1. Ok we're always hearing about how hard it is to get lefty basses, but are their any advantages? I can only think of two, makes the band look very symmetrical, assuming 1 right handed guitarist of course, and there's less chance of the singer being smashed round the ear with a headstock on a small stage, but I'm not sure whether that's an advantage or a disadvantage
 2.
I agree. I am horrified when I see that people are advertising their basses and amps as "ungigged". What on earth did they get it for then? Did they steal it from a shop window?
That's GAS for you, then find out you didn't need it at all
 3.
I've never had a problem with gig nerves in my life, I just absolutely hate gigging. I have absolutely no want, need or desire to provide entertainment for strangers, I hate all the hassle of loading in & out, I hate the hanging around for hours before playing & more than anything I hate the enforced pseudo-camaraderie that being in a band always entails. I love playing, writing & recording but gigging is, for me, just one big negative experience.
I didn't mean all people that don't gig have trouble with nerves, but some do
 4. depends on your personality ego driven extroverts like me love playing live to a crowd, but some people hate it, they can never conquer their nerves.
 5.
I think friendship, IMO, is part of being in a band. I've tried joining bands where everyone else already knows each other, and you kind of feel like the outsider. Whatever I do next, and get time for, it will be with like minded similar aged people. I know a lot of people might session or just play with whoever, but it isn't 'work' for me, so it HAS to be fun and part of a social part of my life.
In my limited experience, you generally start off as friends but the longer you're together the more likely it is to have fall out, doesn't mean you can't carry on just means you don't see each other outside the band. Depends what your definition of friends is I suppose
 6. this happened to me, the other 3 members of our band went of and joined up with another songwriter/ guitarist and bass player, our singer told me what was happening but not the other 2, I was really pissed off, very nearly quit, but stuck with it because when we were actually playing I was still enjoying it, but it's ruined any friendship we had
 7.
Maybe start a Left-handed thread in the eBay - Weird and wonderful subforum to post links to interesting lefty items on eBay, Gumtree and the likes?
Great if you're selling, not so good if you've got your eye on a bargain
 8.
Absolutely never. Nor any other footage of gigs on youtube, it is invariably unlistenable, unwatchable and not good.
and it's really annoying when it's you own band, someone at one of our gigs once said "I nearly didn't come tonight after checking you out on youtube, glad I did"
 9.
Look how exciting my life is! Are you jelous yet?
just like Facebook
 10.
It was bad enough when people used to wave their phones around in your face. Now it's hulking great pad things. Next time I go to a gig I'll try to take a big flat screen television in with me and spend all night staring at it at arms length.
What about those bloody flags at Glastonbury, how much do they pay for a ticket? stand in a muddy field behind some twat with a flag.
 11. I went to see Black Sabbath at the NEC a few years, hated it I I've avoided large venues ever since, Rock City in Nottingham is about as large as I'll go think it holds about 2000, and I hate sitting down completely ruins it for me. I'd rather go and see a good tribute in my local pub then watch the real thing in an aircraft hanger. Another thing how come the bigger the venue the higher the price, shouldn't it be the other way on?
 12. yep, looks like my Hondo
 13. go and check out the opposition, if they're crap it don't half cheer you up, and if they're good it might give you and idea or two
 14. £282 + £6 postage, I would say that's a bit of a bargain, if it'd been any colour but sunburst and a maple neck I might have been tempted myself
 15. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Left-handed-Jazz-Bass-Sunburst-779566bch-/251470301708?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item3a8ccc4a0c it's mexican, BIN price £369 not bad but not overly cheap I wouldn't have thought.
 16. that's happened to us too, hopefully it's somebody who's bought it and is selling it on (after ripping it to their hard drive), and not someone who we gave a promo too
 17. Stranglers with a low bass mix can't be good
 18.
The old goth band I was in were around in 1987...and no one needs to know we had a 25 year break to write new songs
My punk band reformed after a 25 years sabbatical nearly 10 years ago, still going, and now have the advantage of sort of knowing what we're doing and can afford semi decent gear
 19. I've always considered my self lucky, but then everybody thinks that I suppose, I was just getting interested in music when the Beatles issued Please Please Me, then I had Hendrix coming along, and finally when I was getting fed up and had stopped buying records Punk hit and restored my faith in Rock and Roll.
 20.
Sounds a bit operatic to me.
like I said
 21. I no longer have the HiFi bug, bit pointless now I've been diagnosed with industrial hearing loss I will say this though, crap music is crap music no matter how much the system costs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0fM3tChADY
 22.
http://www.amazon.co...93438937&sr=8-1
cheers, just ordered mine
 23.
I dont get jazz. At all. Im well aware im probably the minority. I do appreciate the musicianship, and skills that they obviously have. But its not for me. Dont enjoy it at all. Ill get my coat....
No, I think you're probably in the majority. I don't get opera either, what a racket
 24.
It helps if you were alive in the 60s.....if not I guess a lot of the Beatles may not resonate with you. I never understood George Formby.....
most people 'get' the music of their youth, although I always said it wouldn't happen to me most modern stuff leaves me cold, and if it doesn't I find myself saying "it sounds just like (insert old artists name here)" Never got Springsteen but love the Ramones (and the Beatles!)
 25. I do open mics about once a week, electro/acoustic guitar and singing, (no bass) they vary a lot, but they all have a basic PA (unless advertised differently) so like loads of others have said just your bass and a DI pedal, Oh, and tell the guy running it what time you've got to leave by if you don't want to play the graveyard shift
