about 2 months ago, a bad connection on the output socket, I always take a spare everything, the band looks really bad if they cant complete the gig. I've seen this twice, once a bassist's string broke and he took about 10 minutes putting another one on while the rest of the band stood around looking really uncomfortable, a multi band bill as well so they'd only got 40 minutes anyway, and he refused to use someone else's bass! 😕 Another time one of the guitarists broke a string and unbelievably for a guitarist, didn't have a spare, again took about 10 minutes to put a new sting on, it looks really really bad

I know a band that's been going for years and the singer/guitarist always used a music stand with a light on it, and because it's there he looks at it all the time, when I started doing open mics I used one but then discovered if it's there I'll look at it so I learnt the words. Unless it's a dep I take a very dim view of a singer that can't be bothered to learn the lyrics, it just makes them look amateurish

not wishing to sound like a smart arse, as some on here seem to take great delight in, do you mean Walk of Life? yes it can get tedious after prolonged exposure

Tried listening to The Stranglers today....

they had keyboards, some long songs and odd arrangements, I can see why people thought they had prog rock influence's, but the lyrics were very punk -
Too old to rock’n’roll… Who decides?
PaulWarning replied to Mickeyboro's topic in General Discussion
I'm into my 70's, I suppose I'll keep going until I don't want to do it anymore or my health won't let me, when I started playing again nearly 20 years ago after a long hiatus if someone had said I'd still be playing 40 two hour gigs a year now I'd have said they were mad, luckily I don't have any health problems, at the moment -
What is the minimum power needed for a Pub Band?
PaulWarning replied to thebrig's topic in PA set up and use
we've got a built in compressor on our Yamaha EMX 512, whenever I try and use it I get feedback issues, but then I'm not sure what I'm doing, it is loud enough for vocals and bass drum anyway -

I've done that with my Trace Elliot, it's loads louder now 😂 -
we've got a gig coming up that is iffy attendance wise, it was decided that if it's poorly attended this time we won't play it again, we do practice new songs, to keep things fresh for us and the crowd, otherwise there would be no point in practice nights, which involves going to the pub afterwards, most get dropped after a few outings when they don't go down too well, you don't say whether you have band rehearsals. The band is run very much on a consensus basis, but if someone really doesn't want to do something we don't do it, thankfully nobody uses their veto very often, well not since our last guitarist left 😄.

being a bit of a libertarian I've decided this is my position, if people are silly enough to pay the price that's their look out, personal responsibility and all that. If the massive demand is caused be touts buying hundreds of tickets by manipulating the online ticketing system hopefully they'll get their fingers burnt
-
I hate Stadium gigs, I'd rather go and see a decent Oasis tribute in a small venue, why is it that the bigger the venue the bigger the ticket price?
-
it's about time that added on fees that cannot be avoided are banned, why they can't be just incorporated into the ticket price? it's bonkers, I can't think any other example that this is the case, even Ryan Air extras can be avoided, with difficulty

Quite a lot bands are in the right place at the right time and many have a hit or two, but it does take a special talent to stay at the top for years and produce a string of top selling songs
-
I'm the opposite now, wouldn't cross the road to see big bands in massive stadiums, I'd rather go and watch a good tribute in a small venue. Back to Oasis, wonder how many who slag off their songs as simplistic have written a million selling song of their own, if it's that easy why not? not many know the secret of writing a hit song, Noel Gallagher is, or was, one of them, it is something that is indefinable.

we bought the cheapest ones we could find about 18 years and well over 700 gigs and ago they've had a few repairs over the years, replacing nut's and bolts that have fell out and got lost, but they're still going strong, we may have got lucky
-
as a way of getting your music out there, yes, as a revenue raiser, no. Trouble is CD sales have fallen off a cliff in recent years, most people stream these days, for small bands the chances of getting back recording and production costs have severely diminished. We don't make a lot through merch but most of it is T shirt sales.
-
it's just filtered through to our Soundrop statement, we've got over 6000 streams for our most popular song, but that counts for nothing now because that's over a period of years. How do you get on popular playlists? edit, just found a blog on how to get on playlists
-
apparently songs now have to have a least a 1000 Spotify streams in the last 12 months to qualify for any payment, so small artists like ourselves will go from getting a pittance to getting nothing.

Hearing loss/ ear protection on live gigs?
PaulWarning replied to Tradfusion's topic in General Discussion
the problem I've got is I wear hearing aids, taking them out makes things muffled, use ear plugs and it's even worse, I have to take them out to understand what people are saying to me, I tried the ACS's but it was a pain getting them in and out, I just use generic ones now, wedge the one next to the drummer right in and adjust the other one as required, at least my tinnitus hasn't got any worse -
I'm not surprised, all they asked was a simple question, talk about making life difficult 🙂
-
funnily enough, I was messing around with the 30 Hz slider on my Trace Elliot GP12 today, couldn't tell any difference whether it was right down or half way, so I left it right down

Always amuses me, kettle's don't have kettle leads these days 😀 Am I going to get an apostrophe alert?

3 amp would be safe enough
