1. and Fender don't make MIM P's although they produce lefty J's, very strange
2. there's always audacity, or http://kristal-audio-engine.en.softonic.com/ both free
3. you've not got a lot of control over your tone when going through a PA, it's what the sound engineer thinks you should sound like, although I do hear a some bass players with way too much low bass dialed in (imo of course) which results in either a boomy sound or one with no definition or both
4. our guitarist probably makes more then his share of mistakes, trouble is they stand out more (only having one guitar in the band) we've asked regulars to our gigs about it and comments vary from "what mistakes" to "it's live music what do you expect", mind you it is a punk band so nobody expects perfection, in fact they'd probably be disappointed if they got it
5. it was interesting that it was a bass, wonder if anybody on here carried out the threat to buy one of his guitars? edit, I really don't see why this thread should be locked as long as we keep it adult, stick to the facts and avoid juvenile name calling
6. what's clear is that even in the 'good times' these venues couldn't make a profit, these days they got no chance
7. sorry just seen a topic on the same thing, can I delete this one?

9.
The guitarists could also be a lot more "pro" about being ready for the next song too
We've sort of improved this be keeping the same 2 songs together in the set, then he knows what the next one is without looking at the set list, like we always follow London's Calling with Should I Stay or Should I go.
10. pater like everything else gets better with practice, but I agree with most posters on here no interaction with the crowd is not a good thing, but if you're not comfortable with it you tend to mumble which means nobody can understand what you're saying anyway, and yeah don't overdo it we occasionally have to pull our singer up on that one, like most singers he's a narcissist and thinks everybody is hanging on his every word
11. guys read the op's question 'to count me in when playing along with music that begins with the bass coming in immediately'
12. I see our hero has lost his 100% feedback
13. 11. Don't announce the name of every band member and let them do a little (hopefully) solo, nobody's interested, and if it's well known band they know the names anyway
14. I've used audacity for that, you can put a 4 beat click track at the beginning, it's a bit of a faff getting the speed right, but it does the job
15. I was using the minor pentotonic for years before I realised what it was, it just seemed to fit into everything I played, and it's easy to remember, up 2 frets down a string, up 2 frets etc
16.
Do they tell the part where Francis used to bring his Roller to Vicars Cross to see aunty Brenda . A lovely lady , who has been to see my band when we played my mate Petes 50th, so we played some quo in her honor . That must need a chapter all on its own
err, no sorry I don't recall that chapter
17.
"mids" to me is far too vague a term. Quite often we see "noooo, don't cut your mids" but without specifying a frequency or smaller frequency range than just "mids" it's a pointless remark.
As I said earlier round about 400hz
18.
Usually, what sounds good at home or in solo practice, sounds poor in a band context. Too much bass muddies up the mix, but too little makes the band sound weak (if you are playing on backline only)
^ this
19. if you haven't got wireless get a long lead and stand as far away from you combo as you can, it can sound totally different 20 feet away, if you want more bass don't turn up the bass conrol it could just get boomy and have no definition, boost the mids at about 400hz if you can
20.
I'm always a bit mystified as to why we play the way we do given that whatever handedness we are, in our case the left hand is the one with most dexterity, logic would dictate that would be the hand we use for the fingering of the fret board.
this has occurred to me, maybe the first time anybody picks up a guitar the first thing they do is strum the strings, not bothering about the fretting hand, so you do that with your favoured hand, just a thought, having said that there are examples of left handed people (Macca being one) being given a right handed guitar and not being able to play it till they flip it.
21.
I think the "new" line up that has being going (by my maths) longer than the old one is much better and I agree with Frank R. John Edwards is a better player than Alan Lancaster. thats not a revelation surely? when people, for example compare J Jamerson to Pino Palladinos version of his lines for example..... its just not the same, you don't need this explaining do you? different levels of virtuosity. James and Pino have an "understanding". Edwards and Lancaster...Edwards "understands " Lancaster.. it its very different. and its not just three notes (BTW)
I don't think Edwards understands Lancasters bass playing, Edwards is a different type of Bass player, he plays with his fingers to start with, it not a question of being technically better, Lancaster has a better feel for the style of music, I've listen to live versions of Quo songs, Edwards v Lancaster, and there's just seems to be something missing when Edwards is on bass.
22.
A friend of mine works at a venue Original Quo played in the north of England. This person says of Quo/A.L. ( no reason to doubt) that they sent out from the dressing room for "superglue to glue his Pick to his fingers as he couldn't hold it" and that Alan looked "Frail" sounds unlikely but they swear its true. Gaffer taped fingers pictures reminded me of this story and started to wonder ( just saying)
whether it's true or not he still managed to play ok, I see they're doing even more dates this year, yet another never to be repeated last chance to see the original line up lol, Rossi couldn't have thought it sounded that bad, perhaps he changed his mind when he heard the recording compared to the gutless stuff the new line up churn out
23.
Ta for the link. Your assessment is spot on.
no problem, glad you agree with me
24. thought I'd revive this thread after reading this http://www.classicrockmagazine.com/features/rossi-lets-do-the-frantic-four-again-and-see-if-we-can-do-it-better/ Rossi's saying that Edwards is a far better player than Lancaster, which technically he might be, but after listening to the Quo reunion recording they certainly (IMO) sound so much better with Lancaster on bass (and Coughlan on drums) than they do now, to put it bluntly, they rock with the old line up in a way they never do now. So, once again IMO, Rossi just doesn't get it
25.
The you have to give your audience something in the live performance that they can get sitting at home listening to your tracks that they have downloaded. Too many bands/musicians still think that standing on stage playing your songs is sufficient. It's not. If you can't entertain your audience you probably shouldn't be clogging up the venue.
Yep I agree with that, too many bands out there just stand there, playing, looking like they've just walked of a building site, no attempt to interact with the audience at all, bass players are probably the worst offenders too, I blame Bill Wyman
