1. Elixer nanoweb, expensive but last ages, really smooth because of the coating, should cure your blister trouble
2. the only pedal I use is a Zoom 506II, I use it to add a touch of distortion all the time, it's got a built in tuner and I get a resonable over distorted sound for Ace of Spades, not everyones cup of tea but it floats my boat
3. anybody out there got the bass tab for the Stones version of I wanna Be Your Man, cheers
4. I just plug my bass into my computer mic in, headphones in the out socket then use the bass's volume control, use audacity to play the song you're learning so you can slow it down, it works and it's cheap
5. the way I do it is to plug my bass into my computer mic input, turn the volume down on your bass and plug headphones into you soundcard out socket, then use audacity to play the track through so I can slow it down alter the pitch that sort of thing, simple, and won't cost a thing, asuming you've got a computer
6. I was going to do a poll but it somehow didn't work out, I started on guitar but swiched when I realised there was a much better chance of getting in a band, glad I did, wouldn't switch back but it's useful for songwriting
7. prompted by the comment in the show "the worst guitarist finished up playing bass"
8. I'd be surprised if anybody pays £200 for it, even if it's a MIJ one with Dimarzio's fitted
9. I looked into this a while ago and while the shop would sell to me on the quite all the added extras made it not worthwhile
10. I use a zoom 506ii pedal plugged into my PC's mic socket with the output volume on the zoom turned right down then use audacity to slow down the song I'm learning, then headphones in my PC soundcard, sounds easy to balance out, works for me
11. sounds like a good day till the Jools Holland in concert bit
12. try downloading music mentor it's not perfect but it points you in the right direction
13. I know my hearing is crap, through headphones I could hear something at every stage except 20Hz?????? I'm 58 BTW
14. I emailed the UK supplier for Zoom and asked where I could get one from and they're sending me one FOC, it's always worth asking.
15.
Try maplins I'm near sure My MK1 had standard PCB mounted jacks. something like this Not 100% sure though I was fixing a switch!! so didn't pay much attention.
the pin configuration looks different but I'll take a look at Maplins thanks
16. anybody out there know whether it's possible to get replacement Jack sockets for my much loved Zoom 506II effects pedal?
17.
THanks James but SG1 is because my bass is a Gibson SG I tried the MB4210 with my band this evening and it was ok, still not as loud as some may say (IMHO) but the room we play in has a very high ceiling and is a very large classroom so the accoustics dont help, maybe in a pub or club with low ceiling will be good . I am a bit annoyed with the company I got it from, their advert for this amp is nothing short of blatant misleading, it states `sends booming signals thudding through the chest of anyone within a 200 yard radius` it is utter rubbish as my guitarist was about 10 foot away and his chest is fine LOL, maybe when combined with the extension cab is loud but the 2x10 certainly is not that loud, however, I think the tones from this amp are very good . You get what you pay for and I like the sound of this amp but am a bit concerned about the potential lack of headroom for larger venues, I can get a refund but will have to pay the postage to send it back, also I dont have any more cash to buy a more powerful amp at the moment so looks like I will keep it for a while . How much extra headroom would I get if I changed the speakers for some higher quality ones ?
I use mine with a 1 x 15 extention cab at gigs, it does make quiet a difference and adds some more bottom end
18. I've got one of these and they are serously loud, you've either got a problem with your bass or the shop has sent you the same one back again, ask your guitarist to play through it se how loud it is then, oh make sure the compressor is off
19.
haha yeah i know what you mean, i saw skindred last week and this is what they do. It has a pretty good effect although i think it can get a bit weird if you have 2 guitar players and a bass and one of them is a lefty. Sorry.
never thought the Beatles looked weird, apart from them collarless jackets
20. I'm a left who plays lefty, there has been occasions when looking for basses I wished I'd learnt right handed, but us lefty's have a big advantage when playing gigs on a small stage, it don't half make extra room if both guitars have the neck facing outwards, especially if there's a singer prancing about in the middle, and it looks better more symmetrical Hercule Poirot would know what I mean
21.
hey Leftys'. Would anybody be up for trading? My MIM Jazz for a similar Precision??
do they make MIM lefty precisions?
22. anyway, back to your original question, why don't you put it on ebay 99p start and see what happens, what have you got to lose? you might get £50, and let us all know what happens
23.
TBH I'd be surprised if any of them were any good. I came across a bunch of Hondo P basses over the years and none of them were any better than Encore P basses (if anyone here's got an Encore precision they absolutely love then I am sorry!). Even if it is a surprisingly good bass, the name will keep the price way down.
I've got an 1981 professional II that I'm fond of, made in Japan, with Dimarzio's, made at the same factory as Tokai's I believe, but I may be wrong, again
24. not worth a lot, they'd switched production to Korea by then, the earlier Jap ones are quite good with Dimarzio p/ups fitted, there's a wikipedia page all about them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hondo_(guitar_company)
25. I play in a drums/guitar/bass punk /covers band, have tried various p copy's a MIM jazz and a stingray, as soon as I got a MIA P it took the sound of the band to a new level, it just fills the sound out better than all the others
