  1. used a Carlsbro Bass Beasty for a few years, till the preamp blew up, no complaints
  2. cheap option, I find works for me is the Zoom B1on, don't know about the newer B1 4 but would imagine it does a similar job
  3. it was getting messy by this stage
  4. Definitely, never hear bass on modern TV speakers, they want you to spend extra on sound bars, I listen through headphones, never a problem with the sound
  5. still enjoy gigging but not as enthusiastic as I used to be, we're cutting back a bit, or trying too, we were supposed to last year but still finished up doing 58, don't like doing more than 1 a week, but being retired with no health issues what else would I do? and the buzz you get from good one like NYE's makes it worthwhile As someone else said, if I wasn't gigging (or in a band) I wouldn't play bass, can't see the point
  6. and me, PC, windows 10, Chrome
  7. the drummer does seem to be the only original member on occasions, except Spinal Tap obviously, no offence to drummers but they're not usually the part of the band that defines it
  8. cheers guys, think I'll will try boosting the mids next time I use it, one of those situations where you can't really tell until doing a gig
  9. it did got back to Ashdown a few months ago to repair a fault on the valve drive, I'm assuming any fault would have been spotted then
  10. 4 ohm, I use two Fender V2 cabs, no shape engaged and valve switched off
  11. Used my Ashdown at the weekend, I had it on 3/4 volume, 3 o clock, (gain on full) and it wasn't cutting thought that well, at half time I changed to my Trace 200 watt series 5, gain on full, volume on 2 out of 10 and boom, instant cut though. Are Trace amps really that much louder, is it a different type of volume control (i.e the Trace is on full at a lot lower setting), or is there something wrong with my Ashdown?
  12. not a big fan of Country, in spite, or maybe because, of my ex dragging me off to line dances, (might be why she's my ex) but I'm enjoying the series, usually when I've come in from the pub after a few pints, sort of puts me in the mood for music documentaries. A while ago I started a topic about whether people actually listen to lyrics, I don't usually, but it is important in Country, let's face it a lot of the melody lines sound the same, it's some of the sublime lyrics that make it listenable
  13. collection only, wonder why it 'only' weighs 52Kg! 😣
  14. that's ok some Trace expert will no doubt put me right, is it a UK built one?
  15. wonder what year that is, looks a later model then the SMX with the Ashdown type harmonic emphasis and the valve drive
  16. I would say you're disengaging the pre shape if it's seeming to raise mid frequencies Here's what pre shapes do on a SMX preamp Pre-Shape 1:+6dB at 50Hz and 2kHz, -6dB at 400Hz. Pre-Shape 2: +5dB at 100Hz, +3dB at 3kHz and -5dB at 650Hz.
  17. same with ear plugs, when you're young you feel indestructible
  18. wheels help, but you've still got to get it into a vehicle and up steps and stairs at venues, Trace 4 x 10 combo? rather you than me.
  19. Blitzkrieg Bop, dead easy and a message of intent for a punk (mostly for pub gigs) covers band
  20. where did you see the Let It Be film?
  21. I would suggest until you have exactly the same strings on both basses they are going to sound different
  22. 51 minutes ago, PaulWarning said: it's not about viewing anybody as enemies and it's got nothing to do with gender Fake news, I never said that, how did that happen?
  23. socialising can be fun when you find out you've got something in common to chat about, hard work when you haven't, unless, like our singer, he has no problem at all, he just talks about himself 😀
