's obvious one is not needed, after all it doesn't cost anything, our guitarist is terrible at replying, but if he occasionally sends one out and nobody replies straight away we get 'is my email not worthy of a reply then?' I just don't understand how people can be so hypocritical.
 9.
What are we calling 'Low' .....? I run my Basses at 2mm on the G to 2.5mm on the E (at the 17th).
well fender recommend 2.4mm for a standard precision at the 17th fret so that's about average, I always think there's far to much male posturing about string height, "my action is lower than yours nah nahnahnah nah" bit like measuring dick sizes among 12 year olds,
 10.
I think you need to start billing at £10 per hour for gigs from a min of £50. ( assuming a pub gig is 5 hours on the job but only about 3 hrs working it including set-up and break down ) No idea what bar staff get paid but ours is a more skilled job. You are doing well if you can get £25ph..assuming that you'll get there earlier and away later but we don't actually play any longer. Looking at it like this... I think the best we will this year do is £60 ph...
If you gig as a hobby, as most of us do I suspect, well I do anyway, the money is a bonus, compare it to playing football, if say Wayne Rooney was just a very average player he'd probably turn out on a Sunday morning for nothing because he enjoys doing it. If anybody is gigging just for the money, it's a job not a hobby,
 11. I play with a 1mm pick so I get fret rattle when I get carried away, but it doesn't seem to come through the amp, I'm at about 2.5mm on the 12 fret bottom E string, is that about average?
 12.
JOOI how many lefty bassplayers who play Golf play right-handed??
me
 13.
Not on bass, but on drums, I can see a very serious advantage for me: I play much better that way..! It also helps when having to decide on a shared stage whose kit to use. I use mine; end of story. I can share, by swapping floor tom and hi-hats, but most drummers would prefer to swap out the whole kit. I can't remember the last time I had to play on another kit than my own..! Downsides..? Yes, there are a few; mainly the limited choice of double bass drum pedals. I've even been lucky there, too, though, as our eldest plays drums lefty too (despite being 'normal' ), and bought a fine Pearl double lefty which I share. I do have others (a rare Camco and an ancient DW...), but had to scour the world to track them down. Just my tuppence-worth.
Funnily enough, I play a bit of drums and have no trouble playing right handed
 14. don't think I'll risking £250 on this one, as far as I know Fender don't make Mexican left handed P's http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FENDER-PRECISION-BASS-GUITAR-LEFT-HANDED-LEFTY-CUSTOMIZED-/151270278877?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item23386946dd
 15.
I still don't get massive amounts of attention with bright green DR strings... Incredible!
try the neon pink ones!
 16. Ok we're always hearing about how hard it is to get lefty basses, but are their any advantages? I can only think of two, makes the band look very symmetrical, assuming 1 right handed guitarist of course, and there's less chance of the singer being smashed round the ear with a headstock on a small stage, but I'm not sure whether that's an advantage or a disadvantage
 17.
I agree. I am horrified when I see that people are advertising their basses and amps as "ungigged". What on earth did they get it for then? Did they steal it from a shop window?
That's GAS for you, then find out you didn't need it at all
 18.
I've never had a problem with gig nerves in my life, I just absolutely hate gigging. I have absolutely no want, need or desire to provide entertainment for strangers, I hate all the hassle of loading in & out, I hate the hanging around for hours before playing & more than anything I hate the enforced pseudo-camaraderie that being in a band always entails. I love playing, writing & recording but gigging is, for me, just one big negative experience.
I didn't mean all people that don't gig have trouble with nerves, but some do
 19. depends on your personality ego driven extroverts like me love playing live to a crowd, but some people hate it, they can never conquer their nerves.
 20.
I think friendship, IMO, is part of being in a band. I've tried joining bands where everyone else already knows each other, and you kind of feel like the outsider. Whatever I do next, and get time for, it will be with like minded similar aged people. I know a lot of people might session or just play with whoever, but it isn't 'work' for me, so it HAS to be fun and part of a social part of my life.
In my limited experience, you generally start off as friends but the longer you're together the more likely it is to have fall out, doesn't mean you can't carry on just means you don't see each other outside the band. Depends what your definition of friends is I suppose
 21. this happened to me, the other 3 members of our band went of and joined up with another songwriter/ guitarist and bass player, our singer told me what was happening but not the other 2, I was really pissed off, very nearly quit, but stuck with it because when we were actually playing I was still enjoying it, but it's ruined any friendship we had
 22.
Maybe start a Left-handed thread in the eBay - Weird and wonderful subforum to post links to interesting lefty items on eBay, Gumtree and the likes?
Great if you're selling, not so good if you've got your eye on a bargain
 23.
Absolutely never. Nor any other footage of gigs on youtube, it is invariably unlistenable, unwatchable and not good.
and it's really annoying when it's you own band, someone at one of our gigs once said "I nearly didn't come tonight after checking you out on youtube, glad I did"
 24.
Look how exciting my life is! Are you jelous yet?
just like Facebook
 25.
It was bad enough when people used to wave their phones around in your face. Now it's hulking great pad things. Next time I go to a gig I'll try to take a big flat screen television in with me and spend all night staring at it at arms length.
What about those bloody flags at Glastonbury, how much do they pay for a ticket? stand in a muddy field behind some twat with a flag.
