1. wouldn't mind, how does it work? do you PM your address to the next person on the list? Trouble with a lot these rock bios is they concentrate too much on the drugs and sex and not enough on the songs and band relationships. Just read Rod Stewart's and at the end I just thought what a twat. edit, a very lucky twat
2. Macca plays drums right handed, this probably because Ringo, despite being left handed plays drums right handed, so it saved swapping the kit round, Coincidently, I play the Drums right handed, but am a lefty in almost every other way, it's just easier when using someone else's kit, and provided you haven't got a really weak right foot is not a problem
3.
I've heard that about Hendrix, and have the same issue myself, but I've not heard that about Sir Paul.
just found this From Rolling Stone issue 482, September 11, 1986 Kurt Loder: On a more trivial but similarly ancient note, a new biography of you claims that Paul McCartney, the world's most famous left-handed bassist, is actually right-handed. True? Paul McCartney: No, I'm quite definitely left-handed. and this www.theguardian.com/music/2010/feb/25/jimi-hendrix-ambidexterity-virtuosity
4.
part of the problem is that althought 13% of the population are lefty's I would say at least half of them learn right handed because right handed guitars are more readily available, a vicious circle I suppose I'm always a bit mystified as to why we play the way we do given that whatever handedness we are, in our case the left hand is the one with most dexterity, logic would dictate that would be the hand we use for the fingering of the fret board. Wonder if there's any right handed people that play left handed?
just read that Macca does everything else right handed, but couldn't play guitar till he switched it round, is this true? and am I a narcissist for quoting myself?
5.
My first was a Laney 100W 1x15 combo. Crap. Might has well have had a hamster farting in the corner for all the volume I got out of the useless piece of junk....
I use a Laney Session Bassman75 watt at band practice (with drummer)and rather like the sound I get out of it, perhaps it had a fault? knackered speaker perhaps? I had to replace mine at one point
6. they'll be exceptions but pick players generally have the bass lower, if I play sitting down for any length of time my wrist starts to ache, how low? see my avatar
7. you think that's bad, went to see Sham 69 once, no Jimmy Pursey, no announcement, we thought the replacement singer was a roadie, the other week Sham were advertised as being on in Derby, no Pursey or Parsons, just a couple of guitarist who played with them before they made it, I don't mind not seeing the original band as long as it's made perfectly clear on the promo material, if it's not it's a con
8.
I only really do two things now on my passive bass, full volume and full tone .......
Yep I've never understood this obsession with bass guitar controls, amps do it far better, and there's plenty of EQ pedals out there if that's your bag, I'd happily bypass the controls on my bass if they were playing up
9. the 2 things I use is audacity to slow things down and move things up an octave, really makes the bass line stand out and a program called digital music mentor. But I don't do bass solos btw
10. I sold a 3eq Ray and bought a MIA P, never regretted it, sits in the mix better
11. not many singers can manage it in G like Noddy, we're doing it this Christmas in D and we're doing the intro F Em D C A, so in G it would be Bb Am G F D, think thats right, doesn't sound much like the record though, on that there's no guitar just bass and harmonium, according to wiki anyway
12.
I don't see Nellie The Elephant as a cheesy song. It's just a fun song.
yep, you've convinced me, one man's cheesy is another man's classic is a another man's fun song
13.
we intend to finish with that on Saturday , the place bounces , it is really fun to play. We will play most except van morrison , proclaimers and beautiful south , the drummer just starts seething when the mention even crops up .
500 miles always goes down well Fa d da da
14.
Always goes down well and very easy to play....you wont regret playing it
once you've all figured out where all the stops are
15.
Last Saturday 'Swords of a 1000 men' went down a storm and I consider that to be a bit cheesy
We play that I'm always surprised how well it goes down, never thought it was that bigger hit
16.
ok, if we have already done that. I guess it is just one of those guitar things, and the fact that few people learn to learn instruments other than guitars without some kind of tuition.
maybe I'm being a bit thick here but I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at, unless you're saying people can't learn the unnatural way because they don't have lessons, I was chatting to a fellow lefty at an open mic the other week and he was saying he spent 2 years having lesson on guitar (playing right handed) and was getting nowhere, then the teacher noticed he wrote left handed so he started again playing as a lefty and never looked back. Left handed people may be able to write right handed but they probably will never be as good as if they'd learnt left handed.
17. it don't get cheesier than Nellie the Elephant, always our final song, but yeah there's a lot of snobbery going off when bands say 'we're not doing this or that because its too cheesy, a pissed up crowd on a Saturday night love to singalong to a cheesy/classic song (delete as applicable), and we are entertainers aren't we?
18.
Sorry, been away from the forums for a while. I've still got the combo and have been gigging it solidly every weekend for neary 6 months now. It's a great bit of kit, nice and solid and fits perfectly in my focus estate boot with everything else. I can also nearly do my car trip in one go as it's so light. Really happy with the tones I get from it and the portability, setup time etc makes me and my back very happy. The only issues I have had, and this is with digital power amps and neo speakers in general, is sometimes it does lack a bit of weight behind the sound projection. However, stick it in a corner of a pub for example to create a bass corner and you're fine. Also, if you have the ability to do so, D.I. it through the PA. So far though I have not had to D.I. yet just to be heard in the mix, and that includes playing outdoors, a huge hall at Cambridge University and a marquee inside an army gymnasium at the weekend. Also, my guitarist is very loud and it it'll happily go head to head with him. Most of the time I usually only need both the preamp and the master to 12 o'clock for a good gig volume. At some point I might think about buying the powered extension cab to kick it up to 1000 Watts, but not because I need the extra power. I think the combination of price, portability, flexibility and sound is just perfect and I've not even been thinking about another amp. If you were thinking about downsizing to a lighter or smaller setup I would seriously recommend trying one of these out. I'm sure there are better, more expensive alternatives, and if you can afford them great. But I'm very happy wth my little amp. Also, if anyone does decide to get a 2x12 combo and wants a Roqsolid cover for it, ask them to make sure it uses the customer submitted measurements. The stock one was too big so I gave them the proper dimensions to make mine and in black with black piping it's the perfect compliment to my 'Stealth Cube'. And if anyone has any questions please gimme a shout Alfie
Cheers, when my Marshall MB 4210 gives up the ghost, they never do when you want them too do they?, I'll get one of these, should be able to get rid of my sack trolley then
19.
I tried to learn guitar righty when I started an found it so uncomfortable and hard to learn, but then I switched to left and picked it up a lot quicker
Worms can of http://basschat.co.uk/topic/203555-why-do-we-play-right-or-left-handed/page__hl__left+handed__fromsearch__1 my own personnel theory, totally unscientific, is that some people are a lot more left handed than others, so some find it easy to play the 'wrong way round' to what feels natural, while others find it impossible
20. Fender don't do MIM p's or Squier CV's in cack handed versions either it's about time somebody passed an anti leftism law
21. oh yeah, we also do Anti Nowhere League's I Hate People, but change People for Christmas, bah humbug
22. fairytale in new york, don't you need a male and female singer for that?, to do it justice anyway. We're doing Slade this year, although I quite like doing Gary Glitter's another rock and roll christmas, at least you don't hear it a lot on the radio lol
23. I've a 75 watt 1 x 15 Laney combo that I leave at our practice place, sometimes I get asked to turn down, the drummers no animal though
24. I've got a lefty Wilson Rapier 6 string (guitar) it's not very good
