[/quote] last few times I've seen Macca on the tele his voice has sounded well dodgy, think its time he packed the live work in, same for Elton John and Sir Cliff, Tom Jones and Jagger still sound ok though and even Ray Davies just about pulled off the Olympics ceremony.

But at least I understand the clicking kick drum now, still seems bloody stupid though, but that's fashion for you, looking back everybody thinks "who thought that was a good idea" anybody remember the really loud snares in the 80's? went to a gig the other night and could hardly hear the snare for the tinny bass drum

just had a quick listen to Suade on teletext and once again as with the Led Zep reunion gig the bass had no definition due to it being eq'd to deep, (I was listening through my HiFi), why is this? my opinion is digital recording, because it has a wider frequency response than analogue the mixers are trying to get loads of bottom end because it initially sounds better (as with the loudness war) but it soon get wearing, older recordings had the bass with a lot more lower mids which meant that you could actually hear what the bass is doing, Led Zep II springs to mind. Oddly this is completely at odds with the modern fashion for having the bass drum with loads of treble dialed in. Any recording engineers on here to explain this or tell me I'm wrong?

Saw Reg and the Troggs a few times, always entertaining, proof that you don't need to be a great musician to make wonderful pop records, in fact imho it helps if you're not

[/quote] that's not quite the same thing, it's not that he's too busy its that he can't have his phone with him, if people can't be bothered, they more often than not say they're too busy, if you really want to do something you'll make the time, in my experience anyway

[/quote] when people use the excuse that they're too busy, whether it's answering texts or practising a new song, what they really mean is they'd rather be doing something else

it's just plain bad manners to ignore text and emails, one of our band members does it, then complains if people ignore his, unbelievable but true.

in defence of Carlsboro, I used a Beasty for quite a while, till the preamp packed in, decent combo, still use it as a 1x15 extension cab and a back up which I can use if I plug my fx pedal straight into the power amp

once bought a drum kit, the most difficult thing I found was dissociating my hi hat hand from my kick drum foot, ie, when playing quarters on my hi hat I couldn't play dum dumdum dum dumdum on the kick drum, got there in the end though, then got fed up and sold the kit, I found it boring playing drums, especially when not in a band

ebay is a conumdrum, we all know it's a rip off, but you get to the biggest market by selling through them so you will probably get a higher price. I refused to sell my Stingray through them, sold it on here for less but actually got a bit more for it when the fees were taken into consideration, which are nearly £100 on a £700 item

trouble with a full PA is you're relying on the sound man, and anybody that's tried to make out the bass line from a record knows not everybody likes to hear the bass, you can set the amp up as much as you want doesn't effect what's happening foh, really pisses me off, the other week I was watching a band at a venue we play at and asked the soundman if my bass cut through more than this one, he said "Don't you think it's loud enough?" he turned it up in the second half, sounded loads better

this kind of thing is ok for bands starting out, basically you're playing for nothing which I've done in the past just to get support slots to name bands. If you don't want to play for nothing don't do it, simple.

once read Marc Bolan always tuned up to the highest pitched string, so by the end of a recording session he was a long way out, if it's true he can't have done many overdubs

had a stingray, now I've got a MIA standard P, which I'm a lot happier with, I think it cuts through better and I prefer the tone, but it's all about personal preferences at the end of the day
