When Do You Think Your Band Will Start Gigging Again ?
PaulWarning replied to Bluewine's topic in General Discussion
hopefully pubs will be opening June July time with restricted numbers which means we should be ok 🙂, but I can't see any of the summer festivals happening, but if they decide to let sporting events happen (Football) they can't really stop big gigs, festivals happening, as with everything depends how far the deaths and new infections fall so who knows? -
Recording with wireless latency issues
PaulWarning replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
actually I've just another test using a microphone (play the click track through the speaker and record it, when I used the wireless unit this happened, first is the click track, second one is the mic connect directly and the third one is with the wireless unit in the loop -
Recording with wireless latency issues
PaulWarning replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
cheers guys for your input, I've dug down a bit, ASIO drivers will not work with Audacity without jumping through a lot of hoops, I've done various latency checks and adjusted Audacity accordingly (it was about 50 milliseconds out), strangely there was no noticeable difference between wireless and cable, must have just been the way I was playing 😂. I'm not looking for perfection it's only a demo of a new song to give the rest of the band something to go on -
Recording with wireless latency issues
PaulWarning replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
Can't remember, I just downloaded one off the internet, in fact I thought that was the name of the driver, it says MME in the audacity window. But as I've said I've only ever noticed latency when using the Boss wireless system, it seems fine otherwise -
Have I been hacked? What do I do?
PaulWarning replied to Steve Browning's topic in General Discussion
wish I would get one of these, I could ask him how he got my webcam working, I've been trying for hours without any success. -

no, just bog standard Audacity, I do any tweaking after I've recorded it -
Recording with wireless latency issues
PaulWarning replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
yes it sounded ok when I was doing the recording, but when I played it back it just sounded a bit out, thought it was my crap playing to start with but as soon as I switched to a lead it was fine, I recorded the guitar track as well with the Boss, that didn't sound spot on either but I use a lot of distortion so it was hardly noticeable. I'm recording using Audacity and my laptop with a cheap USB soundcard, maybe it's too much digital stuff in the signal chain -
always been a bit sceptical about noticing latency, just putting the bass track down on a demo using my Boss WL20 wireless unit, I thought bloody hell my timings a bit out, then changed to a normal lead and everything was fine, well for me anyway. Anybody else noticed this?
-
I remember a thread from a while ago (sorry can't remember their names), someone asked a well known Jazz bassist how he chooses what notes to play, his reply was "Just play the root of the chord to start with then any old bollocks after that" 😂 probably not much help to you, but in my experience if it sounds ok it is ok

How to record a band video in lockdown
PaulWarning replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
so were miming? -
the band have been asked to provide a 20 minute recording ( or even doing it live) of a few of our songs while in lockdown, the extent of my knowledge is this field is a 3 way whatsapp conversation. Any pearls of wisdom anybody?

Brian Helicopter (Gareth Holder) of the early punk band The Shapes, great Ric sound, of course it's to do with how high in the mix it is as well, bit like JJ in the Stranglers was higher in the mix than normal, which is why it's noticed, not that it's not a great bass sound anyway
-
mine was a Hondo too, I could flip it to a lefty without it being too obvious, could be a Matsumoto, still got it, a bit battered but I only paid £40 for it, I still reckon I can get nearer to the JJ Burnell sound than with my 'proper' precision.

Any inexpensive aggressive sounding P pickups around?
PaulWarning replied to shoulderpet's topic in Accessories and Misc
the finish is a bit iffy, the frets stick out a bit on the underside near the dusty end on mine for instance,, but as I said, they sound very very close to a 'proper' P bass, a great back up, in fact I'd consider selling my MIA Fender if I ever needed some cash -

MY Vintage V4 has Wilkinson pickups as stock, tbh there's hardly any difference in the sound between that and my MIA standard -
Free or inexpensive PC or android practice / recording
PaulWarning replied to CliveT's topic in Accessories and Misc
I use audacity, plug my bass into the mic socket with a 6.3mm socket to mini jack lead, I also use a Behringer BDI 21 to improve the sound but it's not essential, cost is next to nothing -
having moved over to DR neons a few years ago it is noticeable that there is string wear where the frets are, so it may be that new strings have to 'bed in'
-
trouble is we were booked up for the year, so got no spare dates to do the gigs we've had to cancel, I would think most busy bands are in the same boat, plus the good venues will be booked up for the year anyway
-
I've now got a 64gb card in my phone, loads of room, there's not much solo Beatle stuff I'd want on there tbh, imo the sum of the parts is far exceeded by the greater whole, which is true of a lot of bands
-
Quite, when in the Beatles he'd got Lennon and George Martin to do that job, but, and I'm only surmising here, he surrounds himself with yes men who are on the payroll, well they're not going to turn round and say "That's rubbish Paul" are they? I remember an interview with him after the 'Give my regards to Broad St' calamity, where he said "I can see it's not very good now, but why didn't somebody tell me at the time?"
-
yep, but who's going to tell him? he won't, as far as I know, even lower the key so he can hit the high notes, the blokes in denial
-
judging by the recent Macca and Ringo performance on the last leg of Paul's US tour he has the best voice of any living Beatle 😀
-
no word from @blue yet? thought he'd be all over this 😀

not keen on all you need is love tbh, the trouble with that album is it wasn't really an album originally but 2 EP's, it was made into an album by putting on previously released singles
