1.
I don`t think that many people are fussed about song-meanings anymore.
Don't think they ever were TBH, that's why there's so many song with rubbish lyrics
 2. well, we finished up playing GSTQ at last nights gig, and it went down pretty well, so either the pub was full of anti royalist patriots or they didn't really know or care what the song was about, I suspect the latter.
 3.
Bam. it's just a song, now. I doubt too many people will get hung up on it, at face value. The punk movement, which was the real cause for contention, is long gone.
I tend to agree, there's loads of songs where people get entirely the wrong idea about what it's about cause they don't really listen to the lyrics, I'm as guilty as anyone, it was years before I realised This is England was as unpatriotic as it is, and we've been accused of being a racist band on more than one occasion for playing White Riot
 4. if it's the should the pistols play GSTQ poll I've just seen it, not quite the same thing but close, the pub we're playing at sometimes lets us use his upstairs room for free to practice and we're back on Friday using the this room with TV Smith, perhaps we should just ask the landlord if we should play it, not very punk rock, huh.
 5. our guitarist wants to play it our singer doesn't, quite frankly I couldn't give a f*** either way, what does eveybody else think?
 6.
Saw Evan Dando solo about ten years ago and was unimpressed. His sound was poor and he totally failed to engage the audience.
He's not improved
 7.
My sister went to see him, her overriding impression was that he needs a good wash and a long stint in rehab. Mrs. Robinson wasn't on the album, so I can understand them not playing it.
It was on the later versions when it had been a hit, in fact that was the reason the album took off, it bought it to the attention of the public, and he did play other well known stuff not on the album like Outdoor Type, All My Life etc. Got to agree with your sister though about needing a wash, and he could have been on something, he certainly wasn't interested in the gig
 8. went to see the Lemonheads in Derby last night and have to say I was disapointed, no attempt by Dando to interact with the audience, just the occasional "thanks" and "this next song is", his vocals were muddy, no encore and no Mrs Robinson. What about the bass I hear you cry, well it was some sort of Jazz, wasn't near enough to see which type, sounded ok when he played a couple of notes on his own at the beginning to make sure it worked, a bit on the trebly side, good for Mrs Robinson if they'd played it, but it didn't cut through at all when the rest of the band were playing just a bit of thumping, which is surprising considering how jangly the guitar sound is. Anybody else seen them? was it just an off night?
 9. it's all about personnel taste really, I had a ray, now got a P and much prefer the tone of that over the ray, but that's just my opinion
 10.
Try then with a stiff pick for a week*, if you can't hear a difference then you ARE deaf *Warning, will result in a horrendous mess and needing new strings
guess I must be, I use a 1mm pick all the time, but they haven't shed their 'skin' this time, someone on here told me to be careful not to catch them on the bridge holes when putting them on as it damages the coating, works for me
 11. just put some new elixir nanowebs on after having the old ones on for a year, about 30 gigs and practices most weeks, and I can't tell any difference, either I'm even more deaf than I thought or they're very good value foe money, £27 off ebay
 12. I too would say a P is better for a power trio, not the other way round, I've had a Jazz, although it was a MIM one, I've now got a MIA P and I would say the P definatly helps fill out the sound of the band more than a Jazz.
 13. hey I've got one of these, was my first bass, got me started, bought it for £40 of a mate, still use it as a back up for my MIA P, it don't sound half bad either, good luck with the restoration, don't expect to make any money though, one of the reasons I've still got mine is it sounds far better than what's it worth, if that makes sense.
 14. I find it easier to remove the nut and use emery cloth to rub down the bottom of the nut, and if you go too far shim it with some paper/cardboard, someone will probably come on here now to tell me that's not how you do it, but it is safer, no fret board damge
 15. make sure you get the polarity right, I had one of those and fried it by getting it wrong, no protection against it as with some pedals
 16.
haha yeah he's the kinda guy that gets about a bit, I actually live on the same road as him. I'm with the James Warner Prophecies (as per sig ). I put John onto Paddy and Owen for your video. I've not seen you play in a while though, last time was a bit ago at the Greyhound.
Oh right, the video worked out pretty well, would have been even better if we'd have managed to play a bit better in the second half, and I'd have insisted on having the bass a little louder
 17.
Paul, are you the bassist in Verbal Warning? If so, I've known John a long time.
yep that's me, everyone seems to have known John for a long time What's your band, are you local?
 18. the purists might get a bit sniffy, but it is punk rock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKOcdCbWMQk
 19.
Me: "This one's in E Flat Minor" Guitarist: "You sure? I thought it was D Sharp"
That's not as bad as "shall we change this to E#" it really happened, although to be fair he did realise what he'd said straight away
 20.
GET OUT!!
marvellous, there's always room for a bit of abuse in punk rock, (it is the Toy Dolls version we do) and not taking yourself too seriously
 21.
I must confess that not only have I done it, I chose it. However this is the version we did... "And if I haiver whatever the f*ck that means", is my favourite alteration.
yeah that rocks, bit slower than we do it though
 22.
for give my ignorance but what does IBTL mean? nothing complimentry I presume
ok got it, not too bad, I was fearing worse
 23.
You were a member of They Must Be Russians and I claim my £5.00
for give my ignorance but what does IBTL mean? nothing complimentry I presume
 24.
I'm with you on this song, I bleeding hate it (you know how bad a bassline it has) its always 'wheeled out' to the drunken masses at the end of the nite. I have point blank refused to play despite being nagged by the rest of the band.
afraid I can't agree with you, maybe you're being a bit snobby?, 500 miles is a great simple singalong song to do as an encore, punked up of course, send the crowd home happy they'll come again, and lets face we all love a gig where we get an audience reaction, or should do. We do Nellie the Elephant as well
 25. latest word is they've sorted things out and it's staying open
