  1. surprised that you're not getting playlisting or airplay, I last saw you at at last years Bearded Theory, you had a decent crowd, I guess the fact I see you get on at smaller festivals has skewed my judgement, just looked at your plays on Spotify, and yes they're not that great. You do do a lot of gigs around the country which is good for album sales, Verbal Warning have been stained by doing mostly covers gigs locally, we struggle to get any originals gigs these days, one comment for a local promoter when we asked about a support slot for a punk gig (999) he was putting on "Why would people pay to see you when they can see you for free in the local pub?" There are some local originals bands around but they struggle to get any gigs at all, a conundrum for sure
  2. I suspect we're talking about bands that are a lot less successful than Headsticks 😊
  3. We're thinking about releasing an EP of 4 new songs, our singer is keen because he's an avid collector, we may sell a few at gigs and if we keep costs down may get our money back but I can't remember the last time I bought an album, I listen to most of my music via my phone these days, usually bluetoothed in the car. Most people I know don't buy physical albums any more, they use streaming services, which is really bad news for small artists but it's the way it is, I can't really complain because that's what I do.
  4. as a resident of Nottingham I feel duty bound to say that Robin Hood is more likely to be true than Nessie, or blowing speakers by turning an amp up to distortion levels by the 'sounds' of it. But hiding in the Major Oak or robbing from the rich to give to the poor probably as big a myth as the other two
  5. aren't you more likely to damage a speaker by using and underpowered amp then running it at full power? asking for a friend
  6. they'll be more knowledgeable people than me along soon, but wattage is not a good way to know how loud something will go, I did used a Trace Elf 1 x 8 combo once, and that wasn't loud enough, but others have said the Elf's are with the right cab
  7. we did a gig last night and during the Kids Are Alright our singer came in too early at one point, our drummer was not amused when I told he was sacked 🤣
  8. I also remember him saying it was nice to play with a 'normal' drummer when Moon had died, most band members think they'd sound better if some things were changed, till they are 😄
  9. There does seem to be more to it than his drumming, just wonder why they didn't use "the musical differences", or "Zak's moving on to other projects" excuse, of course back in the day a young Roger Daltrey would have just thumped him
  10. those were my thoughts as well,he's been with them for years and now Mr Daltrey has decided he's not their cup of tea, very strange
  11. https://www.goldradio.com/news/music/the-who-zak-starkey-fired-why/?fbclid=IwY2xjawJss61leHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHqRA1Wpq53mnBU0-fGaGFyJKZF-jRtlyTqoG-jL-UUVBfjqeSczuZek3675a_aem_8t9vj7cvM8wjssT9OhvDVA according to this story Roger Daltry instigated it because all he could hear was boob boom boom, seeing as they use in ears surely it's the sound man they should be getting rid of
  12. had any luck with these settings? sounded bloody awful when I tried it, way too much distortion
  13. must have been faulty or a really inefficient cab, I got a 150 watt GP12 loads of volume and we've got a really really loud drummer edit, my Trace lost all it's volume, needed new output transistors
  14. you really have got to be some kind of nut job to point a gun at the Police in the USA, if the reports are accurate of course
  15. that is about what I've got my B1on set at which I don't think is a million miles away, most people do add too much treble when trying to get his sound
  16. not good news for the BBC at all, bit of a contradiction, TV audience falling but commercial radio rising, I'd have thought Gen Z would be using Spotify etc, but then, what do I know?
  17. never happy when I see an artist using backing tracks, I just think why stop at drums/keyboards/bass or whatever, why not have the whole thing as a backing track? but hey, that's just me ymmv
  18. I never realised there was no bass on WITJ, foundthis clip where Phil is playing rhythm, presumably they only had on guitarist at the time also found this which is one of those vids where you think "Wish I'd been there"
  19. didn't TOTP's make the artist do a recording of the song earlier to mime too? I know the stories about some managers swapped that tape for the actual studio recorded one, maybe the Stranglers didn't
  20. fair point, mobile mics won't pick up the very low frequencies so may filter out the 'gut churning rumble', but the footage I've posted from Gilfest looks to be professionally recorded so presumably came from the mixing desk, which I suppose means it could have been mixed this way afterwards
  21. could be but not when you're standing next to the sound desk
  22. I find it strange, you would think The Stranglers would have their own soundman, yet when I've seen them the bass is nowhere near that high in the mix, and it should be
  23. I think I've finally found a early live version, just audio, starts just before the 39 minute mark, It doesn't sound a lot different from his modern sound as in the last post
  24. and this is interesting, JJ's modern bass sound
  25. no it isn't but this is, or maybe not on reflection, shouldn't alway believe what's on youtube
