Tried listening to The Stranglers today....
PaulWarning replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
I can't believe he couldn't get closer to his original bass sound if he wanted too, I can't get his original sound but I can get closer than he does these days, just listened to a live version of Hanging Around from the 'Feel It Live' album, my favourite bass sound on any record from Norvegicus, and it's a travesty -

as I mentioned earlier, they've got their own sound guy, so to a large extent they get the sound they want, I know different venues have their own characteristics but a decent sound man should be able to cope. I once went to a festival about 15 years ago and the sound was awful all weekend, all thump thump bass drum, the Ruts came on and their sound was spot on, Segs Jennings' bass sounded awesome, I even messaged him about it and he confirmed they had their own sound guy -
What really impacts on your bass tone?
PaulWarning replied to KingPrawn's topic in General Discussion
I do wonder how many of these changes would be noticeable in a live band situation. I always remeber asking my partner what my bass sounded like after I played a gig with a different Bass, amp and speakers, "it sounded like a bass" she replied 😂 -

they use there own PA guy, so no excuse really, a guy I was with asked how he got the JJ bass sound, he said it's not as hard as you think, then proceeded not to get it 😆. Like @Velarian said the early bass sound had all but disapeared after the Black and White album, my favourite explanation is that the green P bass he was using broke in half (or probably 2/3rds, 1/3rd), he had if repaired but it was never the same again, I saw a quote somewhere where's he played hundreds of P's since but never found one that sounded the same -

Another band with the same name?
PaulWarning replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
songs from another band with our name suddenly appeared on our Spotify page, I filled out a form and sent it off, credit where it's due, they soon sorted it out edit, I think we were the originals, we started out in 1980 -

When is Politics Not Politics?
PaulWarning replied to Chienmortbb's question in Site Issues and Questions
the moment Brexit gets mentioned it's gets political, and some folk can't get political without getting abusive, if you want to discuss politics (or Brexit) I suggest you head over to Fretboard's Politics and Economics thread -

from what is being said on here you need to be careful about the cab you pair with the ELf https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=10171642807440227&set=gm.10161191512266247&idorvanity=9747906246 -
Noel is usually good value in interviews

the Beatles had great songwriters, that's the difference, if you're going to compare todays successful artists with those of yesterday year Elvis would be nearer the mark

Ossie and Tony played at the closing ceremony of the Birmingham Commonwealth games, Ossie sounded good but some thought he was miming

some obscure stuff isn't on Spotify but it's usually to be found on Youtube, would I prefer people to buy my bands music in a physical format? absolutely, but unfortunately most people stream there music these days, the Genie is out of the bottle, and it's making recording new music uneconomic for small bands like us

It does depend on the driver, the one that usually delivers to my house is very reliable and friendly, I've sent stuff via EVRi as well as the the drop off shop is just round the corner from me, never had any problems

we've got a similar set up, Yamaha EMX 512 power amp with Wharfdale titans we use just for vocals and maybe bass drum, done a few outdoor gigs, exactly the same setup outdoors as indoors, works fine.

I sort of get all that, my point being is there any point in faffing around with stereo for IEM, a lot of effort, and money, for negligible improvement, as long as you can hear yourself and what's going on with the rest of the band, it's job done
